Girls, why do we do this to ourselves?

I'm sorry half the people I know, myself included, aren't fit for any of your images.

I dunno..

When I wear makeup i look like a china doll (because im naturally SUPER pale) and.....when I do, its just a bit. For example :

TINY bit of blush (already blush enough as it is)
dont need mascara because my eyelashes are so huge, i have to clean my classes every 5 minutes because my eyelashes rub up against them all the time
maybe a little bit of lipgloss (because i have super chapped lips in the winter)
and thats it.

So basically the most ill ever wear is a TAD of mascara, a DASH of blush, and some lipgloss AT MOST.

i usually never wear that junk though, because...it makes my face feel greasy and yucky D:

Same here...I like a good personality but those qualities are a bonus...lol. I really am just a face guy though.

I doubt that you dont have at least one of those qualities, you definately have a pretty face

Okay, thank you.
But, I'm really starting to get disgusted with a majority of the posts on this thread. I'm under the impresson that people are saying, you're not perfect if you don't have curves, and that's really offensive to people who don't have those genes, because, lets face it, I don't.

It's really ironic how people on here bash the media for their portrayal of how "perfect" should be "skinny" and rant about their "perfect portrayals." It's just as shallow as the media.

Perfect porportions is a girl who is comfortable with themselves. Maybe im not the typical guy, but im not really the type of guy that looks at physical features as a desciding factor in a relationship.
Aw, you DIS guys are freakin' awesome.

Makeup feels greasy to me as well. I can't stand it.

I used to be small. Everyone would tell me "you need to put more weight on...you'll get blown away by the wind." That made me feel so great about myself. I wasn't unhealthy I was just thin because the medication I was on made me have a very small appetite.

One time I was laying in bed with my ex boyfriend and he said I was too thin because one of the bones in my back was sticking out (the bone that is kind of behind your arm...I don't know what it's called). I just cried because there was nothing I could do! I also got called flat chested by his brother because I had a B cup :confused3 He was 12 at the time so I don't know if he thought girls his age had bigger ones. I also had an hourglass shape but just not much meat on my bones. I was 130 pounds and around 5'8". I'm now 170 pounds and that same height so I look better but I'd like to be around 150 pounds.

Whatever...I've since gained quite a bit of weight and could stand to lose some but now I have a C cup and I like that size better. It just really hurt my feelings that people were acting like I had an eating disorder. I used to feel like I wasn't a good enough girl because I wasn't curvy enough or whatever.

Models and people in magazines are airbrushed so they aren't real. Girls compare themselves to those things. That is insane because they are comparing themselves to something that doesn't even exist.

i totally agree laura.
i'm like 165 and 5'7.5''..most people think i weigh around 130 though because of my height.
i think as long as someone is comfortable with their body, they're beautiful (:

Okay, thank you.

Oh please, give me a break.
First, I don't think anyone raved about their "perfect portrayals". "Real girls aren't perfect, and perfect girls aren't real".
We're not saying girls who don't have curves aren't beautiful. Heck, I just recently discovered I have hips and a waist! I'm just saying that it's not attractive, IMO, when you look like a stick.

That photo was photoshopped, but the image the media is portraying that girls have to be that thin disgusts me.
Sorry, but as a former "hefty" girl I'm going to defend it too just like you're going to defend skinny girls.

There is no need for you to get sarcastic.

Just for clarification - by real women I mean women who have breasts bigger than an A cup, thighs bigger than a size 00, and a behind. Some models are stick thin, they look like children.

There's your portrayal right there.

You can defend whatever side you want, but is it necessary for you to bash girls who are naturally skinny?

Woah, were was I getting sarcastic? I know it's hard to read tones, but I was NOT sarcastic at all.

And by my quote, yeah I think girls who are stick figures (and by stick figures I mean skin and bones) aren't real. They don't look real, they look sick.
And just for clarification, I can usually tell when someone is naturally skinny and starving skinny. Sorry if I offended you, but "real" skinny girls look healthy. You are skinny but YOU look healthy! Those girls (IE models) don't even have a glow to their face, and if they do it's spray tans.

Okay, thank you.

what i was saying about perfect proportions is that there are a set of mesurements which was set by a man as the ideal measurements for women. it was something like 36D-24-36 (bust-waist-hips in inches). i am thin myself and my opinion of beautiful is someone who is healthy. i dont think that beauty is determined by a particular size.

NO ONE IS BASHING PEOPLE WHO ARE NATURALLY SKINNY!!!

I'm getting frustrated with people thinking that!

This thread was made to encourage girls not to go after the fake photoshopped models, not just because they're skinny but because they're PHOTOSHOPPED. THOSE are the girls that are not real, not naturally thin girls.

I'll admit, I did say something about 'real woman not looking like sticks', and like I've said before, I completely regret that.

Real woman can be any shape/size/color/etc, as long as they're true & honest and try to believe in themselves.

her description of not real seems to fit me?

Yeah, I realize that.

I may be reading into this topic way too much. But, when I hear "skinny" i think of the people I see in my every day life, healthy, and thin, not models who are pushing themselves over the edge.

I said somewhere earlier in this thread that this week has been really difficult with me. I didn't want to share this, but every so often, I mention that I've starved myself before. I've been battling with my own issues, and I'm starting to do that again. I don't need your sympathy, hugs, thoughts, prayers, etc. I just need to get this out - that my own personal battles found their way to this thread.

I'm totally off-balance. I'm 34inches around (A)-22in waist- 38inch hips. I'm all hips LOL. But anytime I gain I never seem to gain around my waist . My thighs just get bigger :p.

There is a difference between naturally skinny and sickly skinny. There is a girl that works at a department store near me and she is so skinny she looks ill. I'd bet she has an eating disorder because she is just way too skinny for it to be natural.

Some people are just little. That's fine and no one is bashing them. Some people starve themselves sick, that is what everyone is talking about.

And if you would read further into the thread, you would see my clarification. If you choose not to, well then I'm not at fault. :upsidedow

ETA: Jaimie,. I'm sorry if I offended you in any way. I've been accused of starving myself too, and I've admittedly starved myself. In fact, I still do. Sometimes it's a mental thing (I've become OBSESSED with my weight 'ooh I have to lose 3 pounds) and sometimes it's physical (I just don't feel like eating).
