Been a rough week- DD was dx'd with celiac and Type 1 diabetes. She is a trooper- but literally her biggest fear is that she can't have Mickey Waffles in Disney World (oh, to be 7!)

I remember at BOG 2 years ago the allergy waffle was a Van's waffle :/. Has anyone gotten real gluten free Mickey Waffles recently? If so where? We will be staying at the Poly. We have bfast reservations at Garden Grill, Tusker House, and 1900 PF. Sigh.

Thank you!

I know they had some at AoA QS so I am pretty sure you can get them a lot of places. Disney really tries to help allergy people feel more normal.

I've had gf Mickey waffles at Ohana and Tusker House.

Sorry to hear of your dd's diagnoses. I remember well the adjustment period when I first started having to eat gf. Hang in there! It gets easier and as the previous pp mentioned, Disney does a lot for us. I can eat better in WDW with no worries and much easier than finding safe gf restaurants near me.

You might find this site helpful. https://www.glutenfreedairyfreewdw.com/menus/
Table service restaurants seem to be very good handling gluten free diets. Be sure to include that information when you make reservations. It’s under additional options or something when you are making a reservation, sorry, can’t remember. This way they’ll have an allergy menu for you when you are seated.

I had them at Sports, at Kona (with the strawberry sauce that goes with Tonga Toast), and at Boma!

She doesn't usually have menus, but I really like fairytalefoodie.com for reviews of gluten-free foods and stuff. And she updates regularly.

Ask to speak to a chef everywhere you go even Quick Service.

She will be able to have GF Mickey Waffles for sure but it's important to speak to a chef.

thank you everyone, i will tell her and call to add the note to our dining reservations. i saw that Mickey bars, dole whips, and popcorn are GF too so DD just might like this vacation.... :thanks:

Just a tip, you can also order gluten free churros at nomad lounge in AK if you are going there, and 50’s prime time has a pretty fantastic GF s’mores dessert. Oh, and Kona does the pineapple macadamia nut pancakes GF as well and they’ve made me GF Tonga toast before too :thumbsup2

We were able to get gluten free Mickey waffles at both Garden Grill and Tusker House in May. Tusker House also provided a GF chocolate muffin. Garden Grill may also have a variety of pastries but we asked to only get the waffles.

I would just be careful - and not trying to discourage you - gluten free often means higher carbs, depending on what they substitute the flour with. The typical substitutes, like tapioca flour and rice flour, can have a glycemic index close to or greater than regular flour. Restaurants will also often bump up the sugar content to offset the flavour difference from "normal" food. This could obviously be a problem with someone with Type 1 diabetes, and you just need to be prepared for this.

"Gluten free" is a designation that is meant to be used by those diagnosed with celiac disease or a gluten sensitivity. Your daughter unfortunately has a combination of challenges that might require a more in depth analysis.

You might already be aware of this, so I am not trying to be condescending. Just wanted to mention it, just in case you were not aware.

Son had "allergy free" mickey waffles at Crystal Palace for breakfast. He broke out, had to get Benadryl from first aid and go back to the hotel for most of the day.
The chef blamed it on "new allergies" but we had just taken him for tests prior. Most likely cross-contamination.
We have taken him many times to Disney and they have been great but our one major issue was specifically with mickey waffles.

Of course! I was not meaning to minimize the T1D dx- I am more familiar with that as my brother had it (still does) and I am relatively comfortable navigating that. Celiac is uncharted territory though. Everything on this trip will be a challenge- the extra exercise, excitement, and sugar will wreak havoc on her #s I'm sure. Her big concern was the waffles though :)

In the past year or two, we’ve been able to get gf Mickey waffles anywhere they have regular Mickey waffles. Enjoy!

HUGS!!!! My best friend's 7-yr-old also has T1D, Celiac, & EOE and they've been to Disney twice with her since she was diagnosed. My sister has Celiac & uses https://www.glutenfreedairyfreewdw.com/allergy-mickey-waffle-locations/ to pre-plan. According to their site, all of the TS restaurants you listed and Captain Cook's at the Poly have Mickey waffles. :)

Once we're there, the staff is always AMAZING! Our favorite Celiac chef is TJ at the TRAIL'S END. He does amazing things with his gluten-free magic! Best wishes!!

ETA: I meant Trail's End, not Whispering Canyon! My brain is broken! ;)

Be Our Guest still only has Van's waffles as their allergy waffle. Crystal Palace had Van's for a long time but finally made the switch to Mickey Waffles for allergies with the past year or so.
