Gifts Bag for Family Looking at Christams Lights

If they have kids maybe some jingle bells so they can ring them when they are at the houses?

Love the postcard idea. Might have to do that w/ my family this yr. There are a lot of houses and even on HGTV the last few yrs there is a show mostly about the houses here in Richmond. Bet they would like the post card thanks. One is even Disney themed. If I remember I will have to take a pict and post it here.

Hey! I grew up in Richmond and my family is still there...where abouts are ya in my home town? Im only a couple of hours away but I sure miss it there...:)

I can't seem to find the info now though.

Basically it was a basket (I would maybe use a Christmas colored box or tote that they could store the stuff in after Christmas) that held all the things you needed for a "Jingle Jaunt"

I don't remember exactly what was in, but here is what I think it had.

jingle bell bracelets or jingle bells on a string of some sort.
Pj's
blanket
popcorn
hot chocolate
thermos mugs
Christmas CD
disposable camera
candy canes
Santa hats

I am sure you could just think of whatever your family might like to have with them if they were to go on this ride.

I am thinking of doing one for my girls as a themed basket. I don't have any type of advent calendar for this year, so I thought maybe instead I would do a weekly basket. It would also get us to spend some time together.

If you want to take the card idea a step further you could order a custom preprinted card.. like the Santa ones thanking the decorators for "britening" your holiday. They could place these cards in the homes mailboxes with no fuss at all. :) It could be either a small business size card, you could get 1000 of them pretty cheap with online check/business card printing companies. then you could divide them up between all your baskets.
I like the idea of the music, cookies, hot cocoa mix and travel mugs for each family member. Cute idea! Looking at lights is one of my families favorite things to do each year.

All of your great ideas have gotten me really excited about making my baskets. I am ready for the christmas lights now!!!!

Just remember that you can't put the letter in the mail box. It's considered federal property.If you don't want to mail them I have seen some w/ donation boxes or their own special mail box (for letters to santa). Or maybe you could put it some where they would find it (like the porch)

I like the santa hat idea. Should have thought of that.

Cute, Cute Idea

Love the idea about the map & the gas card
I was going to say a lil blanket because you can always find those on sale during the holiday season

Ya'll have Great ideas....

lol.. you sound like my grandmother.. she was a postal employee for 30 years! :lmao: I always had the same thought process too but living in a more rural country like area the postal service seems to turn a blind eye to people placing things in the mailbox. :goodvibes I usually just place things on the outside of the box like a small card wedged in the flag holder area.

Just didn't want any one getting in trouble :rolleyes1 You could always put stamps on them and a cute Christmas pen so they could address it at each house?
Not sure if this was suggested but maybe a map or listings (by areas) of houses that decorate. I know here there is always a listing in the paper as well as a websight.

Does anyone have a cute note or saying that you could attach with this gift. I love all the ideas, I'm just drawing a blank on a catchy note to attach?????:santa: :santa:

Fantastic Idea - I am going to use it as well if you don't mind. How about an auto air freshner in a Christmasy scent?

In a basket or fun container place microwave popcorn, hot cocoa mix, car mugs (to prevent spills),inexpensive Christmas CDs, Jingle bells, and a city map. You could also add fleece blankets for car use later. Include the following instructions.

"Warm up the car, get it ready to go. Pop the corn, heat up the cocoa and pray for snow. Ring the bells, wake up the kids, grab a blankie for all and off to the show".

Hope this helps.

You could make printouts of the words to some of the popular but lesser known christmas songs, Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer etc
Get Santa Hats from the dollar store and use glitter pens to personalize them

That is an awesome idea!! Love it, even words for the ones you "think" you know would be good.

santa:

My husband started a company last year installing Christmas lights :santa: and we take the kids to look at all of his "jobs".

I love this!

I'm dragging this back up because it was such a hit last year. I'm going to do it this year for the kids teachers. Big Lots has blankets this week for $5. I think mine are going to include:

-blanket
-hot chocolate mix (I'm going to try & get a good one at World Market), marshmallows & peppermint sticks for stirring
-Christmas carol CD

I think, with a little bargain-hunting, I can do each for $15 apiece.

Lot's of great ideas!

How about something to decorate the out side of the car? I've seen holiday wreaths and other cute things decorating the outside of cars.

I did this last year, after reading about it here. I loved the idea and so did everyone we gave them to. (We gave them to tons of families in the neighborhood. I had broken my leg earlier in the year and so many people made us meals, so I did this gift bag as a thanks from my family).

I included:
* a homemade Christmas CD w/ a homemade cover
* those paper glasses that make the lights look funky (like 3d glasses)
* paper hot cups w/lids and hot chocolate packets
* packets of marshmallows
* hershey kisses
* candy canes
* holiday tatoos
(I enclosed a thank you note, but a Christmas card would be good)

(And, even if you don't give a blanket with the bag, you can still use the poems that say, Grab a blanket).

Fun!!!

Bumping this back up again. I found my fleece throws at Big Lots for $5 again this year & the Target Dollar Spot has Grinch reusable bags & Christmas music CDs for $1 so I grabbed those as well. I'll be adding some hot chocolate mix, candy canes & some cookies.

These were a HUGE hit last year. I'm not sure who all I will give them to this year but at the least the kids teachers & a friend who always invites us to their house for a holiday party.
