May 22nd Universal Studios

Old habits die hard and we are still rushing about in the morning to get to the parks for opening. HRH isn’t as well equipped as Disney for people who don’t (or can’t) go off-site for breakfast, so we end up grabbing some fruit and a drink and sitting by the entrance to the pool.

Getting into the parks was a bit of a nightmare this year – none of the finger scanners seemed to work, although the CM still tried everyone’s finger in it!! I felt like saying “just forget it and let us in”

I adore Universal – no scary, scary rides and a real fun family day. :)

Boiling hot today :sunny: so Lucy decided to go in her bikini and kaftan so that she could play in the Curious George Water Park.

Lucy said to Spongebob that she loved him more than she loved anyone else! What about your Mum and sister!!

We always do the rides in this order: Shrek, Jimmy Neutron, Twister, Mummy, Earthquake, Jaws, Men in Black, Back to the Future, ET, Animal Planet Live and then hit the water thing before heading off home. Managed to do most of the rides at least twice.

No Beetlejuice Show and the FOTL didn’t have quite the desired effect with Jaws – ended up queuing for 25 minutes! With no apparent reason, other than it doesn’t open until 11am and it was probably about 11.30 when we got here. :confused3

Lucy thrashed Kara and I on the Men in Black ride scoring a massive 162,555 compared with Kara on 53,332 and my 50,693 – pathetic. Last year Andy scored 280,000!! Can’t quite understand why you have to put your bags in lockers outside and I can never get them to work – and then panic when we come off the ride because I can’t remember the number!!!

Empty stomachs calling we stopped off at the International Food and Film Festival – I couldn’t recall any reports about the place but it was fantastic food and really tasty! Lucy had southern fried chicken and mashed potatoes, Kara and I shared a pizza and then we all shared a plate of fruit – came to about $20 – a bargain. :teeth:

Universal was very empty today and boiling hot :sunny: :sunny: – so Lucy spent about an hour in the water play area whilst Kara and I sat in the sun! Really running out of time to top up the tan. :rotfl:

Lucy was on form when she met these - saying to them "just smile and wave guys, smile and wave" and "cute and cuddly does it" I actually heard one of them laughing!!

Headed off back to the HRH and to the pool area – which seemed empty compared with yesterday. Lucy loves the children’s entertainment at the HRH pool- they did hula-hoop competitions and pool games. Again no English at all in the hotel so she is quite willing to make friends with anyone who will play with her. Kara and I spend the afternoon discussing whether the other women around the pool had “silicones”!!! After a quick look round we decided that we were probably the only ones without them….must ask Andy if we can re-mortgage for **** jobs and a face lift for me!! :rolleyes1

Night time and we decided to walk round City Walk – buying a Fossil watch for Andy and wandering round the Surf Shop. Made our way to HRC and sat in similar seats to last night and ate exactly the same food!! Kara and I shared the chicken wings starters and Lucy had garlic cheese bread – that’s it. The server really thought we had cracked up when we told him that’s all we felt like. He just couldn’t get his head round us just having a starter and no main course!

The girls sat on the steps outside HRC - Lucy still with her tatty sweatshirt on!!

Caught the rickshaw bike back to the hotel (I know: the height of laziness – but our legs just couldn’t walk another step!). Bed at 10.30!!! Busy day tomorrow – Seaworld.

I would just like to say that I have gone back and read all about the Disney part in order and now US/IOA!!!!!!

I am totally looking forward to each installment!! :cool1: :cool1:

Keep'em coming

Just curious how expensive the flights are there for you guys to come in to Orlando? For me they are around $300 per person from where I'm at, about mid-USA. And what's your favorite part about the parks from a UKer perspective?

Sorry i haven't replied earlier - have been to Ibiza (island off Spain)

We always book a package holiday with 10 days at CSR and 4 days at HRH - cost is about $6000 for the 3 of us + $1500 for all our tickets. A fly-dry holiday is about $1400 each person but we have found that staying on-site we can manage without a car.

I work part-time and all my wages go on our annual holiday to Florida, a week in the Canary Islands (off North Africa) and 2 weeks in Ibiza.

Every year we say "This will be the last year in Florida" but then within a week of returning to the UK we have booked for the following year :thumbsup2 We love the parks, fantastic weather and of course the hospitality of our hosts
