I didn't want to hijack the "what does your kindergartener wear" thread but it made me think of something......where do you get good quality heavy winter tights for your girls? DD is rough on them so I don't want them to be too expensive....but it would be nice if they still looked nice after 2 or 3 wearings.

I buy leggings they are pretty much indistructable and they are a fad right now.

$3 pink sparkled ones at Wal Mart last weekend.

I have tried the legging route....DD doesn't like them....I can't figure out why, but it isn't worth the battle. She is hard on them because she plays hard....and spills things.

Would love to know where to get GOOD tights and leggings... My DD is starting Kindergraten and would love her to be able to wear some of her skirts and skorts into the fall/winter

They had lots of nice quality, cute ones at the children's place last winter. I remember they were 99 cents on clearance at the end of the season. Not sure how much they are regular price.

Hanna Andersson Loose Tights are the best quality tights I have ever found. They are thick, warm and pretty indestructible. They are not cheap, but a couple of pairs to rotate through during the week should last the whole season. My DD9 wore these to school at least 3 days/week with her uniform and she plays hard too (think tomboy) and they last. Usually Hanna has a preseason sale where they mark stuff down if you buy it before you really need it. Usually the tights go on sale in Sept.

I like the cotton type of tights vs the all lycra styles, they seem to hold up better for us and don't "run" if they get a hole. We buy our tights at Target and Childrens Place.

My dd also is a huge legwarmer fan, so most times with skirts she'll have on tights, legwarmers and socks. :rotfl2: I definitely think the legwarmers help protect the tights some and help to keep her legs toasty in the colder months.

I agree - we've tried leggings, but dd is weird about socks and leggings... I don't know...

I buy her tons at Childrens Place as soon as they come out in the fall, I think they're like $7 a pair, but they do the 2 for sale frequently - 2 for 10 or 2 for 12. It's totally worth it to me to extend her skorts through the winter.

Osh Kosh has some good ones; my DDs tights lasted all last winter and she should be able to wear them again this fall. Got them at the outlet.

DD8 has rejected tights completely in favor of the leggings route. I used to get the heavy (and cute patterned) ones at Target, Children's Place and LL Bean (clearance for the first two if I could, and LLB outlet.) I'd get Hanna Andersson if I could find them at the outlet or second hand. (Those things wear like iron!) Lands End also carries them (in Sears, too.)

Lands End, gymboree and Children's place but I get most of mine from Lands End. They are super cute and I can often find them online in the overstocks section for a reasonable price (they have some right now).

I have made myself stop purchasing them as dd10 is anti skirt/dress right now and dd8 seems to enjoy wearing leggings with hers. My lands end tights have lasted for years! Most of our old ones we give to friends with younger kids and they have remained in good condition for them as well!

(Bolding mine) I have to second this. My girls are now 9 and 11 and don't wear tights that much anymore, but when they were little, they lived in the Hannah, Gymboree, and Lands End ones. DD11 could wear them until she outgrew them (usually 2 seasons) and then I'd pass them on to DD9 who would wear them even longer because she's a much "slower grower". Often the tights (and outfits that accompanied them) would still be in good enough condition to pass on to friends or goodwill.

Totally worth the money for the more expensive tights.

I get cheap plain-colored heavyweight cotton tights at Walmart. They last the whole season (sometimes 2), and only cost a few dollars a pair. I don't see much sense in paying 2-3 times as much at Lands End for tights that I won't get significantly more wear out of because even the Walmart ones are outgrown before they're outworn.
