no, It is not TOM - so nothing to blame there either.

I'm SO tired of this. Why can't I lose?

I'm not losing inches either. hence my decision to leave curves. not worth 35 bucks a month to not lose any lbs OR inches!

I've been a failure all my life at most everything I try - this seems to be another HUGE failure for me.

I guess i have to give back my 5 lb clippie too

Sorry for the pity party - gonna crawl away and hide now.

I'm sorry you are feeling so down. We are not all one size fits all, and maybe Atkins just isn't the right plan for you. Have you been a yo yo dieter? I have, and my loss is slow compared to most. My body wants to hold onto its weight. You could be the same, and the right plan WILL work for you.

Good luck. Please don't give up. Even if you aren't seeing the results you want, you are still doing right by your body.

WHOA!! Back the pity party express back up because we don't allow that here!!!! :teeth:

I am sorry that you feel that your efforts have not been producing the results you want but please don't give up. I know you don't really want to give up or you would not have posted this here for us all to see. You knew we would try to stop you. We are selfish people and we don't like to lose people from our support group...we want them ALL!!!!! :)

I can sympathize with the "I'm a failure" thing because I tell that to myself all the time. I said it the past right before I quit and gained 30 more pounds before trying again. You know it is not productive but we still continue to do it to ourselves. I think that is one reason why I spend so much time here. WISHers are great people and they can really pump you up when you are doing the "I'm a failure" routine.

Lets look at this objectively. Maybe you just have not found the right plan for you. Atkins works wonderfully for many people but not for everyone...maybe it is just not the plan for you. I know it is not the plan for me and I would never do well on it. We are all individuals with bodies who react differently and lose weight differently. After years of looking for the best plan for me I found WW. I actually don't pay to go to meetings but I got the materials and do the plan on my own and use WISH for support. Maybe look into some other plans: WW, Slim Fast, South Beach, 6 week body makeover, etc. There are so many plan to choose from and there are always WISHers who are willing to help you learn about them.

As for Curves, well even though you have not seen numeric results I bet you are feeling better and are in better shape. Working out does build muscle mass and that could be part of the reason you are not losing weight very fast....you are just too good at working out. :p I personally could not justify the cost of Curves when there were things that worked for me at home. If you feel like Curves is not working then try something else...just go for walks in the neighborhood, try WATP, take up a sport or find an aerobics or aquasize class, etc.

PLEASE don't leave...I am weak and I need all of the support I can get from other WISHers and that INCLUDES you!!!!!

Robin,

Whoa! WHOA!!! Hold on, sweetie! First of all, none of us are on the WISH board because we've been so perfect all our lives - so remember, you're among friends. Take a deep breath and give yourself a big {{{{{HUG}}}}}!

Second - and this is the IMPORTANT PART - the only person who doesn't fail is the person who doesn't try. If you've failed all your life (which, by the way, might be just a teeny exaggeration?) then at least you're out there TRYING!

Not everyone has the gumption to try something new, like a healthier lifestyle. Not everyone has the chutzpa to publicly admit they're having a hard time, either. You've done both, which makes me think you must be a pretty remarkable and wonderful person.

Okay, so you're not losing weight - that is super frustrating, and can really bang away at your self-worth. But PLEASE don't quit exercising. Even if the scale doesn't show the results, you ARE doing a good thing for yourself every time you go. And that WILL pay off in the long run.

You're worth the effort. You deserve to be happy and healthy. Tell yourself that EVERY DAY!

Okay, I'm done. I'll be thinking of you today, and hoping that these blues will pass over soon. Take care of yourself - and please, keep trying!

Daisy;)

Robin - Don't give up!!!!

I'm sorry you feel so down right now - I haven't done Atkins, so I can't help you there, but I do go to Curves - how long have you been doing that? Are you doing anything else, like walking?

Please don't give up - any loss is a loss none the less.....hopefully some of the Atkins people can help you with that program.

OKAY- STOP IT! You are NOT quitting....there are no quitters here....there are only people who love and support one another and people fighting for a healthier life...and it is a fight! It is not easy and probably won't ever be easy...but it is so worth it...worth all the time and energy...worth the tears, the cravings, worth it all!!!!! Okay, I am done.... :)

Seriously, I totally understand how you feel. But please don't give up. Maybe Atkins is not the program for you.....I sincerely believe that all eating plans will work...just not for everyone. The key is finding the one that works for you......
I have dealt with weight issues all my life too....so I know how you feel, but I no one can feel what you are experiencing first hand...we can be here for you and try to motivate you the best we can! :)
I sincerely hope you will not give in....just take a deep breath and remember it is day by day....
drink all your water, get some exercise and things will start happening.....just find the plan that works for you and stick to it!
Good luck and I hope you come out of hiding! :)

Oh honey, don't give up. Some things take longer than others. It might be just that you trip will take a bit longer. Have you tried logging everything you eat and do on fitday.com? Perhaps if you analyzed on the site you might get some info to help you along. Please don't give up yet. We need you. Do this for you too!

Robin -
I think what people have already told you is so true! Maybe you need to try a new diet plan, maybe you need to add some walking or something else to curves, maybe you just new all new exercises all togehter - - - what ever it is just keep trying.

I feel like I am ready to give up everyday. It is such a struggle to stay the course with dieting. It is really easy to eat whatever I want and just sit around. However, I like me better knowing that I am trying. I lose slowly (only 1/2 pound a week as my average) but at least I am losing and I am not going to give up. Everyday I log onto the WISH to find my motivation and inspiration. You can find it here as well. I am sorry for everyone else who finds this dieting deal a daily stuggle like I do. It is hard but we all can do it. When I fall down, I get back up and try something new. So, I guess I am telling you - you have not failed, you fell!:p Get back up, brush yourself off and try again or try something new.

We all help each other here so don't leave this great group of friends!
Jen

:bounce: :bounce: :bounce: Hey there!:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Please don't give up! Ok, you can give up Curves if you want (because you can always take yourself out for a walk for free, and walking is GREAT exercise!!!) But don't give up on trying to lose/get in shape!

Have you tried WW before? It is really a great program! Not every program will work for everyone, so if Atkins isn't working for you maybe it's time to try something new.

My husband works with a guy who lost about 80 pounds over a year (maybe a year and a half). The only thing he did differently was eat 1/3 of what he normally ate (still ate all the same foods, just 1/3 of a serving) and starting walking for exercise. Now he is TOO thin and is trying to gain a few pounds. (Men, arrrgh!)

Good luck with whatever you decide to do, but please don't give up. Just because Atkins isn't working for you doesn't mean YOU are a failure! You just haven't found the right program yet!

Please accept some Tiggery hugs and know that all is well. You can do this, just believe in yourself!!!! I have been up and down with my weight ALL my life! My mother had me on a diet in the 6th grade, I lost 30 pounds and then put it all back on during high school. Then I graduated from HS, got a job and put on more weight, got tired of being overweight and did the unhealthy, "Hey, let's try not eating" thing and lost a bunch of weight! THEN I went on vacation and started to eat again and gained. Then I met a guy, got involved in a really nasty relationship with him for several years and ate my way through my misery!!! After we broke up, I tried WW and lost enough weight to look great at my friend's wedding. Since then I have been up and down and up and down many times, always getting frustrated as heck when I go up. So I decided that THIS IS THE LAST TIME I will need to lose weight. I am at goal now and still working out and using portion control to keep my calories in check and I feel great. If I can do this, you can too!!!!!!

Hang in there! I believe in you! xo

I gotta agree - Atkins is not for everybody - Curves is not for everybody. But - don't give up! You'll find a plan that will work for you! Hang in there.

{{{HUGS}}}} Hey, you are not a failure...I've travelled that road and it's no fun feeling that way. That is why nobody but my best friend and all of you are the only ones that know I'm committed to WW this time! I am not telling people at work because I don't want to fail again.

As far as Curves go, I joined and did lose some inches, but had to quit going due to dh's work schedule. I really think if you can start walking you will have as much success and it is cheaper over the long haul!

I am a lifetimer WW gone astray. I know what if feels like not to see that scale move downward for almost 2 years...yes, you read that right. (Find the thread about WW need motivation and read my tale of woe)

Now, pick yourself up, dust yourself off, stay out of the fridge and come back here to let us know how you are doing. :D :D

You can succeed!!!!

Hey there, don't give up! I'm a slow loser too. I sometimes wonder whether it's worth all that effort...exercising, dieting, to see only a lousy pound now and then. Everyone else eating what I'm eating seems to lose a LOT faster. But we're all different.

Lower your expectations a little...be happy with a small loss. Lots of small losses add up to a big loss. So it takes a while!

Keep at it. Drink lots of water. Ride a bike or take walks. Don't get weighed so often if it depresses you. See your doctor. Maybe he/she will have some advice for you.

LOL

I feel your pain! :( Sometimes it is so very, very hard to keep on trying, but like someone above said, I like myself better when I do try, and I know that if you give up, you won't feel even a little bit better.

Take some time to realize that this diet journey that you've decided to go on is the one less travelled--it's a lot easier to say "yes" to all the junk foods and to sit on the couch instead of exercising--you, instead, have picked a tougher road with ultimately a great reward. You can do this as long as you keep on keeping on. One snack, one meal, one healthy choice at a time!

Hang in there, Robin.

Hey, Robin! Are you still here? Please check in, even if you are still feeling just as forlorn as you were when you posted! We care and we want you to stick with it!!!!!!!! You are so worth it! Please just pop in to say hi and let us know how you are doing today, ok? :)

I appreciate all the comments - from the big hugs to the kicks in the butt... ;)

scale wise it isn't any better today - up another .5lb. :( but then - i did cheat for the first time yesterday (had a quarter pounder at McDonalds for lunch - but no fries etc - just the sandwich. While I thouroughly enjoyed the flavor, the white bun did seem a little pasty toward the end - lol. I guess this IS going to be a WOL for me.) And at the travel agent seminar for Frontier airlines last night, i kept it legal. (mexican food - just had a big taco salad without any "no-no's"

It was really tough at work - a co-worker who knows I am on Atkins (but who did not know of my set back) was running around ALL morning..."my sister just called and she lost 120 lbs in 3 months on Atkins" (BS! you can't lose 40 lbs a month even if you STARVE yourself!) "Anyone who does Atkins and follows it RIGHT WILL lose." It's almost as if the devil knew my weakness at that moment and tried to use her to make me more depressed.

I'm waiting for the book Protein Power from the library - to see if maybe it would be better for me. I do believe eating Low Carb is much healthier for me. I just have to figure out why I'm not losing.

I've tried Diet Center (are they even still around?), Weight Watchers (3 times!), low-fat, and fen-phen. meds were the only thing that worked, and, of course, as soon as I stoped taking them the weight came back on. (Glad I wasn't one who ended up with health problems from the phen-fen!)

Anyway - thanks again...I'm TRYING to hang in there.
Robin

Hi Robin - thanks for checking back in....

Aren't those Travel Industry things tough to get through?

:D (I'm a travel agent too)

I have a friend who did Protein Power and lost 60 lbs over 8-9 months. He really liked the book (I even tried the fruit shake - not bad tasting).

Please keep your chin up, and know that you can come to us here anytime.

I'm a very slow loser. I've restarted Atkins about five times and given up within two weeks because my scale (a digital one) stayed the same to the half pound. Every. Single. Day. (No, the scale was not broken)

I know everything I should be doing, and I do it. I didn't have a lot of bad habits to begin with (soda, snacking, etc), just bad genes. I've never been able to "yo yo diet" because that implies that at some point you *lose*. :)

What I'm saying is, I can understand your frustration. Especially watching other people lose so much weight so quickly on Atkins.

But I've stuck with it for a month this time (and this is a record for me). What makes it tolerable? I don't weigh myself. Ever. I've got some "reference jeans" and when I can get into them I'll weigh myself. So far my clothes are fitting better and I feel a lot better (sleep better, etc), but I know I haven't had the dramatic loss that most people who need to lose 50lb would have in the first month. I've just had to accept that my body is very, very good at holding on to the weight no matter what sort of tweaks I try. Everyone in my family is overweight.

I've just had to accept that it's going to be a long process. And it did take me a while before I was ready to accept that... but I seem to have gotten there this time. :)

Don't beat yourself up too much. :)

Hi Robin,
Glad you're still trying! I did the phen-fen for 6 months and lost weight before all the problems. I came out O.K. except for the weight gain after I stopped.

I'm doing Protein Power too. I've done it before and it worked, even though it was very slow for me. Others that were on it had a quicker weight loss.

This is pretty easy to follow if you can do low carbs. I find it not as strict as Adkins. The first time I kept a diary of everything I ate and how many grams of carbs and protein. I did it the whole six months I was on it the first time.

I tend to give up too quickly. This time I know it's for life (or until they come out with a harmless pill that will speed up my metabolism).
