Going through security question

I am going to WDW in March with my sister. We are coming from two different states, but want to connect in Baltimore. The times of the connections don't coincide, so my question is this. If I fly to BWI earlier in the day as a direct flight, then take a second flight later in the day and haven't left the airport, do I need to go through security again? I will only have a carry-on bag. I will be flying Southwest. Hope someone can answer this for me!! Thanks.

As long as you do not walk outside of the security check point area.

In the security area there is a designated line on the floor and a security guard posted there. If you cross over that line you will have to go back through security. This is the same line you will cross over when you reach your desination and you are walking out of the area where the gates are located.

Will you be checking luggage? If you are, you'll have to go to baggage claim after that first flight. That is in the non-secure area, and hence, you would have to go through security again.

If you are NOT checking luggage, and have carry-on ONLY, then you are fine, as long as you don't cross over into the non-secure area.

If the flights are really "connecting" flights (as in, you booked it that way), but have a LONG TIME between flights, then the airline still is in control of your luggage, and you'll be ok as long as you stay in the secure area.

but if they are flying the same airline for both legs of the journey, you do not need to go and retrieve your luggage. The airline will transfer it to the next flight. She's flying SW, why would she pick up luggage to turn around and check it again with them??? That makes no sense.

She would need to collect it if the two legs are booked as separate tickets.

HOWEVER, it's a moot point, because in the OP...
I will only have a carry-on bag.
