I'm a long time visitor to Orlando, usually travelling with Virgin.

This time however, due to a complicated story I wont bother you with, we've had to book our next trip with Thomson. We fly into Sanford on August 31st.

Has anyone flown with them to Sanford ? I believe the Thomson airline was formerly Britannia ? I used to use Britannia a lot to Europe and always had good flights but the Florida run is a bit longer as we all know ! We've upgraded to the Premium (?) seats so hopefully that will make it all more bearable anyway.

This is also the first time I'll have flown into Sanford. Is it easy enough to find your way around/out/to the highway ? How long is the drive to Orlando approximately ? :confused3

Lastly, we're staying at the Bahama Bay Resort on West US 192. I know the 192 area well but this is our first stay at Baham Bay. It has great reviews on TripAdvisor.com, but I'm just wondering if any of you guys know it ?

Thanks !

I've flown Brittania long haul on a few occassions and they are pretty much bog standard. not a lot of leg room and drop down tvs that only showed a couple of films, these were awkward as my DS couldn't see them unless he stood on his seat! As you've upgraded I'd definately say it was worth the money and you'll find it ok. Other than that I'd say it was pretty much on a par with what you'd expect from any charter aircraft for a long haul flight.
also I found Sanford a lot better than MCO, only about 20 minutes total to get completely through from aircraft to outside! it was a longer transfer, about an hour and a half but as we went by bus rather than car that could account for a lot of that!

Cant help with the flight details but we almost chose this resort ourselves (eventually settled on a villa). Like you say all the reviews are great so I am sure it will be good! :thumbsup2

Ditto here - arriving at Sanford is much easier than MCO. It's all so much more compact and straightforward than MCO that we prefer it, despite the longer onward journey to WDW. On the return leg, Sanford is also fine, although there's obviously much less in the way of shopping / entertainment than at MCO if you should be delayed.

Think Luton airport vs Heathrow and you'll get an idea of the difference :)

We've flown Britannia (Thomson) a few times, and now always upgrade with them. We don't find a huge difference in service, etc, between them (upgraded), Virgin and BA (economy). The fact that, at some times of the year, we can use them from a local airport and not have to face the Gatwick trip swings in their favour for us :thumbsup2

Hi,

We stayed at Bahama Bay last year and loved it- is there anything in particular you'd like to know about it?

Have also flown with Britannia a few times and have found them to be fine- not luxurious but as the others have said, they're what you'd expect for the price.

Sanford is great, much more relaxed than MCO...can't say how long it took to get to Bahama Bay, sorry, was too excited to notice on the way there and got stuck in traffic jam on way back!

Bahama Bay is on 27 not 192 about 1.5 miles south of the junction at the bottom of Florence Villa Grove Road .Best way from Sanford is 417 ,Osceola and Sherberth Road to 192 and then onto BB.Depending on what time you arrive it capuld take from 45 - 60 mins to get there. If you want detailed directions pm me .

dad stayed at bahama bay last may and he said it was fabulous :thumbsup2
The only downside was the journey back to the parks. He was lead to believe it was a 10 min drive to disney but in reality was more like 30 in the morning traffic.Think travel agents base their timing on mo traffic and green lights all the way!! :rotfl:

they only thing that bothered or I should say really annoyed me about Thomson was that last year they changed our flight to another carrier. Now I know that can happen to anyone at anytime but it turns out the actually don't fly out of Glasgow to Sanford. We have a DS and all our special need requests and even our prepaid seating went out the window and all the MY Travel bookings took priority. We did fly with them 12 years ago and they were fine and that is our only complaint.
