Im having a hard time on what to buy my Dad this year. And could use some help on ideas. He has a December birthday also so double gifts needed. He is late 60s.

He doesn’t live nearby so it has to shipped by me or shipped directly. He has a lot of “stuff” so I tend to do things like restaurant gift cards in the past but now he is going through some medical treatments and can’t leave the house much since he’s often not feeling up to it. I’ve done Omaha steaks and Edible Arrangements and Mrs Fields cookies in the past. Any ideas (it doesn’t have to be food)? Trying to stay in the $100 range for each gift.

I struggle with my own dad, who is the same age. We do a lot of gift cards as well. Are you opposed to practical items? My dad Loves going to estate sales and their house is full of "stuff" and I don't like to add more to their collection :) So this year he is getting some bulk hearing aid batteries for starters. I'm not sure what else, but likely I'll add a gift card to it. I figure by buying his batteries, I'm freeing up money for him to spend at estate sales!

Does he like books or movies? Some well-chosen reading material or DVDs might be welcome to someone who can rarely leave the house.

A year of Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon (or Cbs.com's sub b/c he might like the new Star Trek and access to their older shows)
A year of Internet Radio (Sirius?)
A year of Audible (for audio books)
A magazine subscription - ESPN, Sports Illustrated, Newsweek, Time, TV Guide, etc
A Fruit of the Month small subscription for 3-6 months
A Grubhub gift card (to bring restaurants to him)
A photo blanket - he may like both the warmth and memories this could give

I'll keep thinking:)...

Don’t laugh, but QVC has lots of great food ideas that we (dh is in his 6o’s) would love to have but never buy ourselves. Dh has just started cooking and loves copper cookware, so that is what I got him this year.

Do you mean where to order the crab cakes from? G&M, Greenmount Station
They are both local restaurants that will ship them. Many people swear by G & M but I prefer Greenmount’s.

Yes, to order crabcakes. After checking shipping costs, we went with Chesapeak Bay. I remember them being advertised on QVC with pretty good reviews.

I bought m 80 year old dad an Amazon Echo for his birthday. He loves it. He is connected to my Amazon Prime account. He loves being able to listen to whatever genre of music he wants. Yesterday he figured out how to call me through it.

We’re getting my dad some nice steaks for Christmas this year, he doesn’t need any stuff either. Maybe a gift card to the grocery store, as he lives 40 mIn away from the next town.

I bought my dad ice cream for Father's Day this year -- we'd received it for Christmas last year and loved it! We got it from The Comfy Cow on goldbely, but they're already sold out for Christmas now. But there are a lot of other places with ice cream.

My dad also loves cookies and pretzels. I found a place for gourmet pretzels with mustards and sent that one year, and another year I made a bunch of cookies that my grandmother (his mom) used to make -- he loved that as well.

Another hit was crumb cake (we used to get it at a bakery down the shore in NJ). Another goldbely (Nene's Treats).

Thank you guys for mentioning goldbely. I think I am going to order something for my IL's from there.

The year of Netflix is a good idea. My mother was staying at my house and she went crazy for Netflix.

That will kill them......LOL :) I LOVE Mackinaw island fudge. I was thinking of sending my parents Pasties from the Mackinaw island pasty company.

They love sweets. They live in Texas and everytime they come for a visit they talk about going to Mackinaw Island. It is about a 6 hour drive from our house. His girlfriend is obsessed with the movie Somewhere in Time that was filmed at The Grand hotel on Mackinaw Island.
