I thought some of the DIS board members would be interested in this story. A Girl Scout robotics team from Georgia helped out a 10 year old friend by installing a backup camera on his wheelchair to help him see behind his chair. The girls made a video about the installation process.

I'm a proud parent of one of the girls on the team. The girls are trying to share their idea with as many people as possible. If you have friends that might be interested, please pass on the link to the girls' video.

That is cool. YOU GO GIRLS!!!!!

Thank you for all the kind comments! :goodvibes

Please feel free to pass the link to the video on to anyone that might be interested in the idea. The girls are trying to share their idea as much as possible and are tracking how many hits they get on their video and in what countries. The URL for the video is:

The girls are one of 80 teams from around the world invited to participate in the FIRST LEGO League World Festival robotics tournament at the end of April.

We met the mom of a Girl Scout that uses a wheelchair at one of our presentations and she commented how a camera on her daughter's wheelchair would make their lives easier. The team had enough money left over from our fundraising to do a 2nd camera installation...so we offered to give them a camera too. :yay: We're meeting with them on Friday to see what parts we'll need to order.

If you haven't seen the video of our first camera installation, here's the link:

We'll make another video when we do the 2nd camera.

Pretty cool.
That was a very interesting idea they came up with and it’s nice that it was so helpful.

Here's a story about the team from our local news. The girls won the "Make a Difference" Judges' Award at their tournament a few weeks ago.

The wheelchair in the story is not their friend's wheelchair. It is the prototype the girls built on a manual wheelchair. The story was originally taped several months ago, a few days before the girls installed the camera on his wheelchair. It just took a while for the news station to fit our story into their news cycle.

We haven't installed the 2nd camera yet due to everyone's school schedules, but all the parts have been ordered. We'll do the installation in the next few weeks once school is out for the summer.
