Just received notification that our school district is going remote next week. Right now the plan is to return to campus 1/10/22 but said it's an ever-changing situation, one they can't predict.

In my area several colleges have delayed reopening by a week or more. We anticipate that the public k12 schools may make some decisions to go remote. However a neighboring district just voted to make masks optional so there may be a lot of variation in what policy changes occur even in a specific area. What level school are you referring to in the post? I’m thinking k12 but want to confirm !

Mind sharing where you are and is this public/private school?

All schools, all levels in my county. I know of one other county that is also going remote. I live in Northern GA.

We are reopening as planned on Monday. Just did the district provided rapid tests (will do again Mon morning) and all negative. Things are getting worse here, but our school mitigation measures have worked really well up so far. Fingers crossed it continues! I’ll be wearing my KN95 to teach in though!

In the district I work, teachers are going back Monday and the kids come Tuesday. Our General Assembly passed a law last year than no district can use more than 10 virtual days. A few districts in KY have had to use a few, especially back around Thanksgiving. Our district hasn't used any so far. I am in the largest district in the state, so it is a little bit of an undertaking to go virtual and make sure every student has a Chromebook to take home and those that need hotspots have them.

Rapid tests aren't very accurate and are prone to false negatives. Both of my friends' kids tested negative with a rapid test and positive with PCR tests.

You would think they'd be prepared after what happened last year.

Youngest was placed on Q and moved to virtual starting January 5th with tentative reentry school date set for January 18th.

Where did you buy your KN 95 mask and how much?

Im high risk and numbers are high here in my area. I go back in a week. Before kids were showing up sick so I’m sure parents will continue to send them

Where I am in Virginia schools are going back (so far) despite our record breaking numbers. DC schools are doing the same with the requirement for testing be done tomorrow. I think there is only one county in Maryland that is going virtual up through MLK holiday.

I found this site during the pandemic and they seem to be pretty cheap: https://wellbefore.com. You must order a minimum of 10 but the shipping is quite reasonable. I think they offer a 5% discount for first responders, non-profits, and I think educators. You can use code PROTECTME10 for 10% off your order.

I like the fact that each KN95 mask comes individually wrapped as well so you can carry multiple with you in a bag, or put it in a drawer and not have to worry about it getting contaminated.

I'm in NE Ohio and our district just announced the mask mandate was back in place. Other districts in the county are going remote for at least the first week back.

The district is prepared now in that we have enough Chromebooks, it would just be a matter of making sure they are assigned correctly to the students before sending them home. I'm at the elementary level and while we are doing in person school, we don't let the kids take their Chromebooks home, so if we were going to go remote, we would have to have everyone come to school at least one more day to get them.

We are in GA as well. Two of the big four metro area counties have pushed return back as well. Im guessing its more staffing shortage issues than it is student safety. We are in a city school district and as of now we are still in person. Fingers crossed it stays that way. From a Chromebook perspective I just don't know how logistically you can switch the kids over for 7-10 days. In the elementary levels the Chromebooks were turned back in last year.

I know of no district in our metro area that did not check out Chromebooks to each child at the beginning of the year. It's going to be standard practice moving forward here.

I guess after years of checking out school instruments to 95% of my students I don't see what the big deal is to check out Chromebooks.

I get mine off of Amazon. After doing a lot of research about which ones still have EAU in the US and are legit (I guess there are a lot of fake ones out there), I’ve been using these. They’re sort of pricy, but they’re worth it when I have a bunch of K/1s in my face.

Our junior high & high school did, but they always have, so that isn’t a pandemic change. Our elementary schools did not because the younger kids don’t need them at home and collecting them back ends up being a huge headache. But we’re set up for quick distribution if we needed to.

I know my high schooler has a Chromebook for school. I told him to check one out even though we have a desktop at home in case there was any software on that we don't have. The private school my middle schooler goes to issues laptops to middle schoolers. The big issue for the high school is hot spots. I'm not too worried though because my older son's district and my younger son's private school were some of the first schools in my area to pivot successfully.
