Going sans bag

That's what sparkle skirts are for :)

I know I keep looking at them but my cheap little self can't bring my credit card to spend $50 on a skirt. I'd have to have at least 4 for a trip and most likely wouldn't wear them to work so that's a big outlay for a couple of trips a year. They have that inside pocket which looks deep enough but the thought of pulling up my skirt to get to a pocket offends my old south roots. I know they are shorts under there but what can I say, I don't wear white after labor day either.

LOL.. That price was a choker, till I put on my first pair. I turned around and bought more. Now I have about 10. Yep, 10. That way, I have 1 for each day on our long trips. And I got over the worries about pulling up the skirt real fast. They are just so awesome. But I wear them at home too, anytime I'd wear a skirt or shorts, I'll wear them. The longer version is perfectly acceptable at work, it goes to my knee.

The pocket is low on the skirt so you don't have to hike it up much at all.

Beside what others have shared, I take a small ziplock bag that I can put my phone and other things in if I get caught in a downpour or go on a water ride.

I am a Sparkle Skirt Junkie…I won't even TELL you how many I have!!! As you said, the longer version (aka "Hiker") is great for work & church; I wear them all the time. I get the Swing version for running. And as you said, you can control the amount of hiking up the material, so you never have to feel immodest or indecent.

What I also like about them is the wicking material, so I don't feel like a soggy, sweaty mess when I visit the parks in July. And they're very easy to rinse out in the sink and dry by the next day. :)

In my cargo pants I carry a small video cam and extra battery, wallet or money clip, cell phone and a stick form of sunscreen, that's it. Wifey totes less than that but insists on bringing a bag which means that while I can stroll in we get held up by her.

We leave for WDW in 31 days and for the first time will be touring the parks without a bag. My "kids" and now 16 and older so the days of diapers and juice boxes are behind us. Last trip we still carried a backpack but it always seemed to be in the way. So this year we've made the decision - it goes in our pocket or it doesn't go. Im hoping this makes touring easier and should get us thru bag check faster. Any tips for what I should carry in my pockets? I'm thinking my phone, wallet, sun screen, and possible a small charger for the phone?
You'll LOVE it!

Expect in summer was always need water. We only stay hydrated if we carry bottled water, but bottles fit in men's cargo shorts. Label with a sharpie if you prefer.

We try to thin the wallet to the bare minimum in the parks: med card, ID, $, cc's, mini WDW cheat sheet (important times like ADR's, FP's, park hours).

for sunscreen, we apply before we leave the room, then bring a chapstick-style stick, or tiny tube. Just what we need, like a 1 ounce bottle.

We use our phone to store images of useful information, like where we parked and some receipts.

We don't bring a charger, but you might.

DO bring a plastic poncho if it will rain, which is just about every day in summer. Not light rain, downpours! (but often just short bursts) Cheap ponchos, still in their bag, fit easily in a pocket. We don't take them out at the first drop, just sustained rain.

DO bring EMERGENCY meds if you need any! ( or any OTC meds you are likely to desire) You CAN obtain them in the parks, but it is a pain.

A useful tool for tiny extras is something called a 'snack size' or "portion control" sized ziplock bag. Both = abut a 1/4 of a sandwich bag. Snack size =zipper on a long edge, portion control bags just = short edge zipper.

If you get blisters, you might consider a tiny emergency kit: band aid and moleskin.

So you can get away with a spibelt without going through bag check? That's scary!

I had the belt under my shirt and wore it through the metal detectors since I was selected on more than half of our park days. Really, no different than using shorts/pants pockets or wearing a sparkle skirt to carry things. I only use it to carry cards - ID, insurance, AP, TiW, & one CC - and a small amount of cash, and the only reason I prefer the belt is because my pockets don't zip and I don't want to lose my stuff. As @goofy4tink mentioned, one could carry a small weapon in it - but one could also carry a small weapon in cargo shorts, shoes, underwear...

I get those items, if needed, from First Aid. One less thing to carry, no matter how small
Good point, but that isn't often all that close to where you get injured.

It isn't just the walk either, but also the amount of time it takes. Walking to the First aid could easily = a missed FP window.

I mean...if we happen to trip at WDW, IME, it usually happens when we're running late.:rolleyes1

Lanyard with ID, AP,CC,$20, 2 ibuprofen, a strip of mole skin and piece of paper with FP times, pocket has phone, and i have one of those bottle thingies hooked onto a belt loop.

DH (with cargo shorts) has two cheap ponchos, tiny container with his meds , wallet, phone, and a few pieces of candy (hard candy, not chocolate)

If they are calling for rain rain , not just a 20% chance of a shower, I will then take a backpack with heavier ponchos and a towel.

I love the no bag line.

We go bagless as well. Cargo shorts are a wonderful invention!

Except they can be hard to find for women!

Any clothing with pockets that zip (or are otherwise similarly secured) can be wonderful, like jackets. So LONG as- you don't go back to the room mid day, and forget to get your stuff from the pockets. (Yup! the voice of experience!)

I love bagless, but stuff CAN fall out of unsealed pockets. (Like jeans' back pockets)

In addition to going bagless some days, I also bring a small crossbody bag (on our vacations) in case we need it some days.

It's often easy to fold one of those string style bags up to be no larger than a wallet. Then you can take it out and use it once in the park, if you accumulate more things or want to empty pockets.

I would be really happy to wear cargo shorts since they tend to go down to your knees but women's cargo shorts, when you can find them have a silly little useless cargo pocket that wouldn't even hold a phone. I do have a couple of pairs of boys that I bought but boys don't have hips and I do and mama got back, which boys don't usually have so they end up looking like I'm busting slack.

Yes I agree with you. I found some mens cargo shorts from a company called Big Dogs. They have an elastic waist and a drawstring. The sizes run from Small-5XL. I also had problems with shallow pockets, these pockets are very deep and also have two leg pockets with velcro that were deep too. You can find them online if you are interested. If you decide to get them, I found they run a little large.

We went bagless for most of our recent trip. On those days, we carried almost exactly what you stated - sunglasses (on our heads), phone, SPIbelt (instead of a wallet), small sunscreen bottle, and a water bottle. On one or two days my DH carried our DD's autograph book in the pocket of his cargo shorts, but we didn't take the book every day.

We just got back. They were making everyone who had anything with any sort of zipped compartment go through bag check. I saw numerous people try to get through the "no bags" line with your SPIbelt or any other sort of belt with storage, go back and wait in bag check.

Similarly with anyone who had tried to stuff too much in to their pockets.

Thanks for the update. I imagine WDW security will be on high alert for some time to come, and that extra precautions will remain in place.

I used to go bag less before the metal detectors, but I don't want to be handing them a bunch of loose stiff if I get selected. It's easier to carry a very small crossbody bag now. I still only put my wallet, phone and hand wipes in it, so bag check is quick, and it's easier to keep an eye on as I go through the detector instead of individual items.

When I did go bag less, I did wear cargo capris, and they worked well.

I bring a string backpack, which I can fold down and put into my pocket if I want to skip the bag check.

Inside, I keep a bottle of water and/or resort mug, baseball cap, and small tube of sunscreen. These are all things that I could fit in my pocket or carry by hand, but it's easier -- and prevents unsightly pockets -- to have a bag to carry. If it's going to rain, maybe some flip flops and a poncho too. It's such a light bag, I hardly feel it on my shoulders at all.

My mom and sister can't go without a bag. I just bought a nice camera recently and try and plan around using it. I only bring it out when I know that I won't have to carry it the entire day (i.e. just going to MK for Wishes or EPCOT for Illuminations, etc.) My sister always brings her bag. We have a deal, though. If she's carrying my camera battery or something like that, we'll alternate. Some days I'll go through security, other times she'll do it.

But, yeah - you can certainly get through a day sans bag.

One day I dream to go bag-less, but I've gotten it down to a very small bag science (and this is a feat as I am usually a big tote girl!):

  • iPhone 6 with Mophie battery case - the case is an investment but it prevents having to bring cords, USB charging sticks, etc. I can just flip a switch when it starts dying and that's it! I use it constantly for concerts and such too. I also use it to take my photos if we don't stop for a Memory Maker photo.
  • Chapstick/lip balm with SPF - I learned this the hard way!
  • Very small hand sanitizer
  • Very slim card case with ID, health insurance card, debit card, 1 credit card, small amount of folded cash, 2 regular-size bandages
  • Travel-sized Visine for my contacts
I have been able to fit this all into a small "belt bag" (aka fanny pack with a fancy name) and it's awesome because it's hands free, wears like a belt so it's never been in the way, and it's been great for Disney because I've almost always been allowed to wear it on rides since it zips securely and I can seatbelt it in, basically. I don't even realize I'm wearing it most days! I would assume almost anything above would fit fine into pockets as well. The slim card case makes a huge difference over any size "normal" wallet. My sunglasses stay on top of my head or in the neck of my shirt when not in use.
