I know I'm the wrong gender here but I would like to peep in with this...

Girls, most guys find that bone thin look disgusting. I've found most guys like women who don't look like they will snap in half when we go to hug them.

Sometimes I compare myself to them...but mostly because I want to be in the industry. For my height and for me to be "super-skinny" but STILL HEALTHY I am right now about 7 lbs overweight. Doesn't sound like a lot...at all...but when you are only 5'3" with small bones...it's hard to get rid of that. I would never put myself through an eating disorder to be thin, but I try my best to stay "skinny" because I want to be an actress or model...so it's kind of necessary. Now...I also (semi-sadly) accept that I have hips and a lil bit of junk in the trunk...but I try to just make it look as proportional and healthy, but minimalistic as possible...

That's just me personally...I'm sure I've said this on the DIS 100 times...

Well, my honest answer would have to be yes. But in a positive way.

I want to be an actress in the future, so I'm obviously thinking about body image.

I used to be a bit overweight (about 5'2 & 155 lbs @ 13!)
But I started to diet (HEALTHY diet, eating healthy, excercising etc.) and my mom helped me because she knew i had really low self esteem then.
And I used thin, yet healthy looking actresses as incentive.
I am not 5'5 # 130 lbs @ 17, and I think I look good! And healthy! And I have really high self esteem now.

So yeah, the skinny actresses affect my body image, but I think in a positive way.
I know I'd never want to be rail thin, I don't find it attractive at all, but I do know that being at a proper weight and having a healthy body gave me alot more confidence and improved my image of myself.

good on ya mike, good on ya.
i'm well aware guys don't like uberly skinny girls. though a lot of them like tall girls, which i'm very self concious about my height. i'm short. i'd rather worry about a guy being shorter than me, than being taller. i just wish i was taller than someone other than my mother.

no. i agree with Lil_Tink: "The ones who make me want to have a better body are the murf like denise austin or an actress whos healthy like Jessica Simpson." the anoerexic looking actresses like kiera knightly, kate bosworth and nicole ritchie disgust me.
i feel bad for the people who ar naturally thin though... i have a lot of friends who look like they have a eating disorder and they've gotten comments but they just laugh as well as their friends because they eat like pigs! lol girls with fast metabolisms or who are active can't help it and i feel bad for them having to deal with people's assumptions.
nothing could ever make me want to look like these aneorexic looking actresses, and im glad im not naturally super thin either because i would hate to have to deal with people's comments about my size and weight
im happy with how i am im, average weight for my age/height

I understand if you have a naturally small figure, or excersise often, and eat healthy - but I'm talking really bad (eating disorder bad). I was stating my opinion.

::yes:: But im smaller than most anerexic celelbs, but i wouldnt even THINK about being anerexic, or balemic!!

Thank you for posting this.

AN is a mental disorder. I've studdied it, and it is a horrible disease. It should not be taken lightly.

I used to always worry about my weight, but now I love my body. I'm confident in my skin. and That is more than any AN victim could ever have. I feel horrible for these poor actresses. Their body can affect if they get a job or not. Its not surprising that AN runs through them.

I actually like shorter girls. I find them cuter than girls the same height as me.

I"m going to be tall, and you can pretty much see all my ribs, this thread made my self esteem go very low...

FINALLY.
someone who appreciates short people.
i have no clue how tall i am. my mother is 4 foot 11 & i'm about an inch or two taller, however, according to measuring tape, i'm only four foot nine..

i don't really think of these celeb's as beautiful. like everyone else in the world, i know LL as Skeletor & Nicole Richie looks like a bobble head. Nicole Richie is TOO skinny. before she was kinda chubby, she could have spared a couple of pounds, but NOT THAT MANY.

Why do you let what we think, make your self esteem go low? Like I saw in my previous post, just be proud of yourself.

I'm 5'6'' and my height was never something I worried about. you can't really change it so why bother worrying.

Actresses don't effect my way of life. If they are proud of what they like like, then kudos to them. I am satisfied with my figure, and that is the only thing that matters, satisfaction with yourself.

interesting. there was a show on oprah about this topic. there was a 4 yr old who was dieting and a bunch of other crazy things. i was looking at the message board about this topic and was shocked at one post i read. here is a snipit of it:

I will not even delve into so-called, "children's movies" on the big screen; other than to ask is it no small wonder that a young child would be obsessed with their looks after seeing the Little Mermaid, Cinderella, Pochahantas etc. 10 or 15 times?!?(not to mention the books, posters, window shades, toys etc. that parents will enforce the story's message with)

So much of society thinks it's "cute" when little girls want to be princesses, but we never think to ask why they may want to be one. We also seldom ask them if they wouldn't rather be a queen of their own domain.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
i really don't think that the princess movies (or anything disney princess) is bad enough to be banned. i think that its a fun imaginary thing that little girls love to think about. wat girl didn't want to be a princess?? lol. i really don't think that seeing those movies would be bad for a girls' self image. sry that this post is so long!

I AGREE! How STUPID of them to blame Disney. Disney is not saying "these princesses are THIN and you should be too!" They are saying believe in yourself, and your dreams. Go after what you want and stay firm in your beliefs, but be open minded. Weight is the LAST thing on Disney's mind. Gawd...how irritating... :furious:

::yes:: That's an absurd comment; to blame Disney! When I was little, that's one thing I definitely didn't think about when watching Disney movies... :sad2:

This thread has both made me feel better and worse at the same time! lol. As I read through the many posts...I come to find that what people find as "good-looking" is short and not very thin.

I am extremely self-conscious and critcal of how I look. I cringe at having my picture taken and refuse to post it anywhere for anyone to see. I don't even like having any picture of me up in the house. Anyway, that is going a bit beyond my point. I am not sure how to take this thread...what is pretty to one person is ugly to another and that is how it is always going to be.

It seems to me like most people who are short, want to be tall...and those who are tall, want to be short. I am tall and I wish more than anything that I was short...

Wouldn't it be nice, if when we are born, get to choose how we want to look and how tall we are to be?

The fact of the matter is and will always be that we can't. We are who we are and to change that is to change something unique in the world.

it's not always the case of we always want what we can't have.
i don't want to be ridiculously tall, maybe 5 foot 6. i have a friend who's five foot seven & her goal is to be at least 6 feet. i suppose you wouldn't call it a goal though xD

Thanks to all who have replied! I would especially like to thank MunKy for getting in on this, Soooo many girls think they have to be pin-thin to be noticed, but you have got them thinking straight! :thumbsup2
