Maybe I should have phrased my question differently. First off, believe me, I love WDW and I personally would go every year or even more than once a year. I'm thinking of the kids, would it be "more" magical to skip a year? Has anyone had this experience, that you took a year off and when you came back it was more like the first time? Don't think that I'm asking you to confirm my thesis, I don't even know the answer I want to hear, so I appreciate all responses. Thx.
We've been once a year starting in 2006. We originally went back in 1997 as a couple (no kids). Then went again 3 years later in 2000...honestly we did not enjoy it as much as the first time for some reason.
However, since we had DD we have been every year starting in 2006, with this being the 4th year in a row. (We actually are having 16 months between trips, which is WAYYYY too long.) I do believe everyone has a threshold where there is too much Disney - for most here that threshold is more than a year. For me, I prefer limiting trips to about once a year, as it feeds the addiction, while still making us really look forward to them.
Anyways, not too sound like a shill for WDW, but:
(1) with kids, once a year does in no way diminish the magic. Kids change too quickly, and every year it will be a different experience. Our DD is now 6, and she is in the years now that Disney works best, from 6-10 years old. And, yes, they might want to do some of the same things as last time, but watching how much they enjoy it would alleviate some of the repetitiveness.
(2) People say that it is all the same - but that is up to you. There is SOOOO much to do at WDW. One of my goals is always to "experience something new each day". By going more often, yes you might get sick of certain things (I've had enough of Dream Along with Mickey show, thank you very much) but by not needing to do those same things each time, you can try new things, or if you miss something, you know you'll be back again. (Example: Last trip we had to miss Spectromagic, which we all love, but knew that we would get to see it again THIS year, so it made it more tolerable.) For instance, GO during a holiday celebration (Halloween or Christmas pops to mind), or spend a few days in the water parks instead. Spend a day a Fort Wilderness and go for a horse ride. Take a tour. The options are literally endless.
Anyways, only you and your family can really tell what is "too much". I will say this, it is likely that if you go, and it IS "too much" you will know it. We haven't found it yet, and as we are buying AP passes for our December and October 2010, we are considering a third trip within the 12 month window, which would put us up with the REAL addicts...I'll let you know if it is TOO MUCH!
