Or would Labor Day be a better day....but than again....i think I would rather be at HH on Labor Day???

TIA for your help!

We love Savannah. Of course, you've got to walk along the riverwalk and maybe take a trolley tour. We usually eat at Paula's restaurant and another place on riverwalk.

We love Savannah as well. The riverwalk is awesome with unique shops and CANDY SHOPS!! We are especially crazy about a restaurant called the Oyster Bar which is on River Street. They have hushpuppies that taste like cake and they give you honey butter to dip them in. Yum Yum!!:thumbsup2 It makes me hungry just thinking about them!

Were you planning on driving to Savannah? You might want to consider taking the boat just for the fun of it. I don't have specific information but you could probably google it.

If you drive, be sure you have a map with good directions. Depending on traffic expect an hour to 1.5 hours each way.

In Savannah, definitely take one of the horse drawn trolleys. That'll give you a good sampling of the historic 'old' Savannah.

Pretty much all the action is along the river, shops and restaruants.

Have a great trip.

The Pirates House is a restaurant that is one of the oldest in the Nation. The original room was a Tavern that the Pirates came to. The restaurant is built around it. If you should eat there, ask them to show you the original room, floors a little uneven, glass is old and I think there is a old fireplace in it, but it has been a while since we were there. It has been built onto through the years. It is close to the Riverfront, which is a must. We did a dinner cruise on the Savannah River once...it was delicious.

Our favorite places to eat in Savannah are Mrs. Wilkes Boarding House and the Shrimp Factory. If you eat at the Shrimp Factory, try there fish stew it is delicious. As far as Mrs. Wilkes goes - they only do lunch. You have to go early and be prepared to stand in line. But the food is absolutely delicious, just like my grandmother used to cook. We've never eaten at Paula's place.

We took a boat cruise from the Lighthouse to Savannah in Sept. 06. It was good fun, except for the rain storm on the way back. We had to stop in "protected" waters for a while.

The boat docks at the Riverfront area. We took a trolley tour - I think there is a discount for boat riders. We ate at the Pirates House, good buffet lunch and then had plenty of time to stroll around the streets and shop. Don't forget to go into the candy shops. One of them had several kinds of turtle-type candy, can't think of what they called them, but I do remember they were yummmy!

Enjoy your trip. HH is very relaxing and peaceful.

We were there in December and did a day trip to Savannah 2 times. It was great. We ate at a Oyster Bar on River Street. Fantastic and we also ate at the Lady and Sons (Paula Deen's Restaurant). We did the Sunday Buffet there and it was great too. We did not eat at the Pirate house, but we did a haunted tour of Savannah and it ended in the basement of the Pirate's House. The food looked and smelled fantastic. There are lots of places on River Street. Have a Good Trip:goodvibes

We have gone to Savannah from HH as a day trip several times. There are many excellent restaurants and the original downtown area is easily walkable. All the hotels and shops in the area have maps. There are excellent trolley tours and also horsedrawn carriage tours for reasonable prices. The trolley tours are hop-on, hop-off so you can get off at any stop and reboard a later trolley. If you drive from HH to Savannah, ask the front desk of the resort for directions to Savannah via the backroads----easy, shorter and much less traffic. Ample parking lots all over downtown Savannah. The Riverfront area is a must. We have also taken the boat from Harbortown for a day trip to Savannah and that's a great way to get there.

How long is the drive from WDW to Savannah. I've always wanted to visit, but my husband will only agree to staying in Orlando, not HH.
Thanks, Deb

Have a great trip.

We had a Savannah/HHI trip over Thanksgiving and it was wonderful!

The trip from Savannah to Hilton Head and vice versa was not bad and only took about 40-50 minutes if that. It was a very nice drive. The roads are 2 lane, but we didn't have much traffic and the greenery was very nice with trees hanging over the roads.

You take U.S. 17 over the big bridge in Savannah, get on SR 170 until you get to US278, and take US278 into Hilton Head.

In Savannah, we enjoyed the river area very much, but also enjoyed the rest of the historic district. The Trolley tour was very helpful in giving you a lay of the land. We really enjoyed Forsythe Park and all of the beautiful squares especially Chippewa square, where they filmed Forrest Gump!

We stayed at a beautiful Hampton Inn in Savannah before heading to Hilton Head. There are 2 Hampton Inn's in the Historic District. We stayed at the one on MLK Jr., and it was sooo nice, and couldn't be beat for $95. The other one is much deeper in the middle of the historic district, but we were very close to the Vistors Center and the tour operators.

Our trip consisted of: 2 days in Savannah, beach combing, a dolphin tour, and hanging out at the HHI resort. We got a kick out of playing pool in Big Murgie's Den and other resort activities like storytelling from B'lou Crabbe, and just enjoying the beauty of the low country/marsh.

Make sure to get a free sample of Pralines on River Street. We went to the Chart House to eat, and it was very good but expensive.

If we had it to do over again, we would have spent more time at the beach house, but the trip was absolutely amazing!

I live in Savannah (my whole life) so feel free to write and ask me any questions.

Lots of good info here. If you come at the right time of day and not rush hour, expect only about a 45 min drive. Definitely visit the Savannah Candy Kitchen, they are the best but there is more than one place to get fudge, divinity, and pralines on River Street and in City Market just south of there (walking distance) so make sure to go to the right place. Unless you have a party of 10 I believe, you won't be able to make a ressie at Lady and Son's so go early. There are many good places to eat on the river though so don't worry about that, especially if you love seafood, but Paula's i sawesome, I ate there Wednesday night before Thanksgiving (Thanksgiving Eve??)

You can PM me or contact me through my site below if you have anything specific and I'll try to answer.
