Girl Kidnapped At 11 Is Found 18 Years Later

I read that within the past few years, neighbors had called the authorities to report that this man (whom they knew to be a registered sex offender not allowed to have contact with children) had children walking around in his backyard. The neighbors spotted the kids, called and reported it, but it seems nothing was done.

WTH?!?!?!?!?!?! :confused3 You have a registered sex offender with a history of kidnapping, who is reported to have children on his property, and you don't search every inch of it and quiz every neighbor? Someone dropped the ball in the worst way. Yes, he had it somewhat hidden, but if the neighbors saw it, the police could have seen it....perhaps from the reporting neighbor's house. :headache:

That makes me so angry.

The guy's a looney tunes and will say anything. And how the hell a sex offender on parole was able to pull this off for so long just makes it even more disgusting on different levels. His parole officer needs to be heavily scrutinized.

According to him those kids cured him. He claims to not have laid a finger on them.

I'm not buying any of this.:sad2:

This has been all over our local news here and on the late news last night they showed pics of the backyard and this woman and her two children were living in the backyard, basically in a tent compound. They didn't even live in the house with the man and his wife.

I'm not buying it either...if the first child cured him, then why was there a second child?
I also can't believe his wife stood by him and did nothing about this.

I think he meant that he didn't molest his own 2 children fathered by her.

She was his sex slave.:sad2:

This was my 1st thought too.
When someone said this was the parents best hope- I don't think so.
You would imagine your child being loved adored and cared for. not raped and god knows what else. I know they are still extremely grateful to have her back but the therapy these 3 will need is unbelievable!
Also, he sounded like he wanted to get caught. Why in the world would he bring the Jaycee and the 2 kids to the parole office?

I told my kids they should give the parents a baseball bat and set them free in the cell with him. THAT would be the beginning of the justice process.

I completely agree...I wonder if there are studies or stats on all the kidnapping cases/abductions/child murders which indicate the perpetrator had been in troublr prior. I mean how many times does this have to happen before stricter laws are put in to place keeping these animals behind bars?

Instead of castration, these people need lobotomies before they are released back into the public. They can't do much if they are walking zombies. :sad2:

Well, obviously this man is delusional. :headache:Just reading his statements it's clear that his reality is altered by mental illness. That doens't absolve him from his crimes and they are many. But it does explain a lot about why he would do these terrible things.

I have no sympathy for this man or his wife. I know that at some point in his life he must have been told he suffered from a mental illness, like schizoaffective disorder, bipolar w/psychosis, or schizophrenia. He has chosen to be unmedicated which allows his illness to run amok in his life and everyone else's. His wife has chosen to help him carry out his terrible deeds and never once force him to seek psychiatric treatment or called the police. She's as mentally ill as he is, I believe.

The real victims in this tragedy are Jaycee and her children. How in the world can she know how to parent her kids when she was snatched away from her own family at such a young age. She's still a child herself, having been held captive with no outside interaction for so many years. OMG, I can't even comprehend the length and depth and breadth of this tragedy. :sad2:

They were saying on the news that neighbors had called about him having kids in his back yard and told them that something just wasn't right at his house. The police told them there was nothing they could do about it.

The system failed these kids and it will continue to fail children. My FIL works in probation and supervises sexual offenders. He is only required by law to do 10 minute home visits. As a social worker I informed him he couldn't get an entire picture of the home situation in 10 minutes. He then proceeded to argue with me. Anyway, the parole officer failed big time in this and so did the police that didn't investigate kids in the backyard of a sex offender.

It says in the CNN article that the woman and girls are staying at a motel. I would think there would be a more appropriate place to house them than a motel.

There are probably security issues with bringing them home to her mother's house right now. They would be swamped with media. Remember, they've never been in a building with 4 walls before or have had contact with so many people. Having that many people descend on them may be very frightening for them.

They also aren't use to high end accomodations. Probably squirreled away in some truck stop type, low-end, one floor motel that the FBI uses as a safehouse would be what's best for them right now.

I watch the show In Plain Sight on the USA network. It's about federal marshalls watching over people in the witness protection program. On the show, they always show them squirrelling away people in cheap motels. It's easier to watch from the streets & parking lot. One agent in front, one in back. They don't have to worry about other floors and points of entry. They don't have to station extra agents on floors above & below, at the elevators, at the stairs, etc. And any "visitors" (especially in disguise,) to the motel, who would not normally visit stick out like sore thumbs.

I guess I'm thinking they should be in some sort of mental health facility. They are going to need untold therapy and counselling.

I just watched a press conference given by the depart of corrections (which is in charge of the parole department) and they said that he's been under their watch since he moved to CA in 1999 and he has had no parole violations.

Uh, YES HE HAS. Just for some reason that I cannot fathom, he was not caught in almost 10 years of interviews and home checks. How did they miss this? They visited the house where the girl was held captive. Surely, they were not ALL visits by appointment and there were at least some surprise visits in there.

Wow, google map the address...1554 walnut ave, antioch, ca. So not what I was expecting, I thought it would be remote...its in the middle of a big neighborhood and you can see all of the blue tarp tents and make shift housing...scary.

And really, people, especially on the CB, wonder why some parents are so overprotective and want their child to have cell phones, etc.

Because a cell phone would have saved her.
I am quite sure that her kidnapper would have aloowed her to keep her cell phone, just in case of emergencies...
