Gobble, Gobble! How many people...

It's great to see so many different ways of celebrating. Those who have many visiting remind me of my Thanksgivings as a kid. There's also something to be said for those just having their immediate family. That's what we're doing this year. Just me and DS. I've got my little 3 lb. Butterball breast in the freezer just waiting. :) And I like the idea of the movie. DS and I decided to see Santa Clause 2. :teeth: Come to think of it, many years ago while I was still home with my parents, there was one year when I went with a friend to see a movie that evening. I remember it struck me funny because I thought the theaters wouldn't be open on Thanksgiving Day. Just be careful not to over do it or you may end up feeling like this little guy looks...

We've also done the holiday/movie thing a few times the last
few years. It gets the kids out of the house, and leaves the
'old folks' (my grandmothers that is) with quieter surroundings for a bit. And, since I have one grandmother that is very cranky....:)
Now, just waiting for the holiday ham....yep ham, my Mom doesn't like turkey very much, so we usually have ham.:) W
After all it keeps PETA happy doesn't it....no killing of turkeys?:bounce:

Kteacher: I wanna come to your house!! :D :D
Actually, we're going out to dinner this year. 12 of us.

We go to my Aunt in laws house. Thanksgiving has been held there for the last 30 years. There are usually 25-30 people there. Last year I broke tradition and had my family at my house. I will hear about that the rest of my life. I wouldn't dare a repeat.

DH's Aunt and Uncle are getting somewhat forgetful. We've had raw turkey, burned turkey, raw and burned vegetables, no stuffing, no bread, and once, they forgot we were coming! This is funny because my husband hadn't ever missed Thanksgiving at Aunt moni's until last year. Now the younger generation does most of the planning and cooking. We all pitch in and it's good.

Aunt Moni tells me every time we see her that she has our wedding gift wrapped and waiting for us, but we've never seen it. It's been 5 years. I'm not holding my breath. ;)

Despite these things, these people are great. They've always made me feel part of the family. They are just eccentric. Moni's husband Johnny, was a big gambler, and a dentist by trade. He loves to look in peoples mouths. ;) He has parkinsons and isn't supposed to drive. last year at this time he drove to Atlantic city and won over $100,000. He was supposed to be taking a nap. ;)

Moni tells dirty jokes and will lower her voice and cover her mouth with her hand to tell them. ;) They are in their 70's, and are both a little nutty. But their zest for life is contagious. I can't wait to see what happens this year!

Me, DH and the 2 girls are taking off for NEW YORK CITY. So we will have dinner reservations somewhere???, haven't locked that down yet.

I will probably cook a turkey before we go just so I can make my stuffing, oh and have my from scratch turkey gravy with mashed potatoes...mmmm stuffing and gravy...

Can leaving for Thanksgiving become a tradition?:D

For the first time in years I am not hosting Thanksgiving. It feels so weird! My shopping list seems so puny this year. :)

But I am in charge of all the baked good this year -- breads, muffins, pies, and cookies. We are going to my parents' house so it will be a family T-day of about 20 with sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc. Just a small group this year.

Have fun!! My sister and her son will be heading there for Christmas. Wish we were going!!!! I love New York at Christmas time.

To anyone making their first turkey dinner...Be sure to take out the bag of "parts" beforehand! I remember my sister's first year making a turkey. After she took it out of the oven, she called my mom to ask what "this bag of stuff" was inside! I'm wondering how she ever got it stuffed and in the oven before discovering it. We do rinse/wash out the inside first, right? LOL!

P.S. Wooooo hooo! This is my 2,000 post! :teeth:
