Going out routine

I get a mani/pedi and eyebrows waxed every two weeks so that's routine. I also get my hair colored or highlighted every 10-12 weeks. I shave every other day too.

I will spend more time on my hair and probably blow it out. If it's a very special occasion (bc we usually are out every weekend doing something) I'll go to the salon and get it blown out or curled. I'll put on makeup and a nicer outfit.

My SO gets a haircut every two weeks. He'll put on a nicer outfit and shoes. That's about it.

My daily routine includes, hair, make-up, outfit appropriate to my activity. I work in corporate America and keep my nails neat at all times, toes are always done. I get regular cuts and use a temporary hair color I do myself. I also do my own cleaning, yard work, etc, guess I am a do-it-yourself gal. If going out clothes, shoes, bag, make-up are appropriate to the venue. DH and I both love dressing up and going out. To me my outward appearance is very important. I do it for me and no one else. I work a ton of hours and the 70 hour week is not unheard of but I guess feeling polished is my way of dealing with the hours. It makes me feel better and I don't care what others choose to do. Everyone has to do what makes them happy. It makes me happy to get up, shower, do hair and makeup before I step out the door. My way is no better or worse it's just my way. Yes, when you see me at Disney, the grocery, work, a ball game or the gym my hair, makeup, clothes, shoes are all done. My mom was a tomboy so it did not come from her. My morning routine is about 20 minutes, not counting the 30 minutes between the shower\makeup and doing my hair, that's when I feed the dog, drink my coffee and watch the news.

No criticism is intended by this comment whatsoever---I just have to say I got a giggle out of this post becuase I am very lazy about "girly" things and reading about keeping nails always "done" and changing polish to match outfits and not leaving the house without fresh make up all I could think was that I'd be "pretty exhausted most of the time" if I were doing all that upkeep on myself :rotfl2:
:confused3 Meh - it's pretty easy to tidy up any melted eyeliner, sweep on a little pressed powder and put on some lipstick - 5 minutes tops to freshen up. And yeah, the nails are simple too, not super-long or done up with nail art or sparkles or whatever - I just mostly keep them polished with a light, pearly shade that wears well. With a special outfit I'll go bolder. Funny story: When my DS was born I was completely overwhelmed; I had really no idea what a newborn was all about. A friend from work dropped by unexpectedly about 10 days into my leave. We had a fairly nice visit but she seemed weirdly upset when she left. The next day she called with a bunch of advice about postpartum depression - she was extremely concerned that I was going off the deep end because she'd never once, ever before seen me without nail polish. :rotfl:

And @amberpi , I'm nowhere near 85 thankyouverymuch!! ;) But someday I will be, and I don't expect to change. My own beloved Mother died 6 months ago at age 99. She was similarly fastidious. :goodvibes We had the funeral home bring in a stylist to touch up her dye-job (always a beautiful coppery-red) before the visitation. (Nope - not kidding!)

Ok, here's a fun question for us since there's plenty of unpleasantness...

If you're going out on a date/evening on the town/girls/boys night out/an event (not a formal gala, just a normal evening) what's your routine?

For instance -

Women - do you get a mani/pedi? Is that part of your regular routine? Is that when you do a face mask? Curl or put up your hair? Try a new youtube tutorial?

Men - do you wash the car? Get a haircut? Hell, maybe ya'll get manis too?

If putting that into genders was inappropriate, do with it what you will, I don't care, but what's your thing?

Way too much work for me - why do people have to fuss up to go out? Makes people look all silly and fake, IMO. All that goop on your face, the uncomfortable clothing, uncomfortable shoes, ugh, makes me want to go home, wash the gunk off and get in my jammies...

When I see people go out and dress up and make an effort I never think they look silly or fake. If feels good to look extra nice. And when I say go out I'm talking out out. Date night, bday party, anniversary dinner. Not the grocery store or a TGI Fridays.

Lol about your nails and your friend!

Oh no! I did not think or mean to imply that!!! I was just saying "my nana is amazing and her style/fashion game is still on point." Seriously, between my aunts, nana and mom when I was in the hospital I had the best nails and braided hair in the whole joint. Nana is still stunning and just always looks so nice. Sometimes when I go to the coffee shop 2 days in a row in the same dress (I'd worn a total of 4 hours) I feel like I'm letting her down:(

"Out out" was what I was getting at, not running to Target or going to the coffee shop for an hour.

I agree about wanting to look nice because it feels nice. I do envy the women who look so put together at Target or whatever, I'm just not that into it.

I think some ladies just enjoy dressing up sometimes and wearing the make-up, and getting the manies and pedies. It makes them feel good.

:thumbsup2 Sounds like you've got a good foundation for being a very spiffy elderly person - both from a nature and nurture standpoint!

I wouldn't call myself particularly prissy, but I was definitely raised with expectations of what was "proper". You get out of bed in the morning and dress to leave the house. I always, always bathed at night and went straight to bed - still do. I didn't even own a bathrobe until I moved out on my own. I don't have any sweats or pj pants to hang out in and I never really saw the need. I come home from work and change into jean capris and a t-shirt to be comfy for the evening and that's fine for running out to Target or for coffee.

As far as make-up goes, again it's just a life-long habit. I get up in the morning (every morning whether I'm working or not) and get ready for the day. The morning ablutions are no big deal 20; minutes tops including washing, brushing, sorting out my hair and using cosmetics. Another funny story: It's not that I go way out of my way to prevent my DH from seeing me au naturel, but it's fair to say he mostly always sees me "done up". (He goes to bed earlier than I do and sleeps later.) One day a couple of months ago for some reason I can't even remember, I was around the house with no make-up. I have freckles that are much more prominent when not concealed. DH literally did a cartoon-style double take and in an unfortunate burst of candor, gasped and said "what's wrong with your face!?!". He realized how far in it he put his foot immediately but I thought it was hilarious!

@ronandannette - that had me cracking up.

I have a funny story about wearing dresses - which is my go-to a newish friend (I'd known her a few years) said you're always in a dress and look so cute. I said "its easier than figuring out an outfit" - a few years later I noted I hadn't seen her in separates for a while and she quoted back to me "its easier than figuring out an outfit." I do wear yoga pants around the house.

Throw on a dress, pressed powder, blush, lipstick. Scrunch my curly hair. Out the door. I keep up with shaved legs/underarms. Not much else. No nails or toes done, no waxing, no brows.

Oh that is funny! Depression over no painted nails! My word.

I still chuckle. I generally schedule 20 minutes for myself to get ready. That's showering, make up, hair and getting dressed. I usually get the bed made in that time frame too.
I'd have to sit longer than that just to get my nails to dry. I am lazy and impatient so that doesn't get built into my routine.

I could shave off a lot of getting ready time if I didn't have to do my brows, but I hate my scar over my left (I can make it unnoticeable) and on my neck, so I take the time to cover those. I never fussed with my eyebrows beyond keeping them tidy before I had the scar. Its a real PITA, but not something I can change:( Those are things I do for myself because they drastically increase my self confidence.

I get that. My old roommate was in a propane explosion. Let her with a scar down the side of her face. She was an aesthetician and was able to make the scar disappear with great make up. Uncovered, the scar was not an issue in my opinion, but she felt better doing that for herself.
