Ginger for ride sickness

My DH feels terrible after some rides (Everest, Mission Space easy side, etc). I heard that ginger can help with this. I'm wary of dramamine because I think even the non-drowsy version would make him tired.

Has anyone found that ginger does or does not help with ride sickness?

What kind do you buy? Pills, chewables, etc? Any specific recommendations?

Thanks.

I have never tried these with a wild theme park ride, but we use ginger for ocean motion, helicopter motion, small planes.

We've tried many varieties - actual ginger pieces held under the tongue, pills (easy to find in New Zealand and England). One of the easiest ways is Reeds ginger chews - this is a candy (be careful with your fillings) that is sold at some health food stores like Whole Foods and at Cost Plus Imports.

I don't guarantee it will work on a ride, but it is worth a try as it does not make you drowsy. And it's better than nothing.

Also - sometimes the sickness is made worse by what your eyes are seeing. So your husband may be better off closing his eyes if he starts to feel sick on a ride rather than keeping them open.

Ginger works great for my wife. She can't take any of the motion sickness meds due to allergies. But she just eats a little sugared ginger (the real stuff, not flavored candy) about 1/2 hour before needing it and she has no sickness. This includes going on airplanes and on the water)

Bonine helps me with rides, but not on an airplane or boat (like a fishing boat). For that I need dramamine, and not the less drowsy(which is the same med as bonine). I used bonine on the Disney cruise and never felt the least bit sick, or drowsy.

I take 2 capsules of ground up ginger (sold at health food stores) every 4-6 hours and I feel fine after going on rides now. I actually went on the tea cups for the first time since I was really young last trip  Spinning rides were always worst for me so I never went on it, but with the ginger it was no problem!! I've found it works great for motion sickness on planes too. I used to take Bonine on planes, and while it didn't make me as tired as Dramamine did, I still always felt a little groggy for hours after. For that reason I never took either in the parks (now much fun can the rides be if you are fighting off sleep??), but with the ginger I can now enjoy all the rides I used to miss or not go on very often!

Ginger works great! Fresh ginger is best, but ginger pills are also great and more convenient.

They covered this on Mythbusters and ginger preformed better than Bonine and Dramamine. Its also free of side effects.

I take ginger root pills. You can get them in the vitamin sectio at Walmart. I take one pill in the morning before leaving for a park and another pill about 6 to 7 hours later. They work great for me.

Does anyone notice any extra...smells from taking ginger? (ie...does it make your breath smell or anything??)
