Going in Resorts to Swim........?

If it truly was allowed, there wouldn't be signs all around the pool area stating that it is for that hotel guest only (how could one say they didn't know....unless they don't read English, which is possible). Also, why would SAB be handing out colored wrist bans for its guests??? It isn't allowed. In 2000 I stayed at the Beach Club, when we went into the pool area we had to show our room key to enter. When my daughter left to go back to the room she didn't take her key (Dad was in the room), when she returned the CM wouldn't allow her back in! They hunted me down & I had to show a key for her to enter. It was many many years ago....when there were a few resorts that they allowed it. The only ones that can hop are DVC members, and from what I understand, they aren't allowed at certian times of year.

OK Ill give the official word as a cast member. It is ok to pool hop if your staying at a disney resort. There are no restriction on this at all. All resort anemmities are open to all "disney" resort guest. You can eat, shop, rent boats, bikes, and yes even swim at any disney resort. It is also a perk of being a cast member that we can swim in any pool without being a resort guest. This came as party of my traditions class. It is not publicised because they dont want everyone doing it, (just like discount codes) but it isd avaliable. Another thing is that if you bike or skate you can go to any of the resorts. best for skating or rollerblading is coranado springs, all stars and wildernedd lodge.(no cant do it on your breaks) no matter where you work you are not supposed to be onstage during breaks. Its a BIG BIG nono.

I highly doubt that you are a CM that has been recently employed. Have you seen the signs at the resort pools that say they are only for Poly resort guests or GF guests? The one at the GF even says that IDs will be checked. I think you need to go back and brush up on Disney rules.

if it is something you want to do, call & ask to speak to the hotel manager on duty. tell them of your wishes. If they say yes, have fun. if they say no, you are out of luck.

Now we all know there is the "fence" around SAB (although, I've seen people jump the back of it), and you need to show ID. At CR, POLY, & GF I have seen CM's walk to each group and ask to check id's of guest about every 2 hours and have seen entire groups of people pack up and leave when told they could not stay. Don't know if they where from the mk or from another resort but had been at the pools for quite a while and obiviously not supposed to be there. Resorts DO CHECK ID's so if you plan to pool sneeck be prepared to be asked to leave.

Of course this always will be more of an issuse when it is hot in the summer!

That's a perfect solution.:D I've always gone to WDW in June and July. I've stayed at CR, WL, GF and AKL. I have never had trouble finding a place to sit. I think this is mostly an issue at SAB.

I wouldn't want to pool hop. As long as the pool in my resort has water in it, I'm fine.:D Those who seek out permission to pool hop and get the permission, enjoy.:D

Last August I couldn't find a single empty chair at the main pool at the Poly one afternoon.

I've also had problems at both the main and quiet pool at the BWV. One time I was in the hot tub with my stuff on the ground and the people in the hot tub were talking about how nice that pool was, they were glad they had gone there rather than the pool at their hotel. Same trip there were people staying off-site who had come over from one of the theme parks to use the pool, again they were in the hot tub and my stuff was on the ground, and when they got out of the hot tun they went over to the 8 chairs theyw ere using. Nice. Not.

It really burns me up when it happens at DVC properties where members dues are what is paying to maintain and staff those pools. Of course that is why fences are going up around them.

Got this quote right out of KEYNOTES...the newsletter you get when you check into OKW. It is from 3 weeks ago:

***Resort pools are intended for the exclusive use of registered Guests of that particular resort****

That is pretty clear.

Also in the KEYNOTES:

***Florida law does not permit inline skating on roadways or parking lots. Please see a Resort Recreation Cast Member for information concerning in-line skating or scooters, as well as appropriate locations****

When we were at VWL a couple of weeks ago on July4th, the pool was totally packed and every chair was taken (at the villas pool as well). Part of the problem was the folks who came over from Ft. Wilderness and were pool hopping (we watched them leave the pool area in their suits, get on the boat with us and then get off at the campground). Even DVC members were not allowed to pool hop during this time because the resorts were at capacity.

Why should I not be able to enjoy the amenities of the resort I am staying at (and pay for with my dues) because others who chose to stay at another resort don't want to use the pool at their resort? When you pay a resort fee, it is for the resort you are staying at, not all Disney resorts.

We were staying at BCV the next night and the lifeguards were asking people in the pools to show their wristbands if they weren't obviously visible. Amaziningly, SAB wasn't all that crowded and we had no problems getting chairs in the middle of the afternoon even though the resort(s) were at capacity. I believe that enforcement of the rules do work and would like to see this at all Disney pools.

Last November, we were wandering through the BC looking for Beaches & Cream. We went outside and saw the sign and started walking towards it, didn't realize we had gone into the pool section/fence... the CM came right over to us and asked us for our resort ID's.... We explained we were looking for Beaches & Cream, so he showed us how to get to it... Good guard dog! He was polite but no way was he letting us into the pool area... There were plenty of people in the water, but it wasn't over crowded either. I just wouldn't think of going to another resort pool.. we were staying at the Polynesian, we had two pools there if we wanted to go swimming...

Great idea!

As for the "CM"....

Another case of a CM clearly stating something that is in direct oppostion to printed materials and posted signage.

Now ducklite...haven't you been around long enough to spot a troll when you see one????;) There's something clear about that post all right, but it's sure as heck not an example of a CM mis-stating policy.

I went to BC with DD looking for aqua socks and a CM in the gift shop had to walk me to the shop at SAB. We got a little tour along the way so that was fun, but he said I would not get in the fence without him.:o

Okay, the reason he's from NY and saying he's a CM, its because he's a former Walt Disney World College Program participant. As a former 2002 CPer myself and having worked (and still working) in the resorts, that information he spouted is incorrect.

It is not a "perk," it can be grounds for discipline, even termination if caught. We are not taught that in Traditions. Does it happen all the time? Yes, but you face the consequences if you are caught utilizing the pool. I've used the pools at the resorts but only when I've been staying there with family or friends, not at other times.

Resort pools are for the exclusive use of the guests at a particular resort. The only exception are DVC Members, who may go to all pools with the exception of Stormalong Bay and Animal Kingdom Lodge. Rules have changed due to demand, which is part of the reason for the confusion, and I too used to tell people that they could use all the pools before I was corrected by one of my leaders. I believe some resorts are just tougher with enforcement than others, which accounts for why some people have no problem go to other pools at other properties.

Sorry, the inaccurate information as the "official policy" really disturbs me.

Thanx for clearing that up DisneyChick02 :)

Can a "former Walt Disney World College Program participant" even call themsselves a CM?? lol

>>^..^<<

Actually, they certainly can- one of the beautiful things about the WDWCP is that if you'd like, you can retain a "seasonal" status, so you may come back to work during the summer, christmas, etc. You also retain status if you are a college representative (a WDWCP alum who goes back to their school and helps with the next year's recruiting presentation). It's a great program, I loved it!

One of the "perks" that was offered as a selling point to DVC members when we bought in 1993 was pool hopping. It was no longer available to general WDW guests at that time, just DVC members. Even for DVC members, there are dates when they expect crowds and don't allow pool hopping at all. And SAB and AKL don't allow pool hopping at all.

I'm sure a 2000 guidebook did say it was a benefit for all WDW guests, but some guidebooks never really get updated.
We just came back from BCV on 7/15. They had CMs at every entrance, checking IDs and handing out wristbands. And they actually read the IDs too. DH held out both of ours and the CM made him separate them so he could read them before giving the wristbands.

FYI, the resorts at the DLR have fences around them. the only way in is with a room key. This may be a sign of things to come at WDW

Thanks DisneyChick for clearing this up. I have several friends that work for Disney also and they agreed that the above so called CM was handing out false info.
