Gifts for baptism from godparent?

My friend has aked me to be her daughter's godmother, which I am honored to do. My question is- what is an appropriate gift for me to give? Savings bond? Cash? Some personalized item? I'm at a loss!

for my goddaughters I got them small gold necklaces with a cross on them.

DH and I have been Godparents several times over. What we give is a personalized item AND either cash or a savings bond.

In our family the Godmother also buys the christening gown/outfit.

I opened an Education IRA for my Godson when he was baptized. It was pretty easy to do...I just needed his social security #.

We gave our Godson a personalized cross and a savings bond. For our Goddaughter we bought her baptismal gown and gave her a savings bond.

Depending on how much you wanted to spend I would get a keepsake for the baby and then possibly a savings bond or cash. Something like a gold cross or a children's bible with an inscription from you would be a nice keepsake.

I gave my godson 500.00 in savings bonds and my daughter got from her godfather 1,000 in her college savings fund and 250.00 savings bond and a white gold and diamond earring from her godmother and form ther other godmother she got 100.00 check and a gold necklace with a gold letter "K" on it. From her little godfather (Matt in my sig pictures) she got a nice big kiss..that was the best gift! We always have 3 god parents....if its a girl then 2 females and one male...if its a boy then 2 males and one female. Because I wanted 4 the rev guy said that was ok, especially given the circumstances, Matt was sick with cancer and he was my godson and I wanted him to be a special part of my daughters life while he was still alive.

WE've given the personalized/inscripted Bible, which is nice. My children have also gotten nice crosses, rosaries, etc. Religious gift stores usually have lots of ideas.

My sister got DD a gold charm bracelet with a gold cross. For her first birthday, she added a birthstone, and she plans to add charms for all her "life" events (First Communion, Confirmation, Graduation, Wedding, etc.). That was my favorite gift. My second favorite is an engraved handkerchief from my cousin like this one It's very special to me and I hope it will be to DD too.

We've given the personalized Precious Moments bibles; they come in both Catholic & non-Catholic versions, and the covers come in various pastel colors or white. We also have given a savings bond along with the bible.

I bought the Christening outfit, a Precious Moments Bible and a savings bond for both of my Godchildren. The Godfather bought them crosses

DD and DS share the same godparents (thank God!!) and they both received Disney stock for the baptism. DH and I are godparents for one of their kids and I honestly can't remember what we got him!
