We are staying at the GF - our first time staying at a MK resort. Would it make any sense to walk to the Contemporary after Wishes and get on the monorail there? I know the crowds waiting for the monorail at MK are brutal at park closing. Thanks

I would take the boat, should be direct when leaving MK.

This is absolutely true.
However that same little shuttle boat also carries guests headed for the Poly, and the lines waiting can be backed up.
(They usually run two boats on the same route, but they don't carry a lot of guests, each.)

Like most plans at WDW, timing is everything.

As Robo says it all depends on the date and how long after Wished it takes you to get to the boat. The wait for that boat at that time for us has been from 0 to 90 minutes. If you want to leave right after and not wait, watch Wishes from the south end of Main St. and be ready to head straight to the boat on the last note.

Yes, crowds are brutal exiting MK after Wishes. I agree with illinidp in regard to a good location for exiting quickly. If you are further in the park, you may just want to hang out for 10 - 15 minutes while the crowds clear. When you get out, I would just check to see which line is shorter, boat or monorail. Honestly, by the time you walk to CR and get to the 4th floor for the monorail, you might as well have waited at MK.

Walked out of wishes Saturday night, looked at the monorail line, and walked on the boat. Was at the GF in just a minute. Per the castmembers working tge boats, they can carry 39 people, but usually 35 or 36. So do a quick count before you stand in line

We have headed to GF after Wishes for ADRs. The monorail line always seems so backed up so we usually head to the boat. We have watched MSEP and Wishes from the MSUSA train station and head right out of the park after Wishes. We have usually gotten on the first or second boat over to GF (if Wishes was at 9, we've been in the GF lobby at around 9:30-9:40, usually have a 9:50 ADR).
