I'm at a loss what to get my step father for Father's Day. He's an amateur photographer. Has a fancy digital camera and lenses and tripods ( I have no clue what brand or type). We're cruising from NY in October to Canada and I know he's looking forward to taking photos up there.
Is there a case that would make a great gift or some other gadget to take on the road? Any idea would be a help. Thanks!

Another vote for a gift card... If not Amazon.... BH Photo.

Camera cases? Too much variety. Most like small. I like backpack cases to carry everything.

It would depend on your budget, and your knowledge of his needs. Assuming you don't know much about his gear and about what he is lacking, a gift certificate is likely best.
A good piece of software can be a great gift, but you may not know what software he already has, or has interest in.
For example, if he likes photoshop type stuff, this program is on sale for a couple of days:

Even camera bags, the good ones are often $100+
There may be a particular lens he wants, though most decent lenses easily start to cost $500+
Maybe an ND filter would be a good gift, but do you know if he wants one.. what size he would need, etc.

Gift certificate may be best

Thanks everyone! That program may be something he'd like. A backpack sounds good. I've been thinking more. I want to spend about $100 and considering a waterproof bag or accessories for shooting in the rain. Can you steer me in the right direction?

Went to B&H. Saw a Storm Jacket. Is that something useful?

LowePro has an All Weather cover for it's camera bags. It's my preferred bag. The back packs come in very different sizes for how much you want to carry.

A Joby Gorillapod might also be a good idea. They can be really handy on trips. In this case, one of the larger ones to handle the weight.

Perfect! I didn't even think of a tripod. Getting him this. So glad I didn't go with a bag as he bought himself one a couple of weeks ago. :\ Again, I appreciate everyone taking the time to help me out. :flower3:

if he already has plenty of tripods another one may not be the best gift idea! - another vote (5?) for the gift card from B&H, Amazon or Adorama
