I don't know how you guys deal with your hubbies working over night. DH was working that shift when we met, but that's when he was sleeping 2 hours a night and thriving...when we started dating there were 48 hour periods when he had no sleep at all. But then he got laid off and got a daytime job, and since then when he toys with the idea of "ooh wouldn't the night shift pay differential be nice?" I let him know that working overnight is incompatible with our marriage...see my first stepdad worked graveyard and it gave him ALL sorts of time to be up to no good, and then he slept all day and we had to be silent until HE woke up, and I just hated living in that situation, so no graveyard shift for DH! Not everyone has that background, of course.

staley, I just saw this "I tend to sleep best with a baby head in my arm pit!". I can SO relate. Wish I had an actual baby there, but having "my baby" there is also good. :upsidedow
Up to no good???

:rotfl: My DH is so busy I don't think he has time to be up to no good.

He'll usually come home and sleep until about 11. Luckily the kids are in school and I'll just do things around the house or DIS. :rolleyes1 :thumbsup2
Then when he wakes up we'll go have a nice lunch just the two of us.

He takes another quick nap later in the day before he goes back to work. It's not ideal but it's only been a short while and we're hoping it won't be a permanent thing. Which is good because my sleep is all messed up and getting about 5 hours of sleep a night is not enough for me.

I doubt I could to this for months or years on end. Although like you said, it's different for everyone. My FIL used to get jobs that were out of state and so my DH grew up use to not seeing his dad for weeks at a time. Now that's hard. Or families with one spouse in the military. That's gotta be rough.

Yep, DH can relate to your DH! DH's dad was in the Navy before DH was born, then Merchant Marines, then various shipping businesses. He was usually away 3 months at a time. Even after his second retirement he went back to work, worked the civilian-supporting-military ships (big grey ones) out in SF harbor, he was in charge, and lived from his RV and visited his wife up in WA every few months.

Up to no good...then-stepdad-Joe was a piece of work. Shortly after their wedding, he told a group of friends that enjoyed (present tense, nothing said about not enjoying it anymore now that he met the love of his life (third marriage and he was only 30)) going to a certain county in Nevada and partaking in a certain activity only allowed there (and Amsterdam). I didn't know this at the time, but my mom was there and thought "oh crud".

After they divorced (I was 18) and as I got older, my mom shared more and more...he would say he was going to work, but she'd look at the odometer and it would be just about exactly a round trip from San Jose out to *that* county(100s of miles more than it should have been)...money was always missing, it turned out he was dealing guns with the losers across the street (though that part was in the daytime). Since we slept while he "worked", there wasn't the immediate access "oh I need to call Joe to bring home milk", and of course no internet/IM, so if you take an untrustworthy person and put them into that situation...it just wasn't good.

I don't think DH would do THAT, but he's had a bit of a lying problem in the past (stupid stupid lies, but lies all the same), so I like being awake while he's at work, and sleeping at the same time (or like now, I'm up while the boys are asleep 'cuz I'm trustworthy). :upsidedow

That's just me, though.

Plus, there's NO chance we could keep DS away from him if he needed to sleep during the day. They are soooooo bonded, and except for certain nutrition needs and wound-care, if DH is around I'm pretty much ignored. Robert can easily keep E away from me when I'm sleeping in, but I'd have to tie Eamon up to keep him from papa (and I'm just not willing to do that :rotfl2: ).

*************
I'm with fairycat in that I'm veggie (though obviously there's a philosophical difference b/c we spell it differently :rotfl: )...but on the other hand, as long as we're not splitting the tabs in some "even" fashion, I have no problem going somewhere and ordering a dessert, or just a drink. If I can go.

DH tried to get the just-enrolled benefits switched today, and it's possible he could have done it, but then we realized that since it's more than 6 months through his benefits year, the high ded. plan's deductible is pro-rated, and is just about the same as for the "regular" insurance plan, so we'll be paying not that much more with the HD plan as with the other. So he didn't chance it.

It's not just b/c of DS, but I like Rainforest Cafe. :confused3 Didn't try any of the other places. I could see the Lilo character b'fast being really high-energy and fun for a big group, but it's the only one I've been to!

OMG, Molly. That's like a soap opera to read!! I see what you mean though. Wow.

It would be harder for you since your DS is younger. I can see how he'd want to be with daddy if he was home. Then that would be hard on you too.

I'm not vegetarian, but I am soooo picky. I don't eat alot of meat. Not much beef other then in tacos or whatever, and even then I'll use ground turket. No steak, seafood, pork, veal, lamb, etc.
Mainly chicken and turkey. And we do use alot of vege products, like Morningstar Grillers, and sausage patties. Sometimes I'll even get the vege burger at Burger King when we go with the kids.

I like Rainforest Cafe! It's fun!! I'd go there too. Am I the only one thinking that between the meals, tours, shopping, etc, that we are going to need more time????? :lmao: :lmao:

Oh, and don't give up hope. It's still a ways off. Think positive, and plan it like your coming. :thumbsup2

I was bored, lol, so I put up a schedule on the first page of the thread. It's just the days right now and some suggestions. Totally tentative. We can make what ever changes we need to as we finalize our plans along the way. :thumbsup2

But having it there all the time will make it a quick and easy reference guide for those who can't read the thread every day and just want to check for any changes.

Good morning. ladies!

I am about to get Maddie up for preschool then off to work. Have a good day!:)

Now here is a small world, I live in the AV too! I have never taken the train how does that work??

You can catch the train in Lancaster or in Palmdale. From there you take it to the last destination LA Union Station. Switch trains to the Orange county line (not sure of the exact name) and get off in Anaheim. The station there is right outside of Angels' Stadium. I did this with my kids in April and it was very easy and there was no stress in driving. We had a cab waiting for us and dropped us off at the hotel. You can get the schedule, fares, etc by googling metrolink lancaster schedule (I never bookmark the link...maybe I should :) ).

Hey all! I am so excited that the dates are final and we can plan. I ... uh.. didn't bring it up to DH this weekend like I planned. But I think I have figured the whole thing out with the money issue. I know we can afford the tip monitarily but he will tell me that we can better use the money elsewhere (pay off our van- how fun is that??). But he really, really wants this big recliner chair he saw in a magazine. Well that there camo-extra-large-recliner-chair-with-massager will cost around the same as my Girls Disney trip. Hmmm. Guess I will order that chair for him and book my trip! :lmao:

So to catch up with all I missed over the weekend...

I love the idea of a character breakfast and I'd love to try the Blue Bayou.

I have only been to DL twice that I can remember and we went to WDW in Sept 07.

For fun I love to read and we as a family are way into sports. All of my boys exept the 2 yo play baseball. The two older play football and the 9 yo wrestles. It seems like that is what my whole life revolves around!

And now I am off to find a roomie!

I have not mentioned to DH yet.

I think I will wait until it gets closer, not that he would care. "You are leaving me alone WITH 3 kids???" I will just say there is cash in the drawer for pizza and blockbuster :rotfl2: Then, I am out the door.

WOW I've missed a lot of the activity over the weekend :scared1: .

I was so swamped over the weekend that I didn't get a chance to check in on the DIS. I've been packing for our vacation to WDW, working on the kids school projects and then my sister had marital drama. She and her kids ended up staying the night one night.

I'm glad the dates are finalized and we can start planning more details. I'm game to eating anywhere and doing anything. On our family vacations, I'm a compulsive planner, but since there are so many ladies, I'll let someone else do the planning and just go along for the ride :thumbsup2 .

Hope everyone is well!!

Katie

My Dh and I worked opposite shifts when DD was a baby. I worked 3:30 to midnight. I can honestly tell you I don't think I could do it now. I'm glad I don't have to. It's amazing what your body will allow you when you're younger that there's no way you could handle as you get a bit older! It would make a trip like this one more challenging, too, as DH would probably have to take vacation time for me to be able to take a weekend.

I told DH about the Girls only trip, and he was very excited for me. Thought it was a great idea. We were pretty bummed about me not being able to go on the WDW Ladies only trip, but at the time finances wouldn't allow. And, my mom had triple by-pass surgery, and then we moved from MN to CA. Now, a DLR trip is a pretty easy one to make, as it's so close. I intend to have an annual pass by then!

I checked out the tentative schedule that's on the first page. Sounds good to me. I've never been to Chef Mickey's, but am totally open to wherever everyone wants to go. Breakfast, lunch or dinner for the character meal is fine by me.

I anticipate I'll be staying over across the street, but may be able to splurge by then and stay at DLR hotels. I've stayed at DLH before, I'd love to try GCA, but as others have said, you spend so little time in the hotel, not that big of a deal. I mainly want close.

I feel like I read that one other hotel, like a Best Western, or something else starting with a B? had an AP rate when someone called.

Oh wow that was almost negatively helpful.

Hobbies...thinking about all the photos I'm going to print, thinking of all the non-cutesie but non-boring scrapbooks I'm going to make someday...I read mystery novels like they are going out of style. I go to the library, pick something that looks interesting, read it in a day (fast reader), and if I like it (and I usually do) I'll put holds on ALL of the series (I only read series, I want to know the characters still exist! only exception to this is Dick Francis, he only wrote one "sequel" with a same character, and he was the BEST protagonist EVER, I'm still in love with that character). Then I read them in order. :rolleyes1

I think I luck out with dh working nights... He sleeps like he is dead.. I am so serious that nothing wakes this man up.:sad2: My kids run screaming through the apartment, and it is VERY small... (700sq ft) and he doesnt hear a thing!:lmao: :lmao:

Trust me... my baby is FAR from being a baby, she is a moose! but shes mine, and I still look at her like she just a few months old... Til I pick her up and realize she weighs 42 lbs..:rolleyes1 :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Hello ladies!! I hope everyone is having a good day. My kids are home so things will be busy today. I hope everyone or anyone who has the day off has a good day.

Talk to ya later!!

Cindy and Lisa, I like your plans for the trip and your hubbys. LOL :thumbsup2

Katie, I hope everything is ok with your sister now.

Michelle, I've never been to any of the character meals, but I'm open to anyone them. As long as it's fun and doesn't mind a loud rowdy group of ladies. :rolleyes1 :rotfl:

Megan, that's good your DH can sleep through just about anything. I am such a light sleeper. Although I did sleep in today. I went to bed at a quarter to 4 in the morning and woke up at almost noon!! :sad2: I have got to get back on a normal sleep schedule.

Steph, I like that you can take a train. Less stress, like you said. I'm looking into taking a bus since I can't drive (my DH would need the minivan) and I hate to fly.

Talk to ya'll later!! :)

Beth, my sister did go home, but things are far from OK. I'm there for her whenever she needs me, but I try not to meddle too much, because I don't like it when my family trys to run my relationships. But I do feel bad for the kids :guilty: .

As far as the character meal, I think that Goofy's Kitchen would be the most fun for a group. The characters there always seem to be more outgoing and friendly and every so often, they have a group dance in the middle of the restuarant (I believe it's the Margarena??). Plus there's always a different assortment of characters.

I'm sorry to hear that Katie. Especially when kids are involved. But it sounds like she's lucky to have you there to help out and be supportive. That's so important.

Goofy's Kitchen sounds fun!! I'd be up for that.
