Hi,

I have plans to go to MK on a day that they are taping the parade. Do you think the park will be crowded because of the taping?

Do you think it is a good idea to take the train from Main Street to Tomorrowland first thing upon arrival at 9am (Space Mountain and rest of Tomorrowland is first on our list)?

Thanks! :thumbsup2

Saying that MK will be crowded on those days would be a huge understatement. Taking the train would definitely be a good approach. By all means, stay away from the parade route and main street!

We found that Main Street was crowded, but no where else. Everyone was waching the parade, so we did as we pleased in the park.

First weekend in Dec, Friday and Saturday, Sunday if needed. Main Street and Hub are the only 'zoo'. The train would be great.

Yes, the park will be very crowded that day. Its a good day to go to a different park if you can. Main St will be all but impassible, and the rest of the park will be pretty bad as well. Keep in mind that taping goes on for a long time as they position each unit and do multiple takes of each shot.

Back in 2003 we were staying at the Poly when the parade was being taped. We arrived at the Poly @11pm and were exhausted. The cm checking us in "hinted" that the xmas parade would be taped the following morning in MK. He also said it would be open earlier than the listed. I went down for coffee at @7:30 am while everyone snoozed and I could hear the parade going on in the MK. I really wanted to try and go , but I knew the kids wouldn't be able to get up. It was the first Sat of Dec.

Thanks so far for the replies. We are planning Sunday from opening until about 3:00 to do Torrowland, Toontown and Advetureland.

How long does it take to tape the parade?

We reconfigured our entire schedule to avoid the parade taping at MK.

Here is a little pixie dust for you (in the hope that the crowds won't be too bad) :tink:

I beg to differ with some previous posters on this thread, but anywhere along the parade route is ridiculously crowded on these days. Not to mention that you aren't allowed to cross anywhere along the route when taping is in progress, so it can be pretty tough to get around short of using the train. Also, after taping ends, all of those parade attendees invade all sections of the park. Luckily, however, since they don't have a 'true' ticket, they cannot utilize fastpass, and only occupy the standby lines.

The amount of time it takes to tape can differ, but here is my personal experience: We had an engagement ADR at CRT at 6:15, and taping was still going on that day (Sat, Dec 3rd) until around 5:45.

We were there for the taping of the Xmas parade in 2004 and it was crowded, we tried to get to Tomorrowland but it was very busy there too, so we just turned around and went to an other park, where it was a lot less crowded... Good luck...

We were there on Sat. of taping for the last two years. We don't tend to hang out along Main Street, but I have to say I didn't notice it was that bad. We always do Pirates/Adventureland first and then move to Splash and Fantasyland....we didn't have any problems leaving around 2 o'clock either.
I guess if you can avoid it maybe you should...but if you need to be there I would just plan accordingly and have fun. :thumbsup2
