Going from Deluxe to Pop

We stay at POP for spring break, and then do a deluxe hotel at the end of August each year. We have never had any room issues at POP, and I love being there. As others have mentioned the rooms are a bit smaller, but still fine. We still take mid day breaks for the kids to swim so we spend more time at the room than most, and have no issues at all. I have had a room at WL with duct tap holding the ceiling fan together before! Only time I have ever experienced any bus issues is when it is extremely busy, and just make the best of it. I have experienced bus issues at every level of resort...

So, this will be our fourth trip to Disney....have stayed at AKL, BWI and CR garden wing. Our last trip was October 2015....looking into booking a last minute trip for May. Due to some home improvement projects, we are looking at Pop. We are rope drop to close people. We are a family of 4....kids are 13 and 8. I keep telling myself it is just a room and it's still a trip to Disney!! Don't really want to stay offsite as we enjoy bring in the bubble! Also keeping my fingers crossed that we could maybe possibly score a renovated room. Thoughts?

We stayed at a value for the first time this fall and chose Pop. We loved the theming of the resort and it prompted quite a few discussions at night with our children (14 and 10). The smaller beds were definitely a change but I think the biggest change you will notice in May might be the absence of a hot tub or pool slide if you are pool people. The buses were about average compared to all of the other resorts we've stayed at but the lines were always ridiculously long even if they moved quickly. Have a great trip!

Thank you for your reply!

With your scenario of being rope drop to closing i wouldn't worry so much about where I am staying. You have it much better than off site and you are making this trip work with going an economical way. I have never stayed at a value, but i would guess that even the pools are still nice. It is disney so who really cares

Thank you for your reply! We probably won't even use the pool...the only time we have used a resort pool was when we were waiting for our MNSSHP ticket to allow park entry at 4:00.

Okay so I haven't stayed at a deluxe yet, upcoming stay I will do a split stay 4 night ASMo and AKL. That being said, our firs two visit were offsite in condos. Our first property stay was 2014 Carribean beach really for the new rooms because there were 3 adults and a 10 yr old and had concerns about the size of Pop. This past July we stayed at Pop(but just myself dh and infant) we had a King. Then Porfq. Honestly I do wish we could have stayed at Pop for first property visit looking back now. It felt more disney, I liked the layout alot better. Also honestly moving forward I think for us I will stick to Value, or deluxe of I can swing it. My dd did love the pool slide at CB but I don't think ita that serious. So we are sucking up the bed situation for the next trip because we love the disney bubble. Like someone said it will boil down to your families preference and what is important this time around, Disney Bubble or space? Also my mom stayed in Disney Springs when we were on property the 1st time and I will say she rather stay on property at Pop then do it again. Keep in mind resort fees and parking fees.
Good luck!

Thank you for your reply. We don't want to give up the Disney bubble! :)

We're staying at Pop for the first time next month (after staying in a couple of different mods before) and I keep thinking maybe I should be worried about bed size, but really I'm just looking forward to the fun theming and unusual photo ops!! I love being immersed in the Disney Bubble, and I've actually always wanted to try this resort (and someday AKL and WL).

Going from a hotel feel to entering my room from the outside and sleeping on a double bed would be a deal breaker for me. My good friend has stayed at Pop 2X and won't do it again due to thin walls and noise. Although you can get noise any where. I would look at The Bonnet Creek resort next to the Waldorf and down the street from DS. I would't worry about cleanliness any hotel can be nasty. I once checked into GF and the bed was a mess and there was a dirty diaper in the trash can. However, the front desk was awesome and immediately moved me and upgraded be to a MK view room.

But if you are at the parks from waking to sleeping you won't have the need for a hotel restaurant and/or bar and if you can live with small beds and crowded food courts I would say go for it. Hey it is still Disney!

I'm staying at Pop for the first time during the Dis 20th event, after staying at BC on my last trip in 2016. I will be solo so I'm not too worried about the bed size but this will also be my first trip in a while without a car and relying solely on Disney transportation. Like you, I'm thinking I'll still be happy to be in the Disney bubble and I think the theming looks really cute. I couldn't justify the extra expense of a Deluxe this time as I'm taking my mom on a trip to Europe in December.

My fiance and I love POP and have never had an issue. If you are going to be at the parks for most of the day it would make sense to save a bit of money and just pick a value.

Thank you for the reply! The walls were thin at the CR garden wing too....

We have stayed at Pop every year since it opened over 10+years ago and a coup,e of years TWICE!!! We stay at Pop because it is "home" to us and because we want to! We have done nights at other resorts and my now DD19 says it is nice but it just isn't Pop. I love the atmosphere, food court, the massive Lady and the Tramp! The cm's, the other guests just the whole feel...magical. Whatever you choose it will be wonderful cause truthfully a rainy day at WDW is better than a sunny day at work! Have a magical time! :flower1:

You might want to price renting DVC points and stay at OKW. With two kids that age, the extra space would well be worth it IMO.

We have stayed at POP 3 times now and have never had a problem with noise. We stayed AKL concierge on our last trip and that was the loudest room we have ever had.

We are huge POP fans! I've never head an issue with cleanliness in either of my stays, but if you did they would definitely fix it for you! We love the fun, colorful atmosphere at POP too. We will probably start staying deluxe soon as we will soon have little children and will want to be super close to the parks, but with teens I think POP is the perfect choice!! Make sure to enjoy a POP waffle while you are there :)

Thanks for your reply! I did price out points, but my stay at pop will still be cheaper. 5 nights, 5 day base ticket with one water park day is about $1800 for the four of us.
