Curious if anyone knows how much these cost. Doubtful will buy them as it seems preposterous to spend that when I could get the same effect watching everyone else's change color. But thought I'd ask:confused3

LOL exactly. You pay for something you'll never see.

They do this in video games too. "Make your character look special for $5". Problem is, you never see your OWN character, only the other people do. So you pay the $5 and everyone else gets the enjoyment.

Let me add my unsolicited opinion on them. I have a DS-7 who is obsessed with "glowing" with the show so we have a DLR version and the WDW. Both are awful in my opinion, or at least made for adults not kids. Poor guy cannot keep either version on his head as they are both extremely top heavy and slip constantly no matter what we do. He, however, loves them and refuses to leave them behind so I guess they were worth it?

That's what I thought..I think Ill enjoy the view from everyone else's!

I'm definitely an adult (36) and I had a hard time keeping them on my head. The band doesn't feel very secure either so I kept having to push them back with my hand. It was more of a hassle than it was worth so I wound up just keeping them in the room rather than wearing them the last few days.

let me add a few cents of my own to the discussion.

I hadn't ever really pondered getting them, but on my last trip, it WAS Christmas time, and not only did Wishes work with them, but also the Osbourne lights. My best friend had met me there for a girl's weekend, and while we're both 35, they seemed fun.. the tipping point to buying them for us, though, was the coupon on the receipt from lunch.. we saved 20% on them, making them about 20 bucks a piece, and considering regular ears cost about 14 bucks, and if you want to personalize them it's a few more, we figured why not?!

So, we put them on as soon as it got dark, and yes, they were a bit heavy to wear... I ended up tying the chin strap up in my ponytail holder, she didn't seem to have any problems. We wore them THE ENTIRE NIGHT, starting on the boat from Epcot to DHS, then on multiple transportation to MK (it was christmas time!) and only took them off once we got inside Crystal Palace for dinner. Unfortunately we ate slowly, so we couldn't be outside for Wishes, but we did have them turned on, and occasionally they'd even pick up the signal inside and Glow with the Show from dinner. They were a TON OF FUN! Sometimes, when the show wasn't going on, we'd have the same color, sometimes they were different.. it was really fun!! They're not just for during the shows, they're for all night long. I'll be back in four weeks, and I'm actually planning on packing them, cause they were so much fun!

oh.. here were are at DHS, during a "show" so we've got the same color.

We were there before Christmas as well and it struck me how you would have more enjoyment watching others since you can't see your own. I have to say that we did totally enjoy watching them especially at the Osborne lights. It was fascinating and we found ourselves mezmerized by them sometimes. Whether it's worth buying them I can't say but it's definitely worth having OTHER people buying them just so you can watch.popcorn::

"Other people should buy them..."
- that is the problem.

I think they're cool. My daughter and I picked them up over New Years and wore them around at night.

If they were just random flashing lights on your head then I'd think they're OK but kind of dumb and would never buy them. Having them synch up with the show or each other or passing guests or doing different things on some rides is pretty cool to me.

That being said, the quote above is the problem. When we were there we saw maybe 2 dozen GWtS hats on Main Street for New Years Eve. It's enough to be be an oddity but doesn't show off what they can do at all. The promotion pictures/videos for them look really cool as it's a sea of synchronized lights doing all sorts of different patterns. The reality, unless it's picked up, is that you're one of a dozen folks watching the show with glowing ears and once in a while someone picks up, "Hey.. I think that guy's hat is synching with the show!"

So, to me, it's something that needs to reach a tipping point where enough people own them that the rest want to be part of it and that's not where it is.

I also noticed at least one guy who was annoyed that he had flashing lights (not mine) in his face for the memories presentation on the castle as well as the fireworks. So, in that sense, I don't think he was wrong but I also don't think that the person with the hat was wrong, either.

I'm going back down in a month or so but, based on the responses here, I suspect that not much has changed and that instead of a sea of GWtS lights being synch'd up, I'll see roughly the same dozen or so at the show and hear the same words, like, "I think those hats are synching up.."

It doesn't work at all if everyone takes the, "I can't see my own hat so why should I buy one?," attitude.

When I went in Jan, I think I saw 2 hats total. I don't even remember seeing them for sale anywhere. Unless they give them out for free again, I don't think there will ever be enough to really get the effect.

We went in January and looked everywhere for them. We were eventually told that the sold out and the new shipment was defective so they had to send them back. We were told that they were expected to re-release them in March. Not sure whether they did or not, but the kids think they are great so I know we will be buying them if they are available in July.

My DD desperately wants a pair of these. I told her she has to spend her own money on them and she's willing to do that. I hope they will be available when we go in May because it's the one thing she keeps talking about wanting to buy.

We bought a pair the night of Osborne Lights. I used my DVC or AP discount and got 10% off.
They weren't the most comfortable to wear, but once we got used to it, it was fine. We took turns wearing them.
I saw people just walking around EPCOT with them and I didn't have mine with me, but I thought "what a neat idea! Just wear them for the heck of it cause they're fun and make other people smile!"

So, for me, it's not all about if I can see them or not, heck, if we can spend $22 and get enough smiles from other guests and CM's that's an awesome feeling.

Also, $22 (again, with our discount) is like two drinks to us. So, big picture wise, not a big deal. Also, they can be used for future trips...

We'll be bringing them back on our trip next month and might even bring them to the 24 hour party to take turns wearing. :goodvibes

The Glow Ears should be available as it's being reported they will be synced to the Symphony in the Sky fireworks for SWW in DHS! :)

I'm obsessed with my Glow with the Show ears! I usually have my mom wear them though so I can watch them glow with the show! haha

.......... which is why you will never see crowds of people wearing them in the parks.

I was going to buy my daughter a pair at DLR last year and actually just forgot. I didn't see anyone else wearing them to even remind me to get some.

We were there during the holidays at which time they were promoting them heavily. I don't think I saw 10 people in the crowd wearing them. And this was during Wishes/Fireworks and Osborne Lights

We like ours and only wore them for MSEP and Wishes. We glanced at each other sometimes during the parade and fireworks to see what the ears were doing and compare how they were doing with other people's ears. We were just tickled by it. Now if I had to have photos or video of the parade and fireworks it wouldn't matter if I wore ears because I wouldn't see them; but as a family fun experience, it works for us.
Does anyone know if they will work at the rose garden wishes FP+ area? I know I'd see others ears by the castle, but we want to see our family's ears too and are considering a wishes FP+ for the less crowded sit on our blanket option.
