...and I'm a scaredy-cat!

I haven't been to the dentist in ages - I've been putting it off and off because a while back a teeny little bit of one of my back teeth which already has a filling in it broke off, which means I know the nasty needle and I know the nasty drill will be coming my way :(

I made my appointment today and admitted I was a chicken - the receptionist asked me if I just wanted to come in and get my tooth fixed or whether I wanted a full check-up. I said I wanted to get everything possible done in the one visit because I might be too scared to come back a 2nd time!!!

So I've been booked in with the 'sympathetic with nervous patients' dentist for a great big session so I can get x-rayed, checked, cleaned (and drilled) all in the one sitting.

Think of me at 1pm :( :( :(

:( :( :( :( :( Penny

I hope it goes OK for you (I won't say well!) but that it is over with as quickly as possible :)

Big hugs and loads of pixie dust Penny, I too hate the dentist :( Hoping all goes well for you.

I'm a big baby when it comes to the dentist myself. Do they offer you guys "gas" at the dentist over there? I can't remember its "official" name, but it's perfectly safe and it really calms me down. I take my MP3 player and breath in the gas, it moderately sedates you and gives you a bit of buzz.

Good luck penny i know there not as scary as they used to be:Pinkbounc

I was at the dentist on Monday ~ Big drill and even bigger needle but at least that is me for another 6 months. :teeth:

Sending lots of positive thoughts for you.

Well I survived!!!

Good news and bad news though. The good news is that today wasn't as bad as I thought it would be (thinking about something is so often worse than the actual doing! Bobby and his assistant Chloe were really, really kind to me too) - can't make up my mind if I hated the drill or all the scraping from taking out the old filling more. I also had another tiny filling done as well which was in the next tooth so that worked out a treat as he was able to do both at the same time. Very convenient, hehehe.

But...the bad news is the x-ray showed a shadow underneath an old filling. I remember when I had this one done (maybe 10 years or so ago now) because it was a really deep one and I didn't like it being done one bit. Looks like because the dentist was 'cautious' the last time with his drilling he didn't quite get it all the decay out and slowly but surely it has been coming back - he hopes it should be fine but warned me that there was a small possibility that it might need a root canal if it goes too deep.

So, back I go next Wednesday to have it fixed :(

Aside from that nasty little surprise, he said my mouth was in good shape :)

Root Canal :earseek:

I hope you get away without it.

Well done for being brave :)

Alan.

I'm a big scaredy cat when it comes to dentists - and it's so hard not to let the kids see hoe scared I am, in case they think that there is something to worry about at the dentist.

You are so brave Penny - I hate the dentist too and am such a scaredy cat, in fact I'm even worse now as I have to take Bryn & Carys and I worry myself sick for them too!!

Glad it all sort of went ok for you and fingers crossed that the words root canal work won't be necessary.

Astrid  xx

Pen, I had a fear of the dentist, bordering on phobia, for years. Whilst I still wouldn't put it at the top of my 'favourite things to do' list, I now have a wonderful, professional (albeit totally barking) dentist. I had root canal surgery a couple of months ago and it was a doddle. Modern dentistry is totally different to that you'd have experienced 10 years ago. I promise you won't feel a thing.

I'm guessing you're feeling pretty smug tonight, huh? I know I was when I eventually plucked up the courage to go after years of putting it off.
