My son is 19, in college, and works part-time. He saves some of each pay but has been enjoying having some spending money and pretty much buys himself whatever he wants. As a result he doesn't have many "wants" and despite repeated requests has not given me a single suggestion on a "big" Christmas gift. He has recently started going to the gym so we did get him a gym membership, and I've picked up a couple of other little things but nothing extravagant. Stockings usually have candy, gift cards, toiletries, gloves, etc.
What cool gifts are you buying for the young men on your shopping list?

Well, my son (20--almost 21) is going to Italy, so that's mainly his gift. He did ask for a crock pot this year as he wants to try some recipes rather than keep eating out. Basically, I buy him clothing and I've done pretty well with that over the years. Sorry...guys are hard to buy for in my opinion.

Maybe his not requesting a "big"" present means he is fully grown up. We didn't do 'big' but once I was making my own money I stopped asking for anything.

Does he park in a garage? We got our DS the Frost Guard from QVC last year he loves it. Gloves boys always lose gloves. Maybe a new duffle bag for the gym.

Bullets wouldn't fly in our house (pun intended). We are Canadian, no guns for us.
A new gym bag is a great suggestion, I think he's just using his backpack. I'm thinking about upgrading his phone for him as his phone is 2.5 years old and the screen is cracked. He's got a great plan though so I don't necessarily want to mess with that.

Not really a "big" gift but since you mentioned going to the gym, if he doesn't have them already, look into wireless/Bluetooth ear buds. They are a MUST for any gym. Couple that with am iTunes card (if he does iTunes) or maybe a subscription to Pandora (for music to listen to while at the gym and using the new Bluetooth headset).

Redblacks tickets.

Does he have any special interests or hobbies? If so, you could get him a monthly subscription like Loot Crate, Lucky Tackle Box, Dollar Beard/Shave Club, etc. Those have gone over very well with the guys in my family.

This is a great idea!

I was also going to suggest giftcards for videogames, if he plays.

I have vetoed any video game paraphernalia as he spends entirely too much time playing video games and I told him not to bother put any of that on his list. It is really a bone of contention with me. That's why I needed some other suggestions. Getting a lot of good ideas here!

but but but if that is really what he wants....... He's a college kid with a part time job. Are his grades good? If his grades are good, he goes to work etc. why does it matter that he likes video games?
My DS is 26 and every year for his B-Day I get him Call of Duty, he happily spends hours playing on his X-box. He does what he is supposed to do, I don't care how he chooses to spend his free time.
I can't help with present ideas, everything on my DS's wish list was either gun/ammo or home brewing related
However, I did get flannel lounge pants and a favorite sports team hoodie

I have a 22 year old son. Let's see, from memory, here's what we're getting him: 2 sweaters, two shirts, cologne, photography equipment, easel and paints, a mandolin (he doesn't play, but mentioned he'd like to learn), an animal encyclopedia that he'd mentioned, pj bottoms/tshirt/slippers, a couple of BlueRays, a video game...a couple of other things that I can't remember.

His grades are not good. He skated through high school with almost zero effort and everything is done at the last minute or is handed in late. He had a wake up call a couple of months ago, after his first college midterms when he missed a midterm and handed in several assignments late. He is very, very lucky to be in the program he is in and to have instructors who allowed him to make up the test/assignments. He does not prioritize well, largely due to his preference to play video games. Luckily he is in a certification program and has been doing a placement weekly for the past two months so he has gotten an opportunity to actually do the job that he will qualify for when he graduates. He likes the job and can see that it will be a good career, so he has been much more motivated with keeping up with the school work.

Things for his car? Jumper cables, an emergency kit, a car wash kit, nice floor mats
A subscription to Sports Illustrated.
workout clothes
tools/gadgets (my 19 year old daughter works in the theater on the crew, and asked for a multi tool for her birthday)
sports equipment (skis, skateboards)
tickets to a sporting event or concert
pay for him to participate in something like Tough Mudder, a local 5k race, etc.

What about a FitBit? Something to keep track of his progress in the gym!

What about movies?

I also second gift cards for things like iTunes, gas, etc. Even though our gas prices are better, it still costs money!! lol

Does he like comedy shows and the like? Depending what area of town, both Centrepointe and Shenkmans have a few comedy acts coming in the next couple of months, so maybe tickets to see a live act or a concert? (I'm taking my BF to see Brent Butt!!)

Lots of good ideas already listed.

Does he have some favorite foods that you could put in a gift basket? Food speaks to kids this age, at least from my experience with my 3 teens. One of my boys LOVES cashews, so every Hanukkah he gets a massive jug of cashews. Maybe include some gift cards to area restaurants he might enjoy.

You mentioned video games, does he play board games also? My gamer still loves board games, but less common ones such as Ticket to Ride and Settlers of Catan (I've also heard Pandemic is very good and we'll probably get that in the future). Both of those can be found at most Targets these days.

Is he into any shows? My whole family love The Walking Dead, so themed items from his favorite show might be fun.

How about tickets to a gaming convention such as Pax?

Oooh, playing on Dawnlight's post... a ticket to the local ComicCon in May, perhaps?
