We're going for the first time in Jan and I've learned alot of useful tips from this board but I'd like to add a few.
I agree about eating breakfast in your room and booking later for breakfast character meals so they're more like brunch. But I was looking at the menu's of some of the Disney restaurants and I noticed that the same item was as much as $5 dollars more for Dinner then it was at Lunch. We decided to do the restaurants at Lunch and hopefully have a nice break during our park visit (none of us like the idea of taking a midday break at the hotel since we're already on short hours) Afterwards we'll order take out at the hotel for about a 25 dollar savings on our evening meal. (I found some great coupons on the Pizza Hut site for the Orlando area).
We're flying in from Canada and unless you've booked extra hotel time to visit the other parks (you need a day at least for each) I suggest dropping the rental car. Unless you are staying onsite Parking fees are $8 a day ontop of whatever you are paying to rent the car
On our first day I'm taking a taxi from the hotel to the nearest super Walmart and buying breakfast food, snacks (especially for those in the middle of the line I'm really really hungery Mom! momments), sand toys (for our cruise part of the trip ... we're doing land and sea), pillowcases (for the cruise as well), whatever we forgot to pack, bottled water, crystal light, lipton cold brew iced tea bags, juice boxes, and whatever else I just haven't thought of yet that was too bulky or just not allowed on the plane. After that one trip all the transportation is covered by our Disney package.
Maybe check out the DVC rental board here. You might be able to save a bundle there.
hope I helpd
