Ginger Family Getaway: 8/30-9/6 Trip Report DAY 7 & 8 UPDATED 10/2

WOW... I guess in my packing for this road trip, I forgot to celebrate.

DOUBLE DIGIT DANCING!!!

Under 99 days finally...

Hope everyone has a great Memorial Day weekend. Will be back on the 31st. :flower3:

We arrived home yesterday after our 2-day drive back from NJ. I definitely do not want any long drives in my near future. Aubree was very good, and the portable DVD player was a big help. It will be going with us on our WDW trip for sure!

ONE THING WE LEARNED THIS PAST WEEK: Aubree does NOT like elevators at all and screams & cries in them and if she thinks we're approaching one. :scared1: Thank goodness she was fine with the stairwells at our hotels along the way! She also hated the buzzer noise to let us into DH's parents building - same reaction as the elevator.

So... I called and put in a request for a ground floor room at the Polynesian and stated the reason. If it's not available when we go, DH will be carting her up the stairs.

Here's a pic of us in front of the NYC skyline after taking a 90-minute boat tour of Manhattan (yes, her stroller seat is tilting - I didn't have it latched right! OOPS! ). The tour was pretty cool, although it was right around Aubree's naptime and we hadn't eaten lunch yet (although I did try giving her snacks). Wouldn't you know, the captain sounded the boat horn and scared her to death - some screaming and clinging to DH before she went to sleep. She woke up shortly before the tour ended and acted just fine and also did great on the 2 ferries to/from the tour so I think the combination of the horn, naptime and empty tummy had something to do with it. Enjoyed a fun lunch at Fuddrucker's before leaving and all was well...

Will definitely make some decisions about WDW touring based on these experiences!

In other news - I was able to choose our seats on Northwest last night. Very excited... now I just have to wait another week to get the return flight's seats.

Nothing major to update, but I did get our assigned seats for the return flight home last night. I had booked my mom's flight separately, so I had to make sure we were all seated together.

The seats are 2 and 3 to a row, so Barry will have a window seat with Granny next to him on the aisle, then DH on the other aisle, Aubree in the middle and I'll have the window seat.

That's all for now!

I haven't had a chance to read the whole report yet, but I wanted to say Hi and I'll be back to read later.

I found your PTR this week! I have enjoyed reading it! Sounds like you are going to have a great trip! I also have a red-headed DD, only she is 3. And I know where Lapel is, I'm from Anderson!

Hi Janell! Glad to have you as a reader. Aw, I just love little red-headed kids.

I was born in Anderson and we lived there until 6th grade. :)

hi! I found your TR through another TR and just thought I would join in!!! It sounds like you are very prepared for your trip and I love the ADRS!!!! I love all the pics of the things you have bought..your dd will love it (minus elevators)!! Hopefully she will get over her fear after seeing Cindy at the castle that she will not be scared of the elevator up to CRT!!

I'd like to welcome TinkerbellLuvr7 to my PTR. Thanks for joining!

Nothing major to add to my PTR... but we did go to the Indianapolis Zoo this past Saturday, and Aubree was thrilled to see the zoo's mascot, Kiburi. This was her first encounter with a costumed character. So happy it went well! She wasn't scared and kept saying "Hi Lion!" - we didn't get a photo with him, but here's a shot of her yelling at him. We actually ended up right next to him and she didn't seem afraid.

I also decided to sell many of my Vera Pink Petal items on ebay - after seeing my niece's new purse, I fell in love with the Pink Elephants pattern, so I now have a large backpack

and a wristlet

... did I mention I'm a little addicted to Vera stuff? :faint:

and I also just ordered a matching little travel case to take on the trip for Aubree's toys and some snacks - that will be her carry-on. The backpack will serve as my purse & diaper bag for the flights and I'll wear it in the parks. I'm also taking a black rolling carry-on that has a toiletry section; that should hold a change of clothes for both Aubree & I.

Hope everyone is having a good week! :hippie:

YIPPEE! YIPPEE!

I was able to get dinner at 'Ohana for our 1st night (8/30)! Was able to snag a 4:25PM ressie... should work out great since we arrive early that day. Canceled Boma (DH is sad, but oh well!).

Where did the days go?

Aubree will be 2 on July 4th, and we have 65 days until our trip!

We celebrated Aubree's 2nd birthday yesterday - our little firecracker had a great party with lots of family and friends here. Although it was rainy for most of the morning, we still had lots of fun (and food!).

Here are a few pics from the party.

How ladylike!

Great pictures Betsy!
Aubree looks so cute in her b-day outfit!
WOW- I want a cake like that for my birthday next month LOL!

LOL at the aubree dissing!!!!:goodvibes

Happy Birthday Aubree!! Did you guys do any fireworks last night? We went to Hummel Park in Plainfield. Shae did pretty well with them, tho' nervous at first. I just kept saying, "ooooo so pretty.... like we're in DISNEY WORLD!!";)

Happy Birthday Aubree!!!

Just a warning about seat assignments now. Airlines seem to be changing times and flights alot now. You should check weekly to make sure you still have assigned seats and that times, etc are the same. My cousins had the seats unassigned when United changed the time of their flights by a few minutes.....they had to scramble to get seats together the day of the flight.

I checked mine weekly to make sure I was okay. I did have to reassign my seat once.....

Thanks! The cake was really good - next time I'll pick the whipped frosting though. I've heard it's really good. She woke up yesterday and I said, "It's your birthday today!" - she replied, "Where's my cake?" I was cracking up! :rotfl2:

Thanks! We are so sad... we were pooped and stayed home after everyone left from the party. I did watch a few of the neighbors' fireworks from our patio. Aubree's nap was short and late yesterday, so that made her very tired and we kept to her bedtime schedule. I'm hoping she'll like the Disney World fireworks. I prefer those to any others anyway! hehe

The pictures are so cute! Looks like Aubree had a great birthday party!

Thank you! She was much more fun this year. Still getting the hang of opening presents and tends to help herself to other people's food on their plates. :rotfl:

Thanks! I have been checking almost daily. Northwest has already changed our return flight by a few minutes (leaving early... boo hoo!). My mom's reservation is separate, so I want to make sure she's near us too.

I am enjoying your report. We too are staying at the Poly and we are very excited!! I hope you are writing a trip report when you return. I'll be very interested to read it.

I like all of your pics!! Maybe one day, I will learn how to post those myself.
