"Go Find a Table and I'll wait in line"

Do you sit at Quick Service Tables without having your food?

I think it depends on how busy the restaurant is. I know I would never be comfortable hanging out for an extended period of time if I saw people with trays of food looking for a place to sit.

I agree. I would feel awful watching people wander around looking for a place to eat while I just sat there. And that’s why I also can’t occupy a table while the rest of my family is in line.

I would feel compelled to offer someone with food the table since I wasn’t using it yet. To me, it just seems like a basic act of kindness that anyone would do without even thinking about it.

But I guess I am mistaken because many of the comments on this thread seem to be implying that they think people who don’t/can’t hoard a table are morons who deserve to have no place to eat.

No individual who is not involved in (Disney) restaurant management has the authority to determine this is not a problem. Those of us directly affected agree it is a problem.

I would say the very fact that Disney only allows people with food to sit at a table when the parks are busy shows there is a problem. And that the people who sit before they have food are the ones causing the problem.[/QUOTE]

I think I’ve mentioned this before, but in a different thread....not once on our 12 day stay over Christmas did we see CM’s stop people from getting seats at any time of the day in any counter service locations. It’s the first time I have not seen it done during the last week of December in the more popular Counter service locations. I really think it’s due to mobile ordering.

This thread is really...eye opening to me. I didn't realize that people looked down on this. To us it's just an efficient use of time to send someone to look for a table if it's busy. We're clumsy and the last thing we should be doing is standing in people's ways with trays of food and un-lidded drinks looking for a table. It's much better to have somewhere to walk to and immediately set the trays down. We strictly mobile ordered this trip so the time difference between finding an open table and having our food ready was about 30 seconds to a minute.

It is not a problem if it is done at slower times of the day. But at peak times, it is inconsiderate. I have nothing against the practice of this, just the timing. People who have food that is getting cold should be able to sit and eat. And it is the same for those who linger after they are done during this time, please eat and leave so others can enjoy their meal. We are really only talking about a couple of hours a day for most of the year.

So people who have finished their meal(s) and are just hanging at the table. What is a reasonable amount of time for them to vacate the table?

If the restaurant is crowded and there are people wandering around with trays of food looking for a spot you need to get moving immediately. When you're done, leave.

There are places to lounge around outside of the restaurants.

We save seats because if we are paying for food we expect a place to sit.
EVERYONE expects a place to eat when they order food at a restaurant. If you are saving a table for your family when it's busy you are denying someone THAT TABLE even though they already have their food and are ready to eat. And yes, I think that the person who has their food already is entitled to a table to eat that food over someone who is saving a table so their family will eventually have a place to eat. I have walked up to a table at Peco's Bills and was *just* beaten to it by a table hoarder who pointedly ignored me and my tray of food as they settled themselves in. I found somewhere else to eat but it was difficult.

This attitude comes across that you are a tad more entitled than someone saving a seat for someone ordering the food. Maybe I read it wrong and if I did I apologize.
He already had his food, but nowhere to sit and eat it specifically and solely because of table hoarding. His request was completely reasonable and have options. I have returned my food because there was nowhere to sit and eat.
We save seats because if we are paying for food we expect a place to sit.
Customers who have already paid for and obtained their food expect a place to sit.
Only way to guarantee a seat during busy time is have a family member save one.
Incorrect.
Before reading this thread I didn’t know this bothered people. I have always assumed everyone does it so they know they will get a seat. I guess I was wrong.
Not everybody can.
eta: but every party can
  • Enter line
  • Wait in line
  • Order
  • Pay
  • Get food
  • Proceed to table
  • Eat.

I’ve seen people *think* there’s no TM and walk past me to go sit down. I’ve generally then seen the TM come back, from having found a spot for me or whoever is in front of me in line, and tell the wandering family that they need to wait in the line. And then the first in line has been shown to the spot.

In other words, I’ve never seen it be free seating (apart from in the early morning when you’ve told them you want to sit outside on the deck), but I’ve seen people *think* it’s free seating and those of us in line are apparently invisible to them.
Yeah no there's no *thinking* there's no TM. There just wasn't a TM. We had one back in 2011 directing people at Three Broomsticks and nadda in 2017.

I respect that for you you've never seen it to be free seating but trust me...or don't...I have experienced and others have too. It's ok. I've gotten used to the fact that people seem to not believe me when I say that I've experienced it and others have too for no policing at Satu'li Canteen or Three Broomsticks :D though I respectfully must say this is the first time someone commented that I must just have missed the TM, though you did say it kindly I might add. I just wish I was aware I would get such pushback so I could have taken a picture for the ultimate proof :-). Sadly I just didn't think about that at the time :D:D.

We were there right after Christmas and saw the same thing. I was very surprised that there were no CMs handling the dining rooms. These situations raise stress levels and I seriously believe they will lead to tense situations and arguments between guests. The parks are crowded and people are hungry and just want to eat. They just dropped $75 for lunch and it’s getting cold while they stand around with no where to eat. Meanwhile a quarter of the tables just have one person sitting at them looking at their phone. I won’t put myself through that anymore.

You really can avoid the madness. Just eat when it opens for lunch or later in the day. It can be quite relaxing, enjoyable and stress free. :)

Disney should just make all the counter service seating long, long picnic tables with benches. Then we can all smoosh and squeeze on to the benches together and become lifelong friends! :grouphug:

Well, the poll says that 57 people out of 100 table save and not 99 out of 100. But if it makes you feel better that 99 out of 100 people save tables, knock yourself out.
On here thats the poll. Thats not a real reflection of what actually happens. Just look next time...EVERYONE holds a table. Its s non issue. Complete non issue.
Now we have table saving police....talk about a nanny state...lol I think the anti table saving people used to be hall monitors..
Folks ..just save the table like you always have...seriously..
The real problem is the folks that don't save a table.....they gum everything up. Like left lane slow drivers...

Me and my sister eat a lot faster than our parents, maybe up to 15 minutes faster depending on what everyone is eating.
So, the majority would find it rude that we sat sat there waiting for them, because after all, we're sitting there without food for a good few minutes...

Yes. The majority of us would find it rude that you sat and waited with your parents at the table while they were still eating. We would expect you to get up and leave, certainly.
