"Going it alone" at Disneyland

My teenage DD and friends only meet up with me for lunch, so I have plenty of time to spend alone at Disneyland. I have met the most interesting cms and guests because I talk to everyone (including the male friend of a celebrity who was pushed aside when a group of girls rushed his date for pictures and autographs).

Ahhhh c'mon, tell us who the celebrity was . . . . . please??????

Scream'n, TSMM, sometimes Soarin, Splash Mountain (this is the only way I seem to go on this ride!), and I think GRR might. I think its a good thing to try over all I have had great luck with it.

At another big event, I ended up talking to a celeberty for about 10 minutes and did not know they were famous until some one ran up and asked for their picture. I still didn't know who they were until the lady with him told me I was a bit embarrassed. My friends who I met back up with later and my Mom were mad I didn't get pictures since they all knew him :rotfl:

I went in Oct of 07 solo, kinda. I met my DD and her boyfriend there on a Sat.Of course carrying around of tennis shoes for a few hours trying to find her made me look like a total dork.Only rode a few rides together.
Had Sun all to myself. Nice for the first part of the day,but (I can't beleive I'm saying this) boring in the later half of the day.No wife or kids to pester.

Solo is great!

I will mention that I was single for a LONG time, and got very used to doing things alone. I don't hesitate to bring a book or notebook to a restaurant. I talk to people if I want to, I don't if I don't. Most people who talk to you and find out that you're alone will be impressed and jealous. The CMs will be especially impressed, though that was mainly with my husband, who had "sent me" on my solo trip, LOL. (I was near collapse after a family "vacation" in December of '07 so I got a weekend solo trip in January)

I love going where I want to go, eating when I want to eat, and really importantly, eating what I want to eat. Hubby and son have food restrictions that I don't, and when I'm with them I generally follow their lead, but on a solo day I can have the forbidden...a soda if I want it, a Mickey bar if I want it (they are so good...if only they'd get rid of the corn syrup in the ice cream part of it...hubby and son could share one!), etc.

Single rider lines are great. Splash, Screamin' (especially Screamin'), TSMM (though they had that SR line closed on my last solo day), Soarin' (I normally don't feel singled out when solo, but that line gets you some weird looks), Grizzly (I've never ridden when the SR line is open though, and even if you're with people you still share rafts with others, unless you are a party of 8). Mulholland Madness also, I think, but I've never been on that ride at all.

Taking pictures whenever. Sitting down and people-watching. Checking out rides and attractions for future family trips (did that with it's tough to be a bug!).

I love my solo trips. :goodvibes

Okay, has anyone been so extreme to have been a NON-SoCal res and flew to DLR and gone solo?

Have a very wonderful trip!
And do the things you have always wanted to do, yet never gotten to.
Safe Travel and I hope the headcold is better.

Yep, that would be me! I fly down by myself all the time. I normally meet up with friends but have gone solo before also. I love the freedom of doing whatever you want when you want to do it.

I also find that sometimes when people notice you are alone, like when standing in line, they will want to take you under their wing and take care of you. I've met so many nice families standing in line and standing and waiting for fireworks.

Unless I missed it, no one has mentioned Indy as a ride that utilizes Single Rider. Go to the CM at the regular entrance and ask for a SR pass. In my experience, typically they will give you 2-3 at a time, which is great 'cause you can ride multiple times throughout the day without bothering the CMs everytime you want to go on.

Then, take your SR pass and walk in through the exit (following the same way that people using the handicapped entrance go). This will take you to the film room where you watch the safety message from Sallah. At the far end of the room (closest to the screen), you will then join the regular line.

Typically the FP line stretches way farther back towards the entrance of the temple, so SR is a huge time saver! During the past 2 years I have been lucky enough to win DFPs on every trip, but never used the Indy tab as I could always use the SR line instead due to the fact that DH and I had to take turns staying with our DS while the other one rode Indy.

That'd be me, as well! pirate:

I'm from L.A., but am in AZ for right now. I often go back to L.A. to shop in the Garment District for fabric (I'm a tailor/designer) and I figure since I'm already in that general area.....why not go to the Park for a couple of days!

Most of the time I have friends meet me there, but if everyone else is busy then I go by myself!

Sherwin Sherwin Sherwin.

Look at my location. Tacoma here.

One solo almost-weekend just about a year ago. One solo day on my way home from a really unfortunate "ladies trip" to San Diego for Madonna...I made my reservation home from LAX, and got up sick-and-wrong early in the morning after being out until 2 at the concert, called a cab (OK, arranged for one the day before), went to the train station. Used my Amtrak Guest Rewards points for a one-way trip to Anaheim, got to Anaheim, caught a cab, dumped my stuff in a big locker (jumbo sized locker could have fit ME...my little carryon on checked bag were dwarfed in it), and spent a blissful day forgetting the adult nonsense from my ladies trip. Retrieved my stuff, caught Disneyland Express at the DLH, went home.

And I'm going on the Dis ladies trip in March, which is sort of like a solo trip, in that you're not beholden to anyone and can (I assume) jump up, say "I gotta go on Grizzly! or Space Mtn! or I must sit on that bench over in Frontierland and people watch! RIGHT NOW" and no one will mind b/c no one is depending on you to wipe a nose or anything like that. :)

Not yet - but I'm planning a solo trip in October. I guess coming in from Germany is about as extreme as it can get. ;)

How many of you have ever gone by yourselves to Disneyland? Did you feel strange? Did you like it better without a travel partner/group?
DH and I got annual passports, but since we work on weekdays, the only time we can really get to DLR is Saturday and Sunday. I'd like to go this weekend (if my head cold gets any better), but would be going by myself, since DH will be working overtime this weekend.
Just want to hear your thoughts!

I have had 2 official solo trips, and one unofficial. (long story but I ended up primarilly alone) I can take about 2 days alone and by the 3rd day I'm done. (1 full DL day and 1 DCA day) I like it, it can be very very relaxing, and fun to be able to whatever you want and not have to account to anyone. Nobody cares if you are alone, and if someone does ask, ( I had a small child ask me where my family was) I just tell them, a) I got here early but I'm meeting people later in the day, or b) They are over in whatever land and don't like this ride. Other than that, nobody cares if you are alone.
