Giving my kids a trip. Genie Plus?

It's been about 15 years. And in my opinion (sorry) Disney made planning tougher than it needs to be. And took all the fun out of it. I'm planned this for my kids for of all. And that's apparently a big no-no. Since I'm not going. I can't be associated anywhere; ANYWHERE, on the reservation. So I had to create it as as my son. Anyway....I digress. I am sending my son, d-i-l and grandson. He will be turning six during the trip this August (2024). They will be in the parks for three days and staying at ASM.
Fast Pass was easy. This whole Genie Plus/Lighting Lane thing has me confused as 💩 It looks like they could end up chasing attractions from one end of the park to the other depending on time slot availability. Or am I misunderstanding this?

Help with this GP/LL is what I'm looking for. You can thank my ADHD for the rambling intro. lol

Asking for insight into how useful GP/LL actually is. Are my kids going to be running from one end of the park to another to make the ride times? Fast Pass was a breeze. This looks like a mess imo. Thanks

Have they not been before?

That will have more of an impact on their trip than you not being there.

August 2024 is upon us, If you've prepaid for Resort/Tickets - they can handle the rest once there.

The new version of "lightening lanes" can be a help (LL Multi Pass). Maybe have them subscribe to Touring Plans and customize a day in what park they plan, it will help guide them and eliminate criss-crossing

It’s essentially paid FP+. It some ways it’s better than FP+ (you can always hold 3 and the tier system disappears after tapping into first attraction). In others it’s worse (paid now and you can only no rerides using the LL). There are some first-hand reports on this thread

Also, there are some good early reports on You Tube as well.

What are the odds, realistic speaking, to hold 3 top tier attractions? I would say almost zero, since people can make selections 3-7 days in advance.

They've never been there. I've got everything covered. I've personally never had issues with getting all my rides in. But I've had a couple of friends go who come back saying "we only got to ride a half dozen rides". I'd hate for that to happen on their first trip.

I just got back and had a really good experience with LLMP. The key for us at MK was to arrive before 9am and hit Jungle Cruise and Big Thunder Mountain in standby. I had little problem getting the rides I wanted 7 days in advance. I would suggest 1LL being 9:30am (giving some time for standby when there is no wait) and another being around 11am then the third can be later in the day. By 1-2pm things are getting built out for much later in the day. I would buy Tron instead of VQ- that line can take an hour. I would also make sure if they want Tiana's to make it a LLMP instead of VQ for the same reason. If they have multiple days in MK when they can make LLMP reservations start with their last day in MK- more of a chance for Tiana's.

They should have a must do list and work from that, if they want to buy LLMP. I miss the original FP, but this latest system is pretty good.

Just to clarify... Genie+ doesn't exist anymore. So if you are looking at Genie+ (G+) info -- walk away and ignore that.

It's now Lightning Lane Multi-Pass (LLMP) and Lightning Lane Single-Pass (LLSP) and you'll want to look at that info. Very similar to the former FastPass+. Unless the trip is a total surprise up until the last minute, I'd let your son/DIL manage it - maybe give them a gift card to pay for it if that's your intention.

Actually pretty high, but they would be built out too late in the day. Then you can't use it for anything else. I tried a theory of having 2 LL's late in the day and working off one, but I thought it was too restrictive. Using rope drop we were able to ride some of the tier 1 with little wait and got to ride them again on the LL late that night.

So it is more work (waking up earlier and rope dropping ) than genie plus, and more restrictive, for the same price. I really don't see any major advantages over genie plus

I didn't have to wake up at 7am- so I slept in, unlike Genie+. Not more restrictive. No 2 hour wait time, you can hold 3 simultaneously. I thought it was less work, because I had one day that I had to wake up and make all the reservations for my trip. It's not perfect. I ended up canceling an ADR because it wasn't working out, but it wasn't bad either.

We went to HS pretty late one day and still rode all the rides we wanted to. It wasn't every ride but we rode 5 and left early.

Also, I think it’s good to set realistic expectations that you will not be able to see/do everything. I’ve been dozens of times over the last 30 years and still haven’t seen everything.

What a great gift. If they have never been, are w/ a 6 yo and you paid for the trip, they should not worry about what they don't get to do. But, should just savor in what they do get to do. Don't you worry about it. Let them settle in to their touring style and I am sure they will enjoy it. Besides, if they do it all, then they will have no reason to return year after year, like the rest of us.

Thanks. They weren't worried. I just wanted the best experience lol. They're home and had a really nice trip
