WOW...

I thought I clicked on the Communty Board...not the Debate Board...

Good thing my back button works.

Agreed

ummm... if your back button works, then maybe you should use it instead of posting a snide comment.

it's good to know everything is functioning :)

When I posted this thread under the debate board, I was under the assumption that as adults we would first read the source then debate it the merits of it - I will take fault in not making the topic clear enough -
Should we oust prayer and the Pledge and allow Porn to be in our universities? If so, should OUR tax dollars pay for it?

Regardless of who wrote the article, it's a fact and it is outrageous!

My Pop always told me that until you know what you are talking about - DON'T SAY A WORD!

A general rule in any debate to know the subject matter prior to presenting them in any type of discussion.

Can we at least agree to disagree?

As another general rule of thumb in a debate, presenting enough facts to the rest of the debaters so that they can form an opinion is usually the responsibility of the original poster, IMO.

Since it was identified as being in a popular magazine, I assumed that others would have access to it and therefore would take the time to read it prior to posting.

Next time I will attempt to post the entire article prior to commenting on it for a debate in this forum.

I have no problem with those courses being offered.
Just like I have no problem with religion courses being offered at a state college.

Unless you've personally looked at the syllabus and spoken to the professor teaching it, then I would say you are probably jumping to conclusions as to whether or not the class has merit.

I took a class at a private college entitled "Psychology of Sexual Deviancy" and it covered beastiality, porn, homosexuality, and other things that keep the morally superior awake at night.
We had to rent porn for the class and everything. And you know what? it wasn't about how to look at naked women and a class all about cheap thrills (although I am sure some people took it for the same reason. Just like I know men who take women studies to pick up women). It was mostly study of society's prejudices

Not to nitpick, but the issue of Religion in Public School which everyone is required to either use or pay money to avoid by replacing with a private alternative, is different from College or Universities, which you choose were to go.

Also Colleges usually have many elective courses to choose from, and I'm sure that these schools do not require these classes be taken by anyone.

For what it's worth I would object to these types of classes in Public Schools (through high school) as much as I object to Religion being taught there.

But most colleges, even state ones do have some form of religious course work, it's considered part of a liberal arts education.

Colleges should not be compared with High School and lower in this way. IMHO.

The March 2003 Readers Digest has an article (Porn 101) in That's Outrageous by Tucker Carlson (regular columnist for Reader's Digest and co-hosts CNN's Crossfire) on page 31.

The article details the new courses offered at several well known colleges (Berkeley, University of Massachusetts, Arizona State) that deal with pornography (hard core), erotic dancing, self videotaping of sex acts, beastiality.

I am disgusted that our federally funded colleges/universities are allowing this kind of crap to be taught! Why are we allowing them to throw out both prayer and the Pledge but let porno in?

No wonder we are in the mess we are in now!

Maybe it's just me, but I don't see what the big deal is. They are college students with thier own minds. People who take this course aren't high schoolers.

By any chance, is this a psychology course?

Okay, I just read the article myself, definately not a course that will catch on at Baylor anytime soon! Thank God!

Okay, I'm not going to read all this because I see "hot debate" written all over this and I'm proud of my clueless position so I'll just skip right over it.

By in my opinion I don't see the big deal...I'm sure they're not actually doing those things in the class and if people want to study that kind of stuff and become the next up and coming porn director then that's his/her own decision. I personally don't see what god has to do with it either, if you want to study god then go to a school that has courses in religion for you to study. I don't see the major problem???
