I am coming out of lurkerdom to post this question.

Does anyone have any experiences with the All-Star Music food court and GF-options? I have read many reviews that Pop Century has a dedicated gluten-free waffle maker, and I would LOVE to be able to have Mickey waffles this trip! I have no other restrictions other than the gluten, if that makes a difference.

Even though this is my first post, you all have been so wonderful in helping me plan this trip (I was diagnosed with non-Celiac gluten intolerance in February). As an aside, I am also hard-of-hearing with a BAHA, so this board has come in handy more than once.

While I haven't eaten at any of the AS resorts, I do feel pretty confident that at least every value and moderate resort CS has a dedicated gluten free Mickey waffle maker. I'm not sure about the deluxes as I've only asked for them (and got them) at SSR (when I stay at Poly I stay CL so I get my breakfast from the lounge) and I don't believe they're available at the Crescent Lake resort CS locations.

Short version of the answer: I'm 99.9% sure that you can get gluten free Mickey waffles at all of the AS resorts.

I should actually qualify my response a bit more. I'm not sure if Pepper Market at CSR has Mickey waffles as they're not owned by Disney. The rest of the value and moderates I'm 99.9% sure of. I've gotten them at Pop, POFQ, POR and CBR and I've been assured by a chef at AoA that we'll be able to get them there next month.

As is often with these threads, I am the "bad guy"...............:sad1:

At Movies last month, no sign of or offer of gluten free waffles. I was told at Movies and Music, they don't have dedicated equipment. With the removal of the allergy free grab and go area from the All Stars, your best bet value wise will be AOA.

Are you kidding me?!?!?! What are they thinking?!?!?!?! I don't understand what is going through the minds of people making these decisions.

Rest assured, you're not the bad guy. You're the messenger and it's important for the message to be received. Whomever is making these kinds of stupid decisions is the bad guy. Is sure hope that if people ask Special Diets about this that they at least give an honest straight answer. I'm crossing the AS resorts off my list until I hear that this has changed.

I am not sure Special Diets knew. They did not know about the removal of the G n G.

Makes me wonder if a chef's gone rogue and said to heck with those annoying allergy guests.......

My personal opinion-Management.

The managers I spoke with at Allstar all treated me as a bother.

I don't know if it is the "pretend" allergies, I don't know if it is the "demand" allergies or what-but several people at WDW have it in their heads that we are more trouble than we are worth.

We had a trip booked for later this year to Movies (with dining). I cancelled it. It is not worth the aggravation to me.

I know lots of people will post of the "wonderful" service they had at WDW. And I am sure people do. I am a little "closer" to the situation and know things used to be "better".

Well, it is too late to change my reservations, so I hope that they can be accommodating. I have heard such good things about the parks, but not so much about the resorts.

I am disappointed in the change in procedures though. From what I understand, you used to be able to get a number of attachments from Special Diets with a list of gluten free options at all of the counter-service restaurants and snack carts, and now that isn't available.

Oh well, I will let you know what happens!

Looking forward to hearing about your experience Aura.

Livndisney, I totally know what you mean about how it used to be better. I don't go nearly as often as you do but I go enough to have seen the difference. I was ready to cancel next month's trip when I was dealing with Special Diets before our February trip. I actually was very surprised by just how different our experience was even in the CL lounge when the chef in the Kona kitchen (he takes care of breakfast foods for CL guests) and the chef in the lounge itself (she takes care of evening foods) weren't there. It really doesn't make a huge difference and our timing was unfortunately such that we hit a few of their days off and the difference was glaring. I'm remaining very hopeful for our upcoming trip just because the chef at FW was so wonderful when we spoke on the phone & via email plus I've had several experiences with the chef I'm working with at AoA and we'll be eating probably at least half our meals under their care. We'll stick to some basics like chicken tenders or eating at Sunshine Seasons when in the parks. I'll definitely fill everybody in when we get back. It's sad though that there do seem to be more chefs and managers these days who just don't care of think that we're making up problems. I know people think that we're getting these great custom meals but they don't seem to get that we'd gladly just run in somewhere, get a fast meal made off the line and leave if we could. I'm not a fan of our 2 hour meals or waiting 20+ minutes to get our CS food served and not being able to eat so many of those delectable looking dishes. I'm so grateful for the many chefs who do still care.

I can't speak for the AS resorts, but at POP they do not publicize the gluten free stuff they offer, however I always just asked for the chef and ALL 3 I dealt with were AMAZING!!!!! (we were there for 8 days) My first day, I went in and asked the first chef (head chef) what I would be able to eat and he said " what do you want?" I was like, well I don't know, what kind of GF stuff do you have, he said" you name, we will make it" I could NOT have asked for better service from Pop. It was so good that we chose to go back to to POP to eat most meals.

I think that the food area at the AS resorts are smaller with less options then POP & AOA - is there any way you could just change resorts????

Well, we are finally home after a WONDERFUL two weeks in Florida!

I am planning on writing detailed dining reviews (with pictures) of my gluten free experiences on the Disney Dream and at Walt Disney World. I did want to share my experiences at the ASM food court.

I was a little hesitant after hearing the stories on the board, but the first day I went to the Specialty breakfast station and asked for the chef. Manny came out quickly and we discussed my allergy. He said that the omelettes, scrambled eggs and breakfast potatoes were fine, as was the bacon, so if I wanted to order any of those, I didn't need to do anything special. He also let me know that he could make me waffles, pancakes or french toast if I wanted those things. Most days I had the eggs, but I did get a wonderful tray of Mickey waffles one of the days of my trip.

I only had one lunch at ASM, and again the chef was helpful. I really wanted the nachos, and they were safe, with the shredded cheese instead of the cheese sauce, and no sour cream. I also got a package of the small Enjoy Life soft chocolate chip cookies (which were good).

All in all, I had very good experiences at the food court at ASM (and throughout Disney).

I stayed at sports last year and they had a dedicated gf waffle maker. It was the same manager each morning and she was super sweet and didn't act like I was a hassle at all!
