I didn't think it would happen this year but it looks like we are going to be heading to the Fort in November. :yay::yay::yay::yay:

We will be taking our little dog with us. This will be the longest trip we have taken with a pup since our yellow lab had car sickness issues and we did shorter trips with her. Are there any tips/advice you can give me for the trip down and while we are at the Fort? It is about a 12 hour drive for us.

I figure we will go to the park for a little while in the morning, go back to the rv for a while, then maybe go to a park in the afternoon for a bit then come back and spend time at the campground with our pup. Or maybe spend an afternoon and go out at night for a bit. Don't want to leave him for too long of a time.

First, congrats on your up coming trip, :woohoo:

No suggestions from me,, it sounds like ya'll hava pretty idea on schedule time for your fur baby and yourselves. Thats pretty much what we do when we hit parks.

You may try Anti-stress tabs. We get ours at Wal-mart for my one dog that freaks out when thunder storms comes throw. I have to say they work great Rudy thanks us for them

We have two Yorkies that go with us and we have a hall between the living area and the bedroom ... see pic below. What we do is put them in the hall with one of the spring loaded child gates at each end and then turn on the radio to a talk station for noise/static.

I hate MH campers that let their dogs run loose and leave a vent/window cracked in the front where the dog sits on the dash and barks at anything and everything and destroys any solace that might be available outside.

Thanks Frank!

I will keep that in mind. He does really well camping and traveling in the vehicle. Hopefully he won't freak out. He is pretty laid back.

Thanks Larry. I think he will still be using his kennel and we always leave music going for him and we run our fan on the ac unit for the noise.

Bailey (in my avatar) told me to remind you to remember it's your pups vacation also. ;)

We camp all the time with my two dogs they love it just keep the radio on

Be sure to visit the dog park, it helps burn off energy, bring a ball or frisbee.

Bailey's all time favorite thing to do is to walk along the canals and woods to hunt for blue tail lizards and squirrels.:thumbsup2 And we do that A LOT at the Fort. She also REALLY likes buggy riding. (yeah yeah, I know, dogs aren't allowed on buggies.) (she isn't a dog).

Rudy is with Bailey he loves his cart rides. The dog park is a must. Remember it their vacation too so just let them have fun

Great!

We always leave music going. He seems to be good about not barking. He will be a year old August 20.

He loves to play ball. We have never done a dog park before. There are none in our area. I know there were many times that we rode by there that the place was empty. He is our first little guy so I am just a nervous mommy about him being around too many other dogs at once. Although most of the time I worry about bad owners. Some dogs shouldn't be in there. I remember hearing about a dog being attacked once and the owner did nothing.

Seal would love that. He will also be riding around in the cart. He loves that and the Fort is the best place for it. I saw plenty of people riding them around. I agree with you, he isn't a dog anyway. He is a person who just happens to have fur and four leggs.

I think we will all have a great time! I hope he loves it.

Just curious when you guys go camping do your dogs not sleep quite as well as they do at home? Our yellow lab didn't and Seal doesn't either.

Seal LOVES to go camping and LOVES walking so I think he will have fun. Lots of new things to explore!

Bailey sleeps like a log in the camper, doesn't even get up for a drink during the night.

Seal usually sleeps good at night it is the naps during the day that seem to be not as good. Of course he is so nosey and has to see what is going on all the time so that could be part of it. :rotfl:

I am really looking forward to taking him to the Fort. :)

I know what you mean Frank. Nothing like sleep while camping. Knowing you don't have to get up and go to work the next day helps too!

So glad to see other pooch lovers! We are taking our little lady down with us in Oct. We have another camper parked at the beach that we visit about monthly so she's very used to the camper life. I am taking a fan to turn on for her to have some white noise while we are out and about. She only barks when someone tries to pet her (crazy alpha dog) even though she's harmless. So I also plan to take lots of training treats to hush her :)

I had an alpha female dog once...140 lbs of 75% timber wolf. Best animal I have ever had, and I've had some good ones over the years.

Understand the lines between where your "rules" intrude on hers, and visa versa...and avoid the conflicts between those lines. Alphas are complex animals.

I miss Lady...

Oh my she was absolutely beautiful!!!

People always freak when she barks but I try to talk to them quickly so they know she is ALL mouth and just letting them know "hey this is my Mom and YOU don't mess with her!" LOL! She is a great companion though. My best little fur buddy :)
