We have dinner reservations at trails end on our Magic Kingdom day. We've never been to Fort wilderness before. We will be going in September. Approximately how long will it take us to get there from the time we exit the Magic Kingdom? I know it can vary but just a rough idea. Planning to take the boat from the Magic Kingdom. We've also never been to the wilderness Lodge. Could we stop at the wilderness Lodge to look around and then walk to trails end from there? Other options?

A good safe rule of thumb is to allow an hour to get from any park to any resort.

I believe you can either take a bus, or from MK I believe you can take the boat / water taxi to Fort Wilderness.

I would take the boat. Great way to see another side of the "World".

Give yourself an hour.

Have fun

Yep, highly recommend the boat for a different view. :thumbsup2

The trip itself is 20-25 minutes or so, but you never know how long it will be until the next boat (max 30 minutes or so, assuming you make the next one).

Wilderness Lodge is definitely worth visiting as well, but I would stop there after dinner so you're not rushed. You can take a boat from FW to WL, just look for the signs on the boat dock at FW. :)

Assuming your dinner at the settlement at FW. Your best option is the boat, if you do a bus then you get dropped off at the parking area for FW, and have to take the internal bus to the settlement. The MK boat takes you right to the settlement.

Yes you can also take the boat to WL and look around then there is a trail (lots of people use it for running. You just go toward the DVC Villas and the trail crosses the sidewalk.

As others have said, there is also a bus but the boat is best. It will drop you off close to Trails End. The boats will also take you to Wilderness Lodge. There is a path from there to Fort Wilderness but it is further than you may think (about a mile I believe - which is about one full trip around World Showcase lagoon).

So, yep, 20-25 minutes travel from MK plus whatever the wait is for the boat.

I will support what others have said. Get on the large boat at the MK going to the campground. You will have a 5min walk to the trails end. Go back to the dock and get on a small boat. The large ones only go to the MK the small ones go to the WL and CR. Easy trip... Super fast plus it is a nice ride. I would not even consider another form of transportation but if you want to complicate matters you can walk to the CR then to the dock and take the small boat on the right side of the dock. The left side goes to the WL.

Loads of wonderful details here, but the short answer is to take the dedicated boat to FW. Actual travel time is probably about 15 min. If you just missed the boat and have to wait, add another 20 or so. When you disembark, Trails End is a 3 min walk. An hour is always good in case of a problem.

There are buses to FW, buses to WL, boats to WL, CR, and various combinations. Those are fun, but not faster. The walk from WL to FW is 20 min. via a non-lighted path. The FW bus will drop you at a depot where you would transfer to a second internal FW bus, requiring a 15 min ride to Trails End.
