Giving up my room for Frances

We decided today to cancel our long weekend trip to WDW. We were heading down on Friday and staying through Monday. We weren't too concerned about the hurricane as we read the posts about how well Disney did with Charley, but then started thinking it would not really be fair of us to have a room at WDW when someone who lives in Florida could use the room to evacuate away from the storm. Even if the storm does do a direct hit on WDW, I believe those staying on property will have a very safe place to wait it out.
While we will miss our trip, we believe that we are doing the right thing. When I called earlier today about cancelling, the recorded message said there were no rooms available anywhere starting tonite, so I am sure whoever gets our room needs it more than we do right now.
Loads of pixie dust heading everyone's way in Florida! Stay safe!

I am trying to do the same thing, but Embassy Suites LBV is still not full on Friday night so they won't refund my netdirect rate. I knew it was non-refundable when I paid of course, but the circumstance are a bit extenuating so I called over the weekend and again on Monday and was assured that under the present circumstances, they would refund my money. Now they tell me to call back on Friday. I feel terrible because they are fully booked on Saturday and here I sit on a room I don't plan to use and someone else needs. They're charging more than $40 more per night now too (my rate was 84.50 and now it's 139 something). Not sure what they're thinking....

LKS,
Maybe you can put it out on ebay?????Or maybe even in a thread here given the unusual circumstances......
I think it's terrible that they won't give a refund ...they may not be sold out yet, but I'm sure they will in the next 24hrs.....

I called today and they cancelled it and are refunding my payment. So, if anyone needs a room on Saturday night in Orlando, there should now be one more available.

I think there was just a lot of miscommunication, because there was no quibbling today.

Belle 3 and LKS -

You all are doing the RIGHT THING!!!

Those poor folks down there are going to need every room they can get. I wish everyone would heed the advice and stay home.
