Going to Disney in Dec, what's it like? Too hectic or enjoyable?

My family and I are thinking of going to Disney the first week of Dec 2006 (staying at the WL). I have always wanted to go to WDW in Dec to see the Christmas decorations, but I am concerned since that is such a hectic time of year it might take away some of the "Disney magic" or make our holiday season crazy since we would be away for a whole week during the holiday season.
Our kids are still young (they will be 5 and 3 at that time) so if we wanted to see the Christmas decorations, I was thinking that it might be better to take them sooner (Dec 2006) rather than later when they are older and involved in lots of other activites during the holiday season making it harder to go away.

We usually go the second week in Feb when we are all stir crazy from being locked away all winter (we live in MA). So we appriciate Disney sooo much by then. I'm afraid that by going in Dec we won't get as much out of our trip???!! It might sort of get lost in the shuffle of the busy holiday season.
Any thoughts from people who have traveled in Dec??? Positive or negative expierences??

We go every December, 13 to the 22nd this year. Crowds are low until the weekend before xmas, then it starts to pick up. Some people will warn you about Pop Warner but we have never had a problem with them. They are usally there the first full week of demcember and staying at WL you shouldn't see any of them. The decerations are great and make sure you go to MVMCP, the kids will love it.
As far as weather it can really vary, we have gone when it has been in the 80's during the day or even the 60's. Either way its shorts during the day for me and pants at night.

We went to Disney World last year December 1-7. I must say it was our best trip ever. One night at Epcot the parking lot looked like a ghost town. I have no idea if it will be the same this year. I hope so because we are going back December 3-10 this year. You get to see all the decorations and wonderful Christmas celebrations without the crowds. :cheer2: Christmas around the world at Epcot is super as well as educational :teacher: for our 3 daughters. Hope this info helps.

We love WDW at Xmas. I agree that the crowds don't really start picking up until the week of Xmas. There's so much to see and do. When the crowds get heavy, we enjoy the slower things we normally wouldn't do like watching the entertainers. Going to see a movie or shopping at Downtown Disney. Mickey's Very Merry Xmas Party and the Holidays around the World Showcase make it the best place to spend the holidays.
