Going every year "too much?"

We've gone to WDW two years in a row, and I'm wondering if we might be better off skipping a year? Do any of you find that there are diminishing returns if you return every year, that maybe it would be more "magical" to take a year off and then come back in 2 years?

Note: I know there are a lot of things to do, but we have young kids and if we go they are going to want to spend 75% of the time at MK doing the same things we've done the past two years. Take money out of the equation, because I"m sure if we didn't go to WDW we'd do something else that would be of similar cost.

We do Disney almost every year, true not much new, but we have our favorites moreover we love the very air of Disney. However if you want to skip a year why not. One of my friends go every 2-3 years and do cruises and other destinations in between. You can also go to Universal and other parks like Sea World without Disney if you still wanna do theme parks. It is really up to you.

We went on our first family trip in Aug. 08- the trip of a lifetime with little expense spared. (My husband and I had both been as kids, but don't have strong memories.) We returned in Feb 09 - moderate route (6 months later). This summer we went to the beach (usual summer vaca), and I missed Disney - counting down till June 2010. Instead of the beach condo that I've always dreamed of (we would have had to rent it for most of summer to cover costs), we bought into DVC. Now, I am guarenteed to go to Disney every year.

I guess it depends on your love of Disney, but I am going through withdrawal!

Maybe I'm in the minority on this one, but I don't think there is such a thing as going too much. At least not in my world. I go at least four (4) plus times every year. Nope, I never get tired of it.:worship: It has not diminished any of the magic for me. I am here now, and I have already been twice this year before this trip. Plus, I am coming two (2) more times this year. I don't live in Florida. I also went to DL this year.

I have my favorites I do each and every trip. I also try to do different things. I have been so many times, I can relax on my trips. I don't have to do commando park, and that is a good thing.:cool1:

Coming to Disney is my big vice in life. If you love all things "Mouse" like I do, go and enjoy it as much as you want.

IMHO - HECK no!!

We love Disney and it's our one big shebang trip we go on every year. We do a little trip maybe in the summer if work allows. But honetly with going every year, you can do a little bit each day and take a break in the afternoons/evenings and it's more relaxing and you don't feel pressured as though you're never coming back.

If you love Disney every year is def not too much!
:woohoo:

As an adult I still find (and NEED :lmao:) the MAGIC, my dh says that I REQUIRE my fix, :rotfl2:
So as far as I am concerned once a year in no way diminishes the "effect" that DISNEY has on ME :thumbsup2
That being said, the DH goes along with me on this...it is the last place he wants to go....rather spend our $$ elsewhere....I am so addicted I cannot imagine "not" going.....I think we only missed one year (when I was physically unable to go due to chemo) so, I think it really depends on what your family gets out of it. For me, it has been a Bonding time with my ds, now a teen who has literally grown up at Disney. Seriously, if you look at our photo albums and scrapbooks, he grows before your very eyes:lovestruc, such amazing memories...so If I can digress a bit....
when he was little and the castle was decked out to look like candy ...all pink and frosty and candy pieces everywhere, he went running up to the castle, literally with his little tongue sticking out and wanted to lick it...We were able to get a picture and it still brings tears to my eyes....so adorable....so "part" of our never ending memories made at Disney!
Thanks for the opportunity to Re-live that little bit of history.:cloud9:..he is a Sophomore now and though he likes Disney...he also LOVES to cruise.....so who knows how much longer I'll be able to bring him without dragging him along....
I say whatever works for your family is Good. SO, if you think a break whether that is 1-2 years is needed to "ramp" up the excitement for a return visit, I say go for it....
In the meantime, keep making those MAGICAL memories where/when ever you vacation!!! :thumbsup2 We're the lucky ones able to vacation each year! :goodvibes

For my family, there is no such thing as too much! We go at least twice a year, and I would go even more if I could. We have not found that the magic disppears or the fun is less because we go more. In fact, we aren't getting to go for our annual Christmas trip because we are going for my daughter's 16th birthday instead in April. All three of us are very sad and experiencing serious withdrawal! I should explain that I am a single mom with two teen girls, and Disney provides a safe, fun place for us to go as a family. Darn...April is a loooooooooooong way away!

LUCKY LUCKY LUCKY YOU!!!

it is strictly a been there done that sort of thing. how many times can you walk through the same area:laughing: actually 19 times and counting and we fly from PA.

I think it is, but I still seem to do it. Some years I have gone three times.
It does get old, but it is always a good time overall.

What's nice is you do not have to rush to rope drop.
You do not have to stay till closing.
If a line is too long you can skip it.
You've done it before so there is a lot less pressure.

We used to go every other year. However, this year we are going twice (went in March and is going again in December for the Christmas festivities :cool1:). My DH used to say that he could only handle going to Disney once every couple of years, but now he has had a change of heart. He truely does love Disney, but will never admit to it, and he just loves seeing Disney through his DDs eyes, plus we have so much fun while we are there he doesn't really want to take that away from us. On the flip side, we do own a timeshare condo somewhere else, and as long as we can keep going there once a year, he has no problems going to Disney every year for us.

:worship::smickey:

We could never get tired of the place no matter how often we went. Our idea of shaking things up is alternating coasts

This will be my first trip to wdw so my vote really doesn't count at all! But we planned on a 12 day trip there because we don't plan on going back for many years. My philosophy is that there are so many amazing places to see that I want to travel around and see those. Then when my list is pretty much checked off I would probably go back to disney (or if i ever had children I would take them)

This will be our third trip to Disney this year and after it we will have spent 27 nights there this year. I have to agree with other posters, we've been there enough now we don't feel like we're missing out if we take the afternoon and hang out at the pool or go shopping. The first time we went we had to do EVERYTHING, now we simply do what we feel like. Having young children we find this allows for a much more relaxed vacation and the memories we make are awesome each and every time!

We've been every year since 2004 (2010 is booked:)). I tried to skip this year, but when the 4/3 deal came out for the dates I wanted in August, I couldn't resist. DH didn't go with us because he was "Disneyed out", but when we got home he admitted to me that he missed it and is looking forward to next year's trip:).

We have some favorite things we do every year, but we also like to try new resorts and restaurants. I also find that I am able to relax and not worry about "doing it all" because in the back of my mind I am thinking, "There's always next year". I've priced other vacations because there's a part of me that keeps thinking, "We could do a less expensive vacation", but by the time I price the alternative to include everything I would want, it ends up costing about the same as Disney and I feel like I'm getting less for my money.

The thing I like about Disney is that it can be as jam-packed or as laid back as you want it to be. I like having that option. A lot of other places we have considered don't have the jam-packed option, and, this is sad but true, we aren't that great at entertaining ourselves. Disney World offers all the entertainment we could want, with plenty of ways to chill if we'd rather do that.

For us, it isn't so much diminishing Disney returns, though I do think it could easily get to that for my not-totally-Disney-nuts DS & DH. It is a desire to go other places as well, and having limits on time and funds that get in the way of doing both.

We've done big Disney trips in '05, '08, and have one coming up in Dec '09. We went for a weekend in '07 but took our big annual trip elsewhere in '06 and '07. 2010 will be the same - I'm hoping for a small/short trip during Flower & Garden, but the big trip will be non-Disney Orlando for the Harry Potter attractions at Universal. After that, we'll play it by ear. The big kids are getting older and I'd like to make it to Hawaii and the West Coast (including a couple of DL/DCA days) before my oldest leaves the nest. Plus we definitely want to plan a big Disney trip around the time the new Fantasyland opens, so construction schedules/delays will probably play a role in the planning of our next big WDW trip. It may well be a few years between big family Disney trips, but I'm sure there will be a long weekend or two to tide us over during that time.

Once a year isn't too much IMHO. We go 4 (or more) times a year and enjoy it every time.

I'm the same way. I want to see more! I have been trying to push more non-themepark trips for a while now particularly as DS has gotten older. I'm a traveler at heart and being in the same place all the time seems a bit stifling.

Now if only I could find more money....

We've been going every year for 10 years. We've certainly changed our style - used to go for all 10 days of Spring Break, at the park for openings, full throttle. Now, we squeeze in 4 and 5 day trips in the off seasons, based on what we can work with daughter's school schedule, and I need a cattle prod to get them out of the room and to our lunch reservations. . .;)

A few years back we were going to do Hawaii instead of Disney - daughter wanted Disney. My husband said, "Well, you won't want to do Disney forever, so I guess we'll enjoy it for now." Daughter replied, "Dad, if Mom hasn't out grown it, what makes you think I will?":rotfl:

Weren't going to go this Fall, but helped a co-worker plan her trip with her young kids and got a pin in the e-mail and couldn't help ourselves -- we leave on Thursday!!:yay:

I used to go every year and Loved it. Went last year and took this year off to have a baby. But next year we will be back at Disney!!:wizard:
