Gnomies Gone Wild

Stacy,

So sorry about your uncle, your craptastic week and top of it all a Vampire Diaries rerun and itunes woes.

I'll tell you what I keep telling myself... it HAS to get better.

Right?? :flower3:

Katie - glad to hear things went well.

CP- make any major purchases today? ;)

Thanks C:hug: You're right! That's the attitude I need to get back!

Speaking of C (who I know is going), but when are the other October people going? I've figured that if I don't move out, I can afford to go again in September/October!

Stace, Vampire Diaries isn't back on until the end of March! It's so unfair. Pffft. Amy Tan did Joy Luck Club, right? I think I might skip Peony in Love then...I couldn't take the ending of Shanghai Girls. I dunno.

I just finished Garden Spells, such a quick easy read. I really loved it.

Katie, glad to hear things went well with your Mom.

Well I keep telling myself that, Stacy... I'm a ways from actually believing it at the moment.

My Oct dates are 10/14-10/23, I think... or something close to that.

LL with more book recommendations! You are giving me quite a list!! I really need to get a library card.

The end of MARCH?!?!?! Don't they know women need their vampire boy fix?!?! It just came back from winter hiatus like, last week! What nonsense!

I like Peony in Love but the ending is rather...um, not my fave! (don't want to spoil it if you do decide to read it!) Amy Tan did Joy Luck Club, her Saving Fish From Drowning is pretty good and so is the Hundred Secret Senses. I'm glad you liked Garden Spells. I loved Practical Magic so I just couldn't help but be biased. I've read it a few times. I need to find a new book that I just love to get me back into reading as much as I normally do. I'm in a book funk:upsidedow

Katie, glad to hear your mom is doing well!

Stace, I can totally relate to the less-than-stellar week -- perhaps the stars weren't aligned correctly or something.

LL, wasn't Garden Spells just precious? I have already given up on Snow Flower and the Secret Fan. I am now reading the second in a series for young adults set in Victorian times and involving magic and such. The first one is called A Great and Terrible Beauty and the one I am reading right now is called Rebel Angels. They are really good.

C, no major purchases today. You know me -- it will take me awhile to work up the nerve (if I ever do).

Jen, I know what you mean about the Less Talking More Working thing -- I really have had to get onto my students about that this week -- they have been sooo chatty!

I'm not. I'm keeping track of how many books I read this year and Garden Spells was my 16th!

Have you read any by Diane Chamberlain? I've been on a big kick of her lately. Also, just finished Kristin Hannah's Winter Garden...an EXCELLENT book. It's the kind of book that you don't want to end and that you keep thinking about days after you have finished reading it. I think you would like it.

C, I'd be lost without my library card...or living in a cardboard box.

CP, I forgot to mention that I got your book package! Thanks!

I know I always say the same thing C! We can just keep telling each other and maybe eventually it will sink in deep enough!

I was thinking of going for my stupid birthday...the dreaded 2-9:scared1:

Oh and have you read Jane Green? I like her books, most of them are set in London. Really quirky with a great sense of humor in most of them. :thumbsup2

I loved loved Garden Spells. I have the Sugar Queen to start next. I have A Great and Terrible Beauty and I couldn't get into but it's on my list to start again someday. I have to be in the right mood for that kind of book if that makes sense.

I think you're right Jackie! The stars are out of whack! As for the chatty students, I think it's the winter cabin fever/spring fever attack! All of our students at work haven't been to keen on actually doing their jobs. They just stand around chatting with each other!

I second the recommendation of Libba Bray's books! They are great! I would love to make them into films! I guess I'll just be the only Lisa See fan. However, this could be because I still think I lived in Ancient China in a past life!:rolleyes1

You will probably read The Sugar Queen just as quickly -- I think I finished it in a day and a half.

Enjoy the two Tasha Alexanders!

I know exactly what you mean about being in the right mood -- that's why even though Rebel Angels has been out for five years, I just now checked it out from the library. :rotfl:

Yep! At school, they just sit and chat!

I think my problem with Snow Flower and the Secret Fan is that I just don't have any background knowledge on China really -- I feel so lost.

I have already been sucked into Rebel Angels -- there's a third one, too, isn't there?

There is a third - The Sweet Far Thing. I was really lucky and got a signed copy! I was working at the bookstore at the time and Random House (the Canadian publisher) sent me a signed ARC!

I don't have any background knowledge on China either really. I just have always enjoyed the topic, found the culture interesting. And I have very very very bad feet. And I have birthmarks on both of my feet. Some people think that your birthmarks are from how you've died in a previous life. My theory is that I died from infection, having my feet bound in old Chinese times! Birthmarks, flat feet, all toes have been broken, both ankles, wide feet, heel spurs, and calcium buildup on the side of my right foot! Call me crazy I know...Just a theory....:rolleyes1 Would you like my "Michael Jackson was an alien" theory?:rotfl2:

I hate my MF'ing job. :headache: Just needed to share.

Oh C...:hug::hug::hug: I understand. We should form a support group. I certainly didn't leave mine with a smile today. Remember, things can only get better!:goodvibes remember, you will win the lottery and become independantly wealthy!:thumbsup2

:hug::grouphug::hug:

I, for one would LOVE to hear the Michael Jackson alien theory. :rolleyes1

Well, let me tell you Leslie! I think that is a very Men In Black thing. If you remember, at one point in the movie, Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith are in the car -
Will Smith: "You do know Elvis is dead don't you?"
Tommy Lee Jones "Elvis is not dead he just went home."
Well, I think it's close! I think Michael Jackson was an alien. And he was originally put on the planet in a child's body. But since it wasn't a real human body, it started to change and sort of decompose while he was in it. That's why as he got older, he got stranger and stranger looking! His alien disguise was becoming too old and couldn't hold up to his lifestyle! I also think his alien mind got wrapped up in certain aspects of human life (i.e. childhood, music and dance) and couldn't comprehend all of it, and it was just overwhelming! So he came off as a kind of strange dude....and that's also how he was so original, because he used his alien homelife as inspiration and taught us all new musical stylings! Also how he got his dance moves (hello?! The moonwalk!? He liked outerspace!). And since he died at an even-numbered age (50), I think that's how long his assignment was, or how long his human disguise was designed to last! And as for his higher speaking voice, I am contemplating that the actual alien was a woman-being...

I know, it's very very odd....:rolleyes1 But it just all seems to add up! :rotfl:Maybe it's the same with several of our musical icons over the years! (How else could Keith Richards still be rolling along!?:confused3:rotfl: ) Or maybe it's like Charlaine Harris did with Elvis, maybe he's a vampire.

I know I know I know....please don't shun me as a super oddball! :) I have a very wild imagination!

Wow! That is quite a detailed theory! I love it!! :lmao: You do have a great imagination. You should think about writing stories. :)

So very, very thankful it is Friday. I am hoping I can make it through but the day is going to be rough. :sad2:

:grouphug: Oh no my dear gnomies :grouphug:

Sounds like a craptastic week all around. I am wishing you all a speedy Friday. I think we should all grab an alcoholic drink tonight and have a chat!! :thumbsup2
