LilLil, I'm sure glad that Detroit has changed it's championship celebration policies! But......I'm still having trouble figuring out why ABC would be ticked at Jimmy Kimmel (personally I can't stand him, but.....) for making a joke about burning down Detroit, when that is what they used to do...The truth hurts, I guess...

Do they still set fires on Devil's Night??? (I've been gone a long, long time...)

Did people forget about the riots in LA?

Detroit has not had riots since 1967 (race riots). Seeing as I remember the LA riots, they must have been more recent.

So, the Tigers have won (I believe) 2 World Series since then, the Wings have won [/bold]3[bold] cups and the Pistons have won 3 championships. When can we drop teh Detroit riots?

And, please forgive the rant, what's up with the media being SOOOOOO anti-Pistons? After losing game 2 in LA, they said the Pistons would not be able to get their momentum back. After game 4, they're saying that if teh Lakers take the next one, they'll take it all? What happened to the fact that no team has come back from a 3 to 1 deficit? Thanks for lettign me vent. I'm tired of Detroit getting a bad wrap.

The media's script says the Lakers are supposed to win it all. They just didn't check with the Pistons first! You can't put four superstars on a team and expect them to play nice (or play well, I guess). Too many egos involved. I love to see the underdog win!!

I'm so sorry if I hurt your feelings about Detroit. I DO remember the race riots, I lived in the suburbs and I was 9 years old when they had the race riots. My neighbor was in a Detroit hospital and could look out her room at what was going on below. It was a sad moment in history for everyone.

Those are not the riots I was inquiring about. I wanted to know if the kind of thing that happened when the Tigers won the World Series and there was rioting, and when the other sports event (can't remember what it was...) is being repeated...THIS is the ODD phenomenon that I was curious about..Celebrating by wreaking havoc. I know it's not just in Detroit, but since I am from the area, it interests me. So Sorry....I'll stop now..... From what I remember, Detroit deserves every bad rap it gets...Like I said, Detroit ain't for sissies....
