Does anyone take this? I am 56 (actually one week shy of 57) and started having some knee joint pain. This was recommended to me and I was wondering any good or bad about it.:confused3 Also omega 3 fish oil or krill oil and vitamin D3. Thanks Boots.

My wife is the same age as you (and a native of East TN :)), and started this three weeks ago. She says it has made a big improvement, in both her hips and knees.

I would be interested to here more info about this.

I have pain in all my large joints....I'm only 38 and have had this since I was about 32. I have been to 6 doctors, and numerous different physiotherapist, althetic therapists etc. Each tells me something different. First they thought I had Lupis and it went from there to everything from Arthritis to Fybromyalgia. Which is what they have left me with but regardless the joints hurt. I have often thought about G, C & MSM but didn't know enough about it so I never got around to trying it. I do know that each is for a different thing and that the combo pill may not be the right thing for me.

It's nice to here from people that use it and know what it's for rather than just read up on it. I think you get a little bit different info that way.

I'm a big fan of gluccosamine/chondrotin. I've been taking it for several years and I'm now 51. I am a dedicated walker and was starting to feel achy knees. Since I've been taking it, no more knee aches! I've recommended this to several other women and they, too, felt relief in their knees. I take it usually 5 days a week(usually take 2 a day, not 3 as recommended). They can be expensive, but I try to buy it when it's buy 1/get 1 free. Also, check for coupons online and shop your box store(BJ's,Costco)for good deals. I like the Move Free brand myself.

(I suppose I could also mention that our older cat is on a feline formulation, though it is indeed the same active ingredients. Her mobility has improved markedly.)

If I take this will I be able to jump from the floor to the kitchen counter?;)

I have lower back pain. Not sure what is causing it. I do have arthritis in my cervical spine as diagnosed by an x-ray, so am just guessing my lower back pain may be the same.

Anyways, I started taking a glucosamine/chondroitin suppliment that I ordered off of HSN, an Andrew Lessman product. It is supposed to take a few weeks to really get the desired results, but the times I have stopped and then restarted, I noticed great results the next day. Andrew's suppliments are a little on the pricey side, but they are worth every penny that I spend on them:thumbsup2!!

I have several patients who take or who have tried these, individually or in combination. From their experiences, it seems that half of them think it works, half of them don't. I would also say that people who take the form combined seem to see better results. (instead of just Glucosamine)

It takes up to 6 weeks to see the effects! As it is so expensive, I think this turns a lot of people off to it.

There is no solid research that says it works (only what companies producing it put out there, and I'd rather see nonpartisan research) :surfweb:

Plus, maybe I'm biased because I hate the commercials. (Rebuild cartilage!)
Guess what! Our bodies rebuild cartilage everyday! Glucosamine/Chondroitin protects the cartilage we rebuild naturally.

All of that said, if it helps, take it. It doesn't look like it is hurting anyone (besides in the pocketbook). Anything that decreases joint pain and gets people moving is a thing of beauty! :goodvibes

Hehe.... well I dunno about that, but our cat has been able to jump from the floor onto the couch, something she hadn't be able to do for a while.

I had read that glucosamine sulfate is better??? Is that true? I have been researching and heard this is better.

Glucosamine is the amino acid (?) that is of-interest. However, it needs to be formulated in order to be taken orally. So you'll see it packaged either as glucosamine sulfate or glucosamine hydrochloride. I'm not aware of any indication that one formulation is markedly more effective than the other. I believe most of the (inconclusive) studies on which assertions of efficacy are based happened to have been done with the glucosamine sulfate formulation, but that doesn't mean that the glucosamine hydrochloride wouldn't produce similar results.

I take just plain glucosamine. I have arthritis in my fingers. I have been taking it for years and the pain went away. It did take a few weeks/months to really work. But, my joints are no longer swollen and sore. I am only 42.

I do have the biginnings of arthitis in my lower back (as seen on x-ray), but that isn't what bothers me.

While I haven't taken them myself, add me to the group who has a cat taking glucosamine, chondroitin and MSM. It has worked wonders for him :)

My Mackey has arthritis and also has diabetic neuropathy. Before starting the supplements, he could barely walk three feet without stopping to rest. Additionally, he couldn't jump on the bed at night to sleep. He'd cry and I'd have to lift him up or down. Now he can walk from one end of the house to the other and is able to get on and off the bed without help!

I did some research initially, and many places say to double the recommended dosage in the beginning. In addition, if you miss a dose - it is recommended to double the dosage for several days.
