Ncligs!!

I don't see a wristband on that diving smiley!!

.....come to think of it, I don't see a wrist....

Cute! :D

This really has nothing to do with pool hopping but it was sort of brought up on this thread. Do your room keys/park passes now have the resort name on them? The one I have from 2001 doesn't say where we stayed - just the name of the person who made the reservation (my mom), the dates of our stay, and that we were on the deluxe plan (same as gold now) and and id #. Maybet that number has something to do with the resort? I just wanted to make sure that they now all have the resort on them. I don't want to get "carded" at the pool at POR and not have the right id.

The number you see on your room key is coded with the number for the resort.

Hi honeymo78

Each resort has it's own number code ~ the CM's can see the code on the card and know where you are staying.

I just wanted to add that pool hopping had never even occured to me but on my last trip I was staying at AKL and had booked my daughter on the pirate cruise from the GF.

I was chatting with the concierge CM that we were on our way for the cruise the next day and I was not sure what I would do for the 2 hours my DD would be gone ~ I said aloud "maybe I will go for a swim at GF " and the CM immediately said "Oh no, you can only swim at the resort you are staying at" (she spoke to me like I was a kid)

Yikes... I was a little embarrassed for being admonished. Keep in mind I was a concierge guest for 10 nights at rack rate and still was cut no slack :p

Having said that ~ I ended up having a nice breakfast at the GF Cafe and shopping instead ~ but when I had a walk around the pool area it was DEAD... not a soul about. If I had had my swimsuit on I might have been sorely tempted to break ranks ~ but have no idea if I would have really.

My personal feelings on pool hopping (should anyone care) is that guests of values can pool hop to other values, moderates should be able to hop to other moderates and deluxes should be able to hop to other deluxes.

Disney should promote this feature as an incentive for people to book ~ stay at one, swim at 4..etc... oh well, its just a dream of mine.

I'm sorry but I just have to reply to this post. Guidebooks or no guidebooks CM or no CM, I can tell you this....... On our last trip to Disney 5/03 we stayed at BWI and it was great but the pool was extremely crowded. We decided to hop on the boat and go over to the Y@BC pool instead. I thought this would be okay since when we stayed at the YC a few years back our friends who were staying at DL came over one afternoon to join us at the pool and it was no problem. HOWEVER, now in order to swim at YC pool you have to have a wristband and in order to get a wristband you have to prove you are a YorBC guest. You have to have this wristband not only to get into the pool area but to get towels as well. When we tried to go into the pool area we were checked for a wristband..........access denied! quickly! I appologized because I didn't know and went back to BWI. I don't know about other resorts but I can tell you first hand that the Y@BC will not let you in. I guess I can understand it because if I were paying $200 a night and didn't have room to swim or even sit down because other value resort guests who only paid the minimum (and I have been a value resort guest many times)were taking up all the space then I would be upset. Try it for yourself! Hope this helps!

I didn't say it was important. Just being nosey. Kind of like you asking if I've ever been to St. Michaels. :D

Just curious...but why would you ask that? I find it odd that in all the pool hopping threads, at some point one of those who is against pool hopping always asks that question of one of those who thinks that Disney ought to be the one to decide.

Interesting idea, but why do you think that's a fair way to do it?

If it's based on what one pays for their room, with the idea that the more you pay the more entitled you are to swim at the "better" pools, it doesn't work.

Some of the most boring pools are at the most expensive resorts.
And, there are some who stay at the Poly for less than some pay for the All Stars, so it doesn't work that way either.

Or maybe you have an entirely different reasoning?

Actually, I think the current system is fine. Official policy is that pools are for the exclusive use of guests of each resort. On a case by case basis, Disney waives the rule.

I didn't know that a private conversation in a PM would be put out in the open for all to see. The contents were no big deal, I was trying to be nice & conversational, as I saw you were from maryland & enjoyed boating. For you to use a private conversation in a public forum is in really bad form.

peachgirl, we should hold fan club meetings once a yeart at WDW. we'll pool-hop, choosing a different hotel each time!

Sorry! I didn't realize I was making a big Faux Paux! I knew I was never to disclose hurtful info or nasty info but never about something nice!

Ah yes, trying to make a question into something it is not. I'm used to this from you. Anyway the question wasn't important in terms of what type of resort he/she has stayed at as in value vs deluxe. More in terms of if he/she has stayed in a resort that could be really affected by pool hopping such as SAB, the Poly pool, or the WL pool. All three of those seem to be the crowd favorites for pool hoppers. I know I've ran into quite a few at the Poly myself. And the hoppers were from other deluxes so I do not believe it is value folks doing most of the hopping. Just wondered if someone that has had to deal with poolhoppers would feel the same carefree way about pool hopping as say, someone that stays at the CR or GF, both of which don't seem to be big favorites. Just was trying to figure out the for hoppers and the con hoppers! So really there was nothing underhanded or devious about the question peach. Geez!

Edited to add that by Baloo's list, most of his resort pools probably aren't affected too much from pool hoppers if at all. Thereby he/she may not feel the poolhopping is that terrible since they have not encountered it too much. So my personal theory, for what it's worth, may just be correct. Like anyone cares! LOL!

4 Pages later....

No. You can only use the pool at your own (or sister) resort.

Beware of information contained in guidebooks. It is often wrong. A few years ago one book said that DVC members were entitled to FL resident status when purchasing tickets. This was just wrong. :(

Well... it is already being done at the values.. and partially being done at the moderates (POFQ & PO) when POFQ is open.

The only level that it is not being done is the Deluxes.

(I think) from a business point of view - it would be an excellent marketing strategy "stay at one.. swim at more"... and also a good customer service feature

(ie) someone at PO asks if they can go swim at the GF.. the CM instead of just saying no... can say no but offer several options to the guest (POFQ, CRS & CBR) this also gives the guest an incentive to book the deluxes next time ~ therefore the CM is upselling.

I also feel if hopping was not such a taboo ~ people wouldn't want to do it so much - I have a feeling that it not being allowed is part of the attraction.
