1,000,000 people already signed up, so the promotion ends today. Now what?

Wow that was fast! My DS and family just registered on Saturday! DH and I did our volunteer work in January.

I am surprised that Disney didn't continue it on. They certainly have promoted it. I got the planning video for a DFriend and it's the first thing that's mentioned, first the Give a Day and then What will you celebrate!

I just got my tickets yesterday! I'm not sure what day we'll be going but once they email us the tickets they can't take them back, right?

:headache: They never seemed to have any opportunities in our area that my kids could do with me. The closest was over an hour and a half drive away.

I work for a non-profit, and my supervisor said that she wanted to sign them up as participants. However, she said that Disney made the organizations jump through so many hoops, they just gave up. And I'm so disappointed this has already ended. Initially, it was supposed to be for the entire year, and since I work during tax season, I was planning to sign up and volunteer after April 15th. Had I known it was going to end now, I would have found a way to squeeze in my volunteer work earlier. Darn!

I signed up to do the pillowcase project for myself and son since it didn't involve going somewhere. It did cost us though for the fabric, but will be a fun project. We have until April 15th to each sew 5 pillowcases and mail them in ( I can deliver them also since it's only about 30 minutes from us). I'm glad I signed up when I did!---Kathy

Are they going to cancel all their TV spots now? What are they going to promote for the next 9 months?

I signed up in late December to be notified of any events in/near San Diego and never received a single opportunity. :(

Wow, DH & I signed up then end of Feb and our volunteer times are later this month. Looks like we just made it. We'll be upgrading ours to DL APs later this year.

I just signed up 2 days ago. I am really surprised it ended without any notice. THey messed up my registration and one of the 4 I registered did not get signed up. I am trying to get it fixed.

Actually the website said: "The program begins January 1, 2010 and continues until tickets are distributed or December 15, 2010, whichever occurs first".

I don't think they had any idea they would get the one million this quickly.

We too had the same problems with location. Until something came up for April. So I signed up both Jess and I, back in January, and then talked to the woman where we were volunteering. She said it was too early to set the schedule, to wait, and it would be all good. SO, yesterday, she gives us dates, and I go to the site to enter the info, and it would not let me! Said that my email was not on file, yet, they sent me the information to that email? She said she also submitted on her end, and only ONE persons name came through, and she needed about 40 people :confused3 SO she is making some calls to find out what the deal is. Funny thing, we do not want tickets, we wanted the mickey pins/hat and fp's, as we already have APs....Sadly, I think Disney dropped the ball with this. From the moment the website opened and it crashed, to now ending 9 months early. They should have seen that in this economy, with a lot of people not working, more people would sign up....SO now what for the rest of the year?

I find it funny, if indeed this is true, that they wouldn't expect this to happen? People love 'free' and from what I'm reading, most people did this in order to get tickets - I'm sure there were some altruistic families out there, but on most message boards I read, the biggest incentive (which is why Disney did this), was for the tickets. As the PP mentioned, with this economy, people would sign up in order to get tickets. Not sure what one should have to do with the other, but Disney knew this, which is why they created this incentive. If it was truly to help out, they wouldn't have made organizations just through so many hoops, and they wouldn't have capped it at 1 million tix, IMHO.

This is the exact reason we did not do it - we volunteer and are very charitable already. My kids have known no other way, and I want them to continue to see that it's part of us as humans to help each other. I didn't want them seeing that a material reward is necessary, nor expected.

I'm not sure what Disney will promote now? This could be a costly situation as they have commercials, billboards, ads, etc. all advertising this promo.

Interesting, Tiger

Ok, I'm going to say some thing so very unpopular.
Why should they promote any thing but the fact that you get a great vacation? :confused3

I think Disney sets itself up to not being able to rebound if the economy gets better. Free dining, buy 4 get 3 free, free tickets. It's now to the point where people get seriously offended when disney doesn't give them some thing supposedly for free. I totally admit I wasn't quiet when my valet parking ended. :rotfl:

Even with the dream squad, you know how many post I read from people complaining they had been to disney 59 times and were never approached by the Dream squad?

my new promotion, come to Disney have a magical vacation.

I have to agree with this. It's kind of like how Penneys has made themselves nothing but a discount store where no one shops until every weekend when it's THE BIGGEST SALE OF THE YEAR! I understand how they have to compete and entice, but I'm afraid they've backed themselves into a corner.
We have our vouchers and really don't know what to do with them..when we go in May it's to early to apply them to renew our APs..when we go in October it's too late. SO..we can let our APs expire, then go get a voucher, upgrade to PH, upgrade to AP..lotta time..or use it to get the pins/fastpasses. I don't get the fast passes..it looks like they are good for 2 rides total..is this right? And how are they different from other fastpasses? Can't you just go get a regular fastpass and get the same result? I don't think I can use them for an AP blackout day (DLR), so maybe get a 1 day on a blackout day and upgrade to PH? very confused :confused3

I personally think if bookings would have been up and the supposed economy turning around would have actually seemed real, they would have extended it. But I think they feel they've basically given away $76 million (1 million x 76 for a base ticket, yes I know not everyone took the tix, not all were adult etc etc) and dont need to give anymore tickets away.
