Afternoon ladies!!

Was really taken back by the news of Vicki.....you think stroke & elderly people, so a young gal shouldn't be having a stroke!! I really hope she recovers without any issues.

We received disturbing news about a coworker of Mikes, when he was a paramedic in Coos Bay......they had spent the evening with Jason's (coworker) dad as he passed away. Exactly one hour later, as Jason's 19 yr old son was driving him home....he fell asleep at the wheel & crossed into the path of a semi. It killed Tyler instantly & Jason was beat up but released the same day. This was the second fatality down there in the last couple days. A few days earlier, a 15 & 18 yr old were killed in an accident. This is such a small community, that this touches so many people down there. Also, Bay Cities Ambulance where Mike worked for 10 yrs has had more than their fair share of tragedies.....in fact, this was part of the reason Mike wanted out of there....his fear was pulling up on a coworker, or their family member or one of his own family members. They lost 2 18 yr olds to suicide, a coworkers wife, a coworker & now a 19yr old coworkers son. Tragic & feeling so helpless.

Wow. Very sad. Makes you realize you have to treasure each day, and not take a minute for granted. Also to hug your loved ones often!

Hi everyone,

I still have not heard back from Vicki's mom...I am going to try again today. Last I heard she was in ICU and they had to put a tube in again. Apparantly the recovery has been very slow. I will keep you all posted as I hear more info. I will also pass along all of your well wishes when I get ahold of someone.

On a happier note, I went with my dh to his first powerlifting competition yesterday. It was a beautiful day out...in the 80's, on the beach of Elliot Bay in Seattle. He didn't do wonderful in the bench press but he did really well in the dead lift. His favorite is squat but they didn't have that at this competition. Overall it was a nice day. We even had a chance to meet up with one of his old high school buddies who lives down in the Seattle area.

Today I am heading out to pick blueberries to freeze for the winter and maybe get some blackberries or raspberries if there are any left.

Have a great day!

Hi Sarah, thanx for the update. Do you know if Vicki had a pre-existing condition that may have caused this?? Seems very rare to hear of someone so young having a stroke when they seemed to be quite healthy! So scary, I pray she starts on that road to recovery & doesn't end up with long term problems from this.

Congrats to your son....I enjoyed seeing your updates on FB!! Did he place???

Hi all,
It has been a busy summer for me at work (and it is not slowing down anytime soon - we are in the middle of a merger) and I don't spend much time on the computer at home.

It looks like I am on the list as an attendee twice. I had replied as attending as Patrice and Lisa had me added as Trish which is my nickname that a rarely go my anymore.

Can someone update the list please?

Thanks Trish (aka Patrice)

Actually it was my husband, and he got third in the bench press and second in the dead lift.

VICKI UPDATE:

I just got a text from Vicki's mom that said:
"She is much better today but has started realizing something has happened. She will probably be in ICU a couple more days."

I am going to try to go down to visit her this week and I am replying to the text with your prayers and good thoughts. I will keep you updated as I am updated.

Hello ladies!!! :)

I just spent the day running errands, taking the kids to get their hair cut, and getting Noelle's eyebrows threaded. Then I came home and went on Facebook just to see what's up. I don't know if you noticed but along the side where the ads usually are, they've started posting your statuses from years past so you can see what you were doing on this same day one year ago.
Sure enough, one year ago today it said I was doing the exact same thing!!! I had posted about running errands, doing hair cuts, and even taking Noelle's to get her eyebrows done!!!! :lmao: I thought it was both funny and sad at the same time, but hey, at least I'm consistent. ;)

Thank you for the updates, Sarah.

And congrats to your honey on his weight lifting!!! That's awesome.
Enjoy going berry picking. We did that when we lived in Michigan. Now my berry picking is limited to the produce section at the grocery store.

That's what I was wondering. I mean, not to be nosey, but she is young so in my case it was quite scary to think something like this could happen to anyone of us.

Hi there! I will adjust that now, thanks for letting me know. Sooooo, which do you usually prefer? Patrice or Trish?
Also if you get the chance, post a pic and I'll add that to the front as well. :)

Oh, and good luck with the merger at work!

Since it now appears that Carnation Cafe will be closed during our trip, we need to find something to replace it with for Sunday's lunch.
I actually will be gone already, as I plan to leave Sunday a.m., so I don't feel like I should have much say in it.

Those of you who are still planning to be around for lunch on that day, if you could go ahead and offer up some ideas, please. Thanks!!!!! :)

Just my two cents here, but even if someone knows if she does, it's probably not a good idea to post about it here. If she had something like that that she wanted to share with the group, that's one thing. I personally wouldn't want all my business posted without my knowledge or consent, especially since she hasn't mentioned anything like that before - FWIW.

Oh, I agree. I don't even need/want to know. For me, anytime something like this happens to anyone young, whether I know them or not, it just serves as a wake up call to remind us that you just never know what life will bring you.
So no, I wasn't literally suggesting someone actually share private info, just more of wondering out loud..... Sorry for any confusion! :flower3:

My question was thinking out loud.......I would assume that details of what's going on would be handled in our FB group. I've been hit with 3 tragedy's all with in a couple days & it's my way to trying to sort thru all these things. Theresa you are correct in not posting too much personal info on here!!!

I know what you mean - it's been a very difficult week here too and it is completely a wake up call. You just never know what tomorrow will bring.

I was meaning to ask how your friends are all doing? You've gone thru the ringer as well. So much loss of young lives this past week....hard to grasp & understand why?? Also how is the one doing that had the transplant. I hope everything goes well & quick recovery comes their way!!

Hey ladies~ I was making a quick check in on fb and saw that something was going on with Vicki....you are in my prayers girl!

Life has been so busy these past two weeks. I am technically only part time, so I wasn't given nearly enough "paid" time to prep my class and materials, but isn't that always the case with teachers?! ;) I think everything is ready for classes to begin tomorrow morning. I was able to meet a lot of my students and visit some from last year at back to school night on Friday so that made me feel more at ease.

Last Saturday, the 13th, my friend Levi (who is one of my fellow staffers in high school ministry at church), his 4 month old son died of SIDS. This past week in addition to school prep, was filled with reaching out to him and his wife and attending a memorial last night for their baby. It has been truly heartbreaking, and our students were so devestated to not only be hurting alongside Levi, but to have him exit the ministry as well as he takes the time to mourn his son. It makes me want to cling to my own sons more.

Other than those two things, life has been pretty ordinary, albeit much busier. I am hoping that things calm down since my class is now organized and all I need to do is just stay on top of making copies and grading - thank goodness I will have a TA this year!

At the end of the day it is all good. But if you still feel bad I like chocolate chip cookies, double batch with the chips at the single batch rate. Maybe a little oat meal added-- but not much -- you can deliver any time in the next 48 hours -- Have I made you feel better yet-- I know I will be feeling great and sassy full of cookies :).

I do have a real question though. I am confused if you teach the ASL or you are a translator for hearing impaired students in main stream classes. Either one sounds interesting. When the ASL is offered at the local college again I am planning on taking a quarter to see if I could learn ASL. I think the children at daughters school read lips but are also asigned a translator.

Good luck on job. I used to spend so little time in office I thought --now why do i have this office :). So the mail man can send me bills was all I could think of for a reason.

Have a great rest of summer -- enjoy the Disney artifacts-- and family antiques. I gave my daughter some of our family artifacts so she could enjoy now and I would be able to experience how much she enjoyed them.

I would send cookies if I had the time :rotfl: I teach at a "regular" Christian private school. Students can choose to take ASL or Spanish for their foreign language option. Spanish is easily the more popular choice since it is more prevelant in California, but really, ASL is the second most used language in the US so hopefully students start realizing that and start taking my class instead! lol For sure there is more money in ASL interpretting. :cutie:

Well, I better get to bed...one of these days I will have more than a few minutes to get on the board and catch up!

Good morning, ladies!!! :)

It's Monday again. Where did the weekend go? I know some of you have kids starting back to school today, so good luck to all of them. :teacher:
Mine go back one week from today. This summer seems to have just flown by.

But Fall is going to bring lots of fun things, so I'm excited for that. First up will be the sign-ups next month for the Diva Halloween exchange! I cannot wait for that. I was in Sam's Club yesterday and saw some Halloween themed snacks and treats and got so excited. :rotfl2: Yes, I am a total dork. ;)

Hey Jen! First of all, I wanted to say how sorry I am for your friend's loss. I can't even imagine how much pain he must be in. :sad2:

But I also wanted to wish you good luck as you too go back to school. :thumbsup2 I'm sure you'll do great.

By the way, I took a class in college where there was a student who had her ASL interpreter with her. I found it hard to focus on the teacher because I was mesmerized by the sign language. It fascinated me. And a good friend of mine is a speech pathologist and had to take classes in ASL. One day she signed "Wind Beneath My Wings" for me and it was so pretty to watch.
I seriously thought of taking classes in ASL but life got in the way and I never did. But to this day, it still interests me.

Good morning! :goodvibes

Beth, Kaitlyn went back to school last week already!

Theresa, Not sure what is going on, but know that I am thinking of you! BIg hugs!

Jen, So sorry to hear about your friend's son. That is truly tragic. I could not imagine their sorrow. I will pray keep Levi and his family in my prayers.

Sarah, So glad to hear that Vicki is coming around. I will continue to keep her in my prayers also. Please give her some big hugs from me.

The transplant went well and he's out of ICU, so that's a good thing :thumbsup2

Finally got the picture up. I will answer to either Trish or Patrice, but I think most of you met me as Trish so let's go with that.
