Gingerbread House and Carousel

We have been there starting the weekend after Thanksgiving and have seen the gingerbread house.

I would love more info on all of the other setups, train, carosel, toy shop. Are they all Gingerbread? Should we plan an evening to tour all of them?

Beach-side Lobby
This life-size gingerbread carousel is completely edible, made with gingerbread, chocolate, and sugar paste.

Yacht-side Lobby
Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Train—miniature train surrounded with sugar rock mountain and village.

Boardwalk
“Home for the Holidays with Mickey and Minnie” A living room scene complete with a fireplace, clock, and miniature train, made of gingerbread and chocolate. There will be five hidden Mickeys.

CR
Holiday Toy Shop with Gepetto and Pinocchio. Made of sugar and chocolate.

GF
Life-size holiday gingerbread house in the hotel lobby. The Bake Shop uses a classic gingerbread recipe from Austria to make their gingerbread houses, ornaments and cookies. The gingerbread house offers several freshly baked, homemade items, such as gingerbread cookies and shingles, Stollen Bread and chocolate chip cookies and chocolate peppermint bark. Also available are homemade gingerbread ornaments and miniature gingerbread houses. Other offerings include assorted gingerbread cookie bags, chocolate Holiday characters, lollipops, and special Grand Floridian logo boxes with truffles.

Gingerbread house decorating demo 6 days a week in front of the Gingerbread House.

Epcot-Liberty Inn
Made entirely of gingerbread, cookies, and icing, the life-sized structure contains over 800 pounds of sugar and more than 1,000 eggs!

I know last year AKL and Polynesian did a display as well but I do not have info for their resorts. I will try to find out!

Wow, thanks for all of the information Patricia! Now I need to find some time to see them all!!!

I guess we'll have to do some resort touring at night since the parks (except for Epcot) close kind of early some nights. :woohoo:

Yes, I know that. I was simply saying it is not a very tasty one.

Mace is actually the milder tasting outside of the NUTMEG. It is made from this little fibrous cover on the real nutmeg. I use it all the time. Not that you might not like the taste but I wonder is it was a different spice in the gingerbread that turned you off. Real candied ginger is actually different tasting than the powdered stuff. Unless they just put too much mace in it!

Just smell the good stuff and don't eat it! :sunny:

This is all I know of so far at resorts...it's what I have so far on a web page I started where I will have the photos of these things and trip reports when we get back:

While all of the resorts have Christmas trees and other decorations, many of the resorts have special displays too, and lots of them edible, constructed from gingerbread, sugar, and chocolate. To see the decorations at resorts other than the one you are staying in, just hop a resort bus from the TTC or from any of the parks. You could easily spend a whole day resort-hopping to see all of the displays.

If you purchase a gingerbread house from one of the resorts, plan on carrying it home. As far as I know, none of the resorts will ship the houses because of their fragility. If you are flying, make sure to save room in your carryon!

Head for the Contemporary Resort to see a gingerbread village. It's on the fourth floor near Chef Mickey's.

The life-size Gingerbread House at the Grand Floridian Resort, which is also a shop where you can purchase gingerbread houses and gingerbread shingles like the ones that roof the life-size house, stands in the lobby of the hotel. They start making the gingerbread months before they start building to have enough. Every shingle and siding slab is a separate cookie, glued on with decorator icing.

There is an African Village made of modeling chocolate at Boma (a wonderful restaurant serving food buffet-style with an African flavor) at Animal Kingdom Lodge.

Check out Disney's Beach Club Resort lobby for a life-sized completely edible carousel, with sugar horses, giant candy cane poles, and a lighted gingerbread roof! Small gingerbread houses and Christmas stollen will be for sale.

Disney's Boardwalk Resort has a chocolate, sugar, and gingerbread Boardwalk, complete with rides, including a five foot tall Ferris wheel, a carousel, and a water slide. There is even a beach area.

Wilderness Lodge lobby has a huge tree, and also offers a sleigh ride. Like Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party, the sleigh ride is a ticketed event and to assure a seat, should be booked well in advance.

At Disney's Polynesian Resort, look for an exotic gingerbread village, complete with volcanoes and palm trees. It's on the second floor of the Ceremonial House. You can buy Christmas cookies at the Kona Island coffee bar.

Disney's Yacht Club Resort lobby will have a miniature train winding its way around a sugar mountain and village. Small gingerbread houses, Christmas stollen and Italian pannettone will be sold in the merchandise stores.

Thanks for the rundown Northie. I think we will be spending more time resort hopping then time in the parks this visit. I can't wait. It will be so fun to see all of the wonderful Christmas decorations.

Me too! We have never been there at Christmas, so I am really excited to see all these decorations (we'll be there Dec. 2-10), and we have never spent much time resort hopping either, but we plan on it this time. And I got tickets for the Yuletide Fantasy Tour...that should be great!

Tried to tivo the Holidays at Walt Disney World special over night last night and goofy tivo only saved the first 30 minutes. I love that special, and wanted to see it again before we went!
