Going back to our 'happy place" w/pics link to my trip report( 9/7)

Woohoo on6 days!!!!!
I'm glad you asked about writing the trip report bc I was wondering the best wayt to do it too. Have fun with your birthday party this weekend!

Hi Amy!!! Wow! You are so close! The only other thing I can think to add to your notebook would be any show times, like Off Kilter, ect... You can get them off Steve Soares site.
Thanks for the tip!:thumbsup2
6 days left!!

I really like the teacher's idea of having Peyton write a report while he was gone. That will be great to keep and look back on when he gets older. ;)
I am having Rebekah and Peyton do it and will also have Rachel do it with my help.10 more min and I am down to 5 days!!!

I can't wait to read your report when you get back!:goodvibes The bday party is for DH so it will be pretty calm. All I have to do is make a cake(and pack, clean house, babysit a two year old for most of tomorrow, etc:rolleyes: ).

Rebekah has been nervous about us telling her teacher about going to Disney.Well I guess she heard me talking about how great Peyton's teacher was about the trip and decided to tell her today.I tried to call her teacher this morning before school but she never answered my call.Anyway she told her about the trip and that she would miss three days and her teacher was not so nice.:sad2: Now this is a friend of DH's and one of my favorite teachers at the school but Rebekah said she went on and on about attendance, missed work and even said she hopes she stays healthy so she doesn't miss any more school.I don't know if it was her tone of voice or what she said but Rebekah was in tears.:sad1: She feels really guilty now about going.I talked to her about it and told her not to worry that everything will work out but the damage has been done.:scared: I will go to the school before classes start on Monday to talk with her.

The rest of this weekend will be spent running last errands, rolling change, cleaning house, paying bills, finishing my trip notebook and packing. And I am babysitting from 4-11:00pm:scared1: Feeling a little overwhelmed.Oh and Peyton's Dr. decided to change his meds starting tomorrow.:headache: Don't know how he will react so I may be dealing with that.

Okay I have a short mommy brag moment.Rebekah has tried every sport imaginable and has not found her special one.Well she decided she wanted to give softball one more shot(She played one fall when she was five years old). She got out there and towered over most of the kids and was immediately selfconcious. She got up there and she was awesome!!She was the only girl to hit the ball to the outfield and she also caught fly balls.:woohoo: Before her tryout was even over she had coaches coming to us asking if they could freeze her before the draft. She was beaming from ear to ear and talked nonstop all evening about it.:thumbsup2 I was able to pick coaches that I felt good about.I guess she has learned something by going to all the baseball tournaments the last three years. Sorry to ramble but she has such a bad body image it was good for her to see that being tall and strong can work for you .:goodvibes Good night!

I thought I would include some nondisney pics of my kids.

great shots of the kids... and Yay Rebekah!!!

I am totally appalled by both teacher's reactions.... I talked to 2 of Forest's teachers on back to school night and neither one gave me any issues... they were very polite and sweet about it.... not like how their teachers have been...

Sometimes families can't vacation during the summer.... at least we are doing something to let your kids be kids and together as a family :)

Hey!

My nieces teacher is giving my sister a bunch of crap about missing school too....we are going during ISTEp testing so I guess it is not good timing for the teachers but I had no idea and I refuse to rescheduale so my neice may not be able to afterall. SCHOOLS SUCK!!;)

So cool that Rebekah is into softball! I am having those issues with Heath right now, he cant find a sport thats right for him,....we are trying flag football next month-maybe thats his calling*keeping fingers crossed*:D

Cute pictures of the kids!

Boo on the crappy teacher reaction! Why make the kid feel guilty? Honestly!?

I'm so glad Rebekah found her sport! That's wonderful news! Don't you just love to see them excellent?! It's the best mom feeling in the world. (I noticed that Upward Soccer uniform. We played Upward too!)

OK....have a great weekend and roll that change, woman!

We are one of the families that have a hard time vacationing in the summer. My dad works during the summer,my boys traveled in the summer, and its CHEAPER in September.:goodvibes I am not too worried about her reaction.

Great pics BTW!!! There soooo cute!

Thanks!
That totally stinks about the teacher! Meanie. WTG Rebekah on the softball, that's fab!
HI!!Yeah I don't understand why she is being this way.She was great about Peyton going last year.Maybe she just wanted a break from him.

I agree about making her feel guilty. Its not like she made the decision on the time to go.:confused3
I hope she sticks with softball-she obviously has natural talent.:woohoo: Yep I was proud.:goodvibes She played upward soccer last spring and had fun but just ran around grinning.Nver really "played".:rotfl2:

Sorry your DD was made to feel so bad! :confused3

When you speak to her teacher, perhaps you could let her know that it would have been more appropriate for her to communicate any misgivings she had about the situation to YOU and not to the EIGHT YEAR-OLD!

Being a :teacher: and having had many students head to WDW during the school year I must say I have never been mad or anything less than thrilled that my students had the opportunity to go! I wish they would take me with them. I know schools are getting tougher on attendance, but come on- a trip with family is very important in my book!

My girls' teachers were just thrilled that we are taking a family trip. However, I did keep the testing dates from last year & tried to make sure we weren't anywhere near them (even though I didn't know for sure this year's dates.) The testing IS important to how much money a school system gets. That all being said, this is a conversation between adults, not the kid.

Sorry this happened. Educators are not created equal when it comes to communicating!

That's awful that your dd's teacher reacted that way!

I know how it feels though...my dd goes to a Montessori pre-school and periodically the teachers send home little articles and stuff for the parents to read. Well, right at the end of last year we got a photocopied article that had a picture of Mickey Mouse on it with a big line through it and the article went on to explain all the reasons why fantasy characters are so bad for children and blah, blah, blah.
I love my daughter's school and believe in their philosophy but this was just too extreme of a position for me.

I haven't told them yet that we're taking her out of school for a week because we're going to WDW yet but they'll get over it ;)

What in the world could be wrong with a fantasy character? I LOVED fantasy as a child & lived in a dream world which my parents seriously encouraged with books & storytelling (& trips to Disney) and I grew up to be a productive member of society. Fantasy, books, and dreams: isn't that what childhood is?

Hi Kathy!I will talk to her Monday morning and will let her know how Rebekah felt after talking to her.I am hoping this is just a big misunderstanding.:confused3

I bet you are a wonderful teacher.:thumbsup2 The thing is last year she was great about Peyton going and even asked for us to get her a specific souvenir.:confused3

I stayed away from testing days too.:) Yes ,I wish any misgivings she has would have originally been directed to me.We will see what she has to say Monday morning.
