Going out routine

Ok, here's a fun question for us since there's plenty of unpleasantness...

If you're going out on a date/evening on the town/girls/boys night out/an event (not a formal gala, just a normal evening) what's your routine?

For instance -

Women - do you get a mani/pedi? Is that part of your regular routine? Is that when you do a face mask? Curl or put up your hair? Try a new youtube tutorial?

Men - do you wash the car? Get a haircut? Hell, maybe ya'll get manis too?

If putting that into genders was inappropriate, do with it what you will, I don't care, but what's your thing?

I get mani/pedi's regularly (and always right before vacation) so no, I don't get them specifically for going out. I also reserve the sheet masks for lazy nights in with a glass of wine. I usually try to do something nice/different with my hair, and will often try a makeup look from pinterest. I do have a horrible habit of purchasing a new outfit (or at the very least a nice new top) when going out with the girls.

None of the above for DW or I. DW will spend extra time on her hair & choose just the right outfit for the occasion. I may take another shower depending on how work went that day, assuming it's a workday.

I don't do anything different except put on some nicer clothes and spray some perfume. I wear my hair the same, don't wear make-up at all and have never had a mani/pedi. Oh, if I'm wearing open toed shoes I do make sure my toe nails are painted. Other than that, what you see every day is what you get LOL

Same routine as a regular work day.....shower, shave (if I'm going sleeveless or showing some leg), make up.
If I have time or I'm in the mood, I'll straighten my hair, otherwise it goes into a ponytail or just sits on my head.

Shower wash hair, maybe shave, I only do that once a week, so usually unshaven. Nice shirt and jeans.

For me, I keep my nails up all the time, or I fuss with them, so that's an ongoing battle - like my eye brows.

If its an evening outing I'll wear darker/more interesting eye shadow - a day or brunch, I might add a bit more mascara. Every time I've tried a cool makeup/hair thing it turns into a pinterest fail. I can do my basic makeup very well, but you get into the super contouring, crazy eyemakeup, nope, I'm going to either be lopsided or look like a raccoon with a rats nest on my head. I change out purses and I actually do something nice with my hair within my ability instead of ponytail/bun - sometimes an updo, sometimes all the way down and straightened or curled. Dress as appropriate to venue. I do use lavendar bath salts and wear perfume (very sparingly) which I don't do for regular days. I wear a perfumed lotion on a day to day basis not perfume.

ETA: I'd say "going out" vs. going to work or just around town is maybe 10 minutes different. My fine (not thin) hair is a PITA if I want it to be anything but pulled back neatly.

I shower, comb my hair, brush my teeth, put on a cute outfit, put on perfume and lotion and walk out the door.
That's my routine in every day life and it doesn't change just because I'm going out for dinner etc.
Just today we surprised my mom with a birthday brunch at a tea house.
I did what I said above and nothing else... I'm pretty low maintenance when it comes to getting ready to go out.

I'll throw on an outfit that is appropriate to the venue. That'S about all I do differntly for the most part. Sometimes I just feel like dressing up and might spend more time on my hair and make up, etc---but that isn't a routine.

Nails I jsut get done right before a cruise or once in a great while i get a pedicure otherwise becuase i have time and enjoy it but not necesarily for a night out--in fact, if I had a night out I would probably be too pressed for time to get my nails done.

I work 50-something hours a week and I'm at the hormonally-challenged stage of my life where I'm pretty exhausted most of the time. DH and I don't do "date night" and outside professional and charity obligations, I'm happier to be home most evenings. When we do go out it's always for a specific reason, and whatever the event is will dictate how I get ready. I do my own nails and they are always "done", although I will often change my polish colour to go with whatever outfit I've got on. My hair is short and not very versatile so it takes some effort to fancy it up - only done for what the OP refers to as "formal galas". I never leave the house without fresh make-up so evening outings require a dash home to quickly spruce up - I absolutely NEVER go anywhere straight from work.

I get pedis regularly regardless of plans.

We went out last night and are heading out later this evening. I'll just shower, blow dry the hair, fresh make up, and an appropriate outfit. For me that's usually a casual outfit. Last night, jeans and a casual top as we were meeting friends at a neighborhood bar to hang out and listen to music- casual place/ casual clothes. Tonight is an outdoor barbecue- in Texas- in July. I'll be casually dressed since the melting will commence as soon as we arrive.

Honestly, I avoid anything that would require fancy clothes- no galas for me. If someone I really care about gets married, I'll pull together a dressier outfit but everything else remains the same.

Freshly scrubbed in our nice clothing.
No hair cut for me, DW says my hair starts to look about the right length about the time I get it cut.
Mani/pedi? Nope. DW has never had one in her nearly 60 years. DD is 26 and had two, hated both. She must have inherited by sensitive toes and fingers. Just thinking of a mani/pedi makes my skin crawl like happens when you hear fingernails on a chalkboard. LOL, wonder how many people, in this white board and smart board in classrooms era, even know what fingernails on a chalkboard sound like!

I'm like hikergirl, low maintenance. I don't do manicures and pedicures, I don't like wearing nail polish at all. I don't wear makeup except occasionally a bit of mascara and lipstick but even that is extremely rare. If we're just going to a casual restaurant or movie or something like that I'll wear jeans and a t-shirt, if it's a nicer restaurant or a show then I'll wear slacks and a nice top. Maybe I'll wear earrings too. Not into perfume but I do like scented body lotion and wear that quite often. I rarely change up my hair style. If it's cooler weather I'll wear it down and curled with a curling iron, but if it's summer and hot and humid I wear it up. I use a purse until it falls apart so I don't change them out depending on my outfit.

DH is low maintenance too. He will shower and put on either jeans or cargo pants and generally wears a t-shirt tucked in with a button up over-shirt as he does carry his gun 99% of the time wherever we go so that needs to be hidden. If we're going to a nice restaurant or show he will wear dress pants and a dress shirt and tie. About the only time he wears a suit is to a wedding or funeral, and even those not so much anymore as dress codes relax. He doesn't wear cologne much anymore.

I roll my hair, spend more time on makeup & dress up more than usual for date nights & special occasions. I paint my toenails, if I'll be wearing open toe shoes. My fingernails are always painted for vacation. I paint them for date night, if I'm in the mood. I also wear more jewelry on date night or for special occasions.

Oh yes, my 'going out' makeup and hair routine adds maybe 10 minutes (15 if I make more mistakes than usual and have to fix the carnage). I couldn't contour to save my life, and I have no desire to try. I do like to look at Pinterest for inspiration when it comes to different eye shadow color combinations, but even my most adventurous look is very tame and simple.

I have baby-fine hair so there really is very little that one can actually do with it, interesting headbands are my friend.

Sounds like we both know our strengths:) I love that stuff, but good lord, I can make myself a hot mess fast!

Headbands, barrettes, clips, anything that will hold it in place!

I work from home so day to day I'm in a tank top/shorts with no make up. So if we're going out I'll probably actually do my hair and put on some light make up. Take a few minutes to pick out a nice outfit. I've never had a mani/pedi but I do like to always have polish on my toes - can't stand it on my hands though.

My husband - well he may shower again before we go out - but mainly his getting ready is asking if I think his shirt is right for the occasion and changing from his "work" glasses to his "fun" glasses - oh and he like to put on fun socks.

A little off topic: My hair is fine (not thin) too, and is also a PITA. After all these years, I've never found a way to deal with it. I hate it.
Carry on......
